Channeling the Southwest

Truth may be more like a howling coyote?
Sometimes it just stares you down whether you want to hear the noise or not.
Or maybe truth is something you have to stop to hear, because how many of us would ignore the coyote if we could. Or not even recognize the coyote.
Anyhow, before I confuse you anymore than I have already confused myself...
I had a lot of fun making this page because I love the colors, those giant saguaro cacti and and the animals.  The giant saguaro cactus was made with a homemade stencil that I used to make a gelli printed page. I love how it came out. I first printed a page with orange and pink paint. Then I laid the negative cactus  image on the plate, and  brayered the turquoise ink over this negative image and the rest of the plate. I lifted the negative cactus image, and laid down my already once printed paper. Voila.  I got this cool cactus image.
I am pretty impressed with myself for doing that!
Then I stamped some images onto the page. The long sun beams and the little lizard were painted.  I  like to use the stamp as the base image and add to that, especially when I am making a lot of pages at once and don't want to be too fussy drawing something out.
I painted the cacti spines or flowers, which ever you want them to be, and I die cut the coyote (Sizzix) and painted him with some copper SILKS. Finally I added the die cut sun.
This is my way to travel right now, though I would love to be heading out someplace really soon.
Once I can manage to get over this speed bump called kidney dialysis for my husband...or maybe sooner if I head out without him. If I can manage something...will just see where life rolls to I guess.
Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!

Really terrific, Erika!
Love your pink cactus with its little flowers, your coyote (who I think is only playing at howling as he looks very sweet and friendly) and your cute smiling lizard. I think this is one of your best paintings.

Channeling the Southwest I see. Great cactus stencil. We are lucky to have friends who live just north of Santa Fe so we can visit. Hope husband is doing well and a good prognosis for change is on the horizon. See you soon. xox
