Company for Dinner

It is April 2- so time for a chance to take a second look on the second of the month.
Stop by    Elizabeth's blog-Altered Book Lover    to check out all the other second looks.

I have a few views from one April evening in 2012.
I had company for dinner that evening.
It was dusk so the photo have a little blue tint because I didn't turn my flash on.

This guest really liked the sugar water in the hummingbird feeder. I think he (or she)  really came for dessert.
He didn't want to leave either. Even with my dog barking up a storm inside. And he knew I was standing at the door.
Finally I opened the door just about an inch (I didn't want to let the dog out as our dog at the time really liked to tree bears, and I was afraid the bear would turn around and claw him causing me hundred of dollars in vet bills). Then I yelled out at the bear.  He grunted and groaned and went behind the fence, where he didn't think I could see him. I think he was waiting for us to disappear so he could go finish his sugar drink.
I knew he was there though.
When we didn't move Mr. Bear finally went grumbling and rambling off into the woods. After a bit I got brave and went out and brought all the feeders in.
I get bears here occasionally so that didn't surprise me. But what did surprise me was how brave this guy was to stay so long. I bet I watched him 10 minutes before he got scared  off.
And I had just arrived home that evening with the dog as we had been out running errands or something, and it was a good thing we came up through the basement and we didn't walk around to the back door, because then we would have come face to face with Mr. Bear with no door between us.
The adventures of living in a wooded rural area never end.
Have a great weekend everyone! And thanks for stopping by.

What an encounter, fancy having a sweet toothed bear in your garden! Love the photos, but glad you didn't let the dog out! We see foxes and deer and occasionally boars here, but no bears! Hope the rest of the weekend is quieter. Hugs, Valerie

Wow! A bit scary but what a privilege to see one so close from a safe vantage point! He looked so innocent until he attacked that feeder! Do you leave your feeders out now? Hope you are enjoying your weekend! Hugs, Chrisx

This is such a fun post. I loved seeing the bears. I confess, I live in a city and a bear would be shot (tranquilized) before it ever reached my home. However, I remember once when I was on a consulting job for a mining company, I was in Wyoming, staying in an on-site trailer. I had been warned there were bears around, but didn't think much about it. One morning I woke to a loud noise to discover a bear rummaging through the trash can outside. Thankfully there was no food in the can, so s/he quickly gave up and went off looking for unsuspecting campers or better trash cans in the area.

Since I'm so new to your blog, I am so glad you posted this. I am in love with this story of the sugar bear that refused to leave.

Thanks for using this post as your second look on the 2nd.

My internet friend Jeanie created a post I think you will like. I told her I was going to send this to you, so here it is:

Now you can compare how maple syrup is made in NH with that made in MA.

ooh that's scary! Even the geese scare me because one chased my husband away during nesting season.

Oh my gosh! That would be quite a site out the window. At least he/she was a distance from the house. We had one look in the cabin window when I was fishing in Canada. Yikes!!

We don't normally get bears here but I hear they did the year before we moved in. He hung around the area a few weeks in the summer until the conservation department trapped and relocated him further south to his normal range. I was glad to hear they relocated him instead of shooting him. You have some great photos of him though.

I am so glad to live in a forest quater without any bears ... I would have been frightened to death!
Happy Sunday!
