Saturday Art

Hi everyone. Happy weekend to you. I'm out tomorrow to spend Mother's Day with my daughter, so I thought today I would share another art journal page for Art Journal Journey. This month (as you probably know) Neet is hosting and her theme is Things with Wings.

This is not the most complicated page I've ever made but it's full of spring joy. My art time has been limited lately since I've been gardening when it isn't raining and also trying to do a big closet clean and clothes change over when it has been raining. Both projects are coming along, but at least when it comes to closet cleaning,  I'd just assume go make some art than do that. 😉 I hope maybe next week I can finish the closet, and if you garden you know that job is never done until winter returns. And I'm not in any rush for winter, that's for sure.

The background of my page is some torn pieces of tissue paper. I  loved the color, and I wanted to keep my page bright. The images are a combination of some from an Art By Marlene punch out booklet and also some from 49 and Market. I arranged them to create  a lush garden scene. And I added the dragonfly, bee and even (although she doesn't have wings) a garden snail.

And speaking of wings, this spring I have had an amazing assortment of birds at my feeders. Definitely more than I remember seeing in the past several years. Some of you might have seen my photos in Friday's/yesterday's post. I hope they don't  bore you, because later yesterday I had another visitor to my feeder.   I haven't seen a rose breasted grosbeak in several years.

I also happened to glance out the window when both Mrs. Oriole and the grosbeak happened to be on the feeder pole. And yes, Mrs. Oriole does look like a robin in this view.

But you can see in this view she's not a robin. .

The crazy bent top of the seed tube feeder is thanks to the bear incident that happened back in March. I was able to straighten the bar to hold the seed tube, but I need the hubby to use his strength (which is way more than mine) and a vise to straighten out the top.

My daughter says I have become an old lady always watching the birds, but although I'm no bird expert, I've been watching the birds since we first bought our house 36 years ago. Hee-hee, maybe I've always just been an old soul based on that definition. 😏

Have a wonderful rest of your weekend, and for those who don't visit tomorrow, have a wonderful Mother's Day if that applies to you.

  2. Hello, Erika: Keep on watching those birds, and phooey to your daughter! By her definition I have been an old man since I was eight years old. I was just reading a report from Cornell University on the value of citizen science in their efforts to plot bird populations via platforms such as eBird. It all starts with watching them. And it’s becalming and therapeutic too. Have a great weekend of bird watching - David

  8. Perhaps you have had an amazing assortment of birds at your feeders because winter was too difficult for the birds to find their own seeds. I bet they are VERY grateful to you!

  9. Honey knows all the birds and loves to watch them. Me, I know the mockingbird, the barred owl and the morning dove and that's about it. We have purple martins this year in spades so I'm learning to spot them in the air. They will stay down here until it gets too warm for them, then they will be visiting you, lol. The scribble roses on your page look very familiar, think I have stamps like those. I agree, that tissue color is so pretty for a sky. Happy Mother's Day! xoxo

  10. I remember when we first bought this bungalow that someone who had lived there previously said they had a friend who had counted 30 different birds in the garden. Now I don't have much knowledge about birds but after about about ten I never saw any different ones. I love your oriole, so colourful.
i also love your page in your journal and I agree the torn tissue does make for a bright page. The little bee is cute with that face and those big eyes, he certainly made me smile and your dragonfly is very colourful. Lots of lovely flowers and that snail almost got missed by me but now I see him his face is kinda cute too.
Thanks for joining us again with this super page Erika and enjoy your day tomorrow, hope you get spoiled by your daughter on your special day.
    Hugs, Neet xx

  11. This page is so full of spring vibes! The combination of tissue paper, punch-out images, and a lush garden scene is just perfect for Neet’s theme of "Things with Wings." I love the addition of the dragonfly, bee, and snail—it really feels like a little snapshot of nature. It’s funny how gardening can sometimes take over art time, but it’s nice you’re still finding ways to be creative. And those bird sightings! A rose-breasted grosbeak and an oriole? That’s incredible. Watching birds is such a peaceful hobby—definitely not something only "old souls" do. Wishing you a wonderful Mother’s Day.

Your observations at the bird feeder are so lovely.
I don't think it's a matter of age, but rather a matter of love for nature!
