Home

Hi everyone.  I'm home from a little 4 day jaunt out to the Finger Lakes in the middle of New York state.

I found this map on the internet to show you the area in green where the Finger Lakes are located. It's a big area, and we spent most of our time  that red triangular looking loop I added to the image . :)
They are called the Finger Lakes because they are long glacial scoured out lakes that look like fingers.
We visited only Seneca lake and Keuka Lake, so as you can see there is a lot we didn't explore.
It was a beautiful area. We kept busy by visiting a few museums, taking a gorgeous gorge hike, doing some wine, beer and other alcoholic tastings, as well as a few other fun things. I have lots to show you in the near future once all my photos get unload and sorted.
But today I want to show you some art I had made before I left to link up to both Jo's fab poetry in motion  challenge at Art Journal Journey and also the use your scraps challenge over at Tag Tuesday.
First my silly poetry in motion piece based on a poem by Edward lear. He was certainly known for his fun and often nonsense poetry.
I chose this poem because I had a this strange urge to try drawing some parrots. Don't ask me where that idea came from, but I will say, I was pleased with the way they came out. I actually based my drawing more on scarlet macaws which are beautiful birds who pair for life.
Here's an internet photo (from Southwick Zoo) of what they really look like.

And my tag is really an assortment of pieces that I put together. It's made with some scraps off my work table which include  some tape, a TH found relative, some stamped words and a metal frame, as well as a lot of painting and doodling.
That's all for me this post.
Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and the new week promises to be a good one.

Love your colorful parrots. Edward Lear is a favorite of mine. Didn't know that macaws mate for life. Knew they lived a long time. Your tag goes along with your page as it showcases the person in grey. Looking forward to hearing about your trip to the Finger Lakes. Enjoy the sunshine.

Your two parrots art is such fun, and they do look very close. Nice of you to give them some carrots to go with the poem.
What a great tag, everything goes so well to make the design. I always think the term "found relatives" is very amusing.

Sounds like you crammed quite a lot into your 4 days Erika.
Thanks for showing the maps - I can see why the lakes are called that - what a lot there are too.
Your parrots are beautiful and just perfect for that quirky poem.
Sorry (once again) for missing your post lately - I hope all is well with you .. Gill xx

I love your art and I'll look forward to your posts. We spent some time in Geneva en route to MA so in the winter, though no snow this year! I remember doing posts on it this year and last. Nice territory. I'll be anxious to see what you saw!

Trying to play catch up here. Sorry I'm so late visiting. I always wondered about the finger lakes, and now I know. Glad you had a better weekend than I.

Those parrots are fabulous, simply gorgeous. They are well drawn and very colorful, too.

Of course, I really, really, really like the tag made with scraps. It's incredible.

What a happy colourful post with your travels, fab page and cheery tag! I'm so pleased you had a wonderful weekend away on your travel adventures and the Finger Lakes look so interesting, can't wait to see more 😁. Edward Lear's lymericks are guaranteed to make me smile and I love the one you choose about the parrots for Art Journal Journey, it's so much fun! You illustrated it perfectly - the macaws that you painted are awesome, they look so full of character and the colours are beautiful, loving the carrots too ... lol 😁. Thanks for the smiles and wishing you a great new week! J 😊
p.s. thanks so much for your lovely comments on my blog! J x
