Hi everyone. Happy Thursday to you. Here at my house we're going back into the heat and humidity. The last couple of days have been so lovely. I chose today's page to link up to Halle's Botanical challenge at Art Journal Journey because it has a big hot sun on it that represents today's weather. 😏
Acorns are botanicals, and something different for Halle's challenge. I also figured I'd add a few plants too.
I had trouble figuring where to go with this page. I started by painting it that fun bright pink, and then I added the bright yellow flowered paper scraps and some thin pink and yellow washi tape. Hmmm. What to do next? I decided to add the squirrel which was printed on some tissue paper. I colored him in. From there I added the acorn stickers and some plant stickers too. I still had a big gap of space that didn't look right, so eventually the idea of adding the sun came to me.
The sun is actually an old cardboard coaster I'd saved. I painted it yellow, stamped the circular image to the center, distressed it a bit with brown paint, and then added some sparkles to it. For some reason, the sun made this page for me, even if it doesn't quite give the page perfect balance.
I also have a tag for Tag Along and ATC's challenge blog. This month the theme is Anything Goes or In The Garden, and gardens is what my tag for today is all about.
My tag is made by stamping some garden images and over drawing them with colored markers. The stamps I used are a couple of old sets from Paper Artsy. The dragonfly is from Hero Arts. The background is a mix of grey, light blue and light green distress inks. I'm not sure who the quote is from, but I think it is from an old and now defunct company called Flourishes.
And what is an ATC? A couple of you said you had no idea what an ATC is when commenting on my last post, and since I was remiss explaining it 😞, let me do that now. ATC stands for an Artist Trading Card, which is basically a standard sized playing card (2.5x3.5 inches in size or if you prefer metric 6.3 x 8.9 cm in size) that are made into mini-art pieces. They are great for swaps because you can easily mail these little mini pieces of art.
Of course those who make ATC's already know that. 😏
Thanks for stopping by my blog, and have a super rest of your day.
I am very glad you added the squirrel, and coloured him in, then added the acorns. I have never seen a squirrel, but he strikes me as one of the cutest little animals in any country. He reminds me a little bit of the Ringtail Possum
ReplyDeleteAnd now I know what an ATC is!
ReplyDelete...stay cool and well, it's a hot one here today.
ReplyDeleteBoth your page and tag are so Summery. The sun with that hot pink background and the tag a milder, less humid day. Stay cool - CJ
ReplyDeleteFun page and tag! Heat wave in Toronto after a balmy week -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteOh, I love your Squirrel-page!
ReplyDeleteHere neither hot nor Peanut! I haven´t seen "my" Squirrel in weeks...
Oh, and wishes I have a lot! Last time I made a wish on a dandelion... 3 days later I got the new train-project (last year).
To wishes, hugs
It's rainy and cloudy over here...I wish we had some sunshine. The page looks very pretty, but I like that tag more!
ReplyDeleteGood morning I always enjoy viewing your art-Loving your tag especially
ReplyDeleteWe got one day with a break in the extreme heat-going forward another week of heat warnings ugh and then rain usually August is the hottest here in the ozarks hoping not this year.
take care in this heat
I enjoyed your squirrel page very much. Every time I see a squirrel I'm reminded of my ADHD. :) We are stuck in a hot, humid and rainy pattern here. Yesterday morning it was so humid all the windows of the house were covered with condensation...couldn't even see outside.
ReplyDeleteBoth your page and the ATC are lovely. I like everything with botanicals, and of course acorns count. I don't envy you the heat and humidity. We're having a rather mellow summer and chilly mornings and evenings and pleasant daytime temperatures. Very unusual for this time of year, but I love it. Hugs to you - Carola
ReplyDeleteJust love the colors on the top one. I haven't done an ATC in ages!
ReplyDeleteI like your page and your tag.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the remainder of Thursday and have a good end of the week.
All the best Jan
Oh, your journal page looks so cute!
ReplyDeleteI love it with the squirrel!
Your day turned out so beautiful, too. Great.
Have a happy friday-hugs Elke

You really persevered through those what-next points, Erika, kudos to you! (I've been struggling with my A6-sized journal, and so many pages are just backgrounds that I have no idea how to proceed with. Maybe one day...) That squirrel in your journal must really love the hot day, lol!! Love the tag too--the distressed look is just wonderful. Hope you have a lovely weekend! Anita xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Erika.

Lovely classic looking tag and I do like your page very much. Great design balance. The squirrel is put amongst the acorns perfectly. We're beginning that heat today, saw on the weather it's moving south, so that must be it. We've supposed to get like almost a week of 100+ temps, so I am definitely happy to sleep during the day. Hoping we get a break afterwards (and not in the form of a tropical storm). But who am I kidding, I might like it if it's a good breeze, ugh! LOL xox
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun page for Halle's theme at AJJ. I think the squirrel and acorns are adorable. Love the sun that reminds me of a sunflower. That's a great tag, too.
ReplyDeleteFailed to Publish is here again.
Your page is great, Erika, for Halle's challenge at Art Journal Journey. But I am in love with your tag!
