Cows, Houses and the Ocean

Happy Sunday everyone. Its a sunny but very crisp morning here in New Hampshire.Feels like fall and that is wonderful after all the summer heat. Half way through my 4 day weekend! I love knowing I have 2 days left to my weekend. Especially since my first days were busy and I was out and about and now I have 2 days to putter around at home.  And first plans today are to go play with some paints and markers. :)

I think this lady is beautiful. Friday my daughter and I were both off from work and we decided to take a road trip we'd been talking about all summer. We went to Vermont to visit the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller mansion and then the Billings Farm Museum which is right across the street.
The farm museum is actually  a working cheese farm, and it was the farm originally attached to the house. The house is now part of the US's National Park Service and the farm is run as a museum.
Although a big house, it was actually quite a lovely place. Beautiful but not ostentatious. What I did not know before we went that the original house was in the family of  George Perkins Marsh who is one of the founding father's of American ecology.
The garden wasn't huge but I thought it was beautiful. I think I now want a little formal garden at my house.

Water in the garden fountain.

This house had a huge Victorian porch and these wonderful vines growing along the edges.
 And look at the view.
But I must say the cows were my favorite.
Almost time for afternoon milking. They told us these Guernsey cows give about  6 gallons of milk a day.

And they had a few sheep too.

I could show you a lot more photos but I'll save that for another day. Time for me to get off the couch and go be a little productive. :)
Hope its a great rest to your weekend.

Hi Erika! Your trip took you to a wonderful place. Cows are really beautiful creatures, I love watching them, too. It is somehow very calming to watch them and other animals. It#s good to have a few days to catch your breath after the bus week at school, so enjoy your long weekend, and thanks for sharing the photos. Hugs, Valerie

I really enjoyed the formal garden and the house looked decently impressive. But it was the cows I felt sorry for. Seems they are tethered to something no matter where they go. It's like living in a prison that allows you to be in sunlight and outdoors part of the day.

Looks like you had a lot of fun, though.

Oh this brings back some memories! I grew up in a cottage with a farm at one side and another over the road! I was lucky enough go be able to go to both and 'help'! The garden looks fantastic too! Hugs, Chrisx
