Hi everyone. Happy middle of the week to you. It's been a sizzler at my house so far this week, which helped inspire this journal page for Chris' Hot August (Nights and Days) over at Art Journal Journey.
This might look like a card, but it's actually a page from my summer journal which I have been making on some colored cardstock. I started by using a Paper Artsy Stencil and some yellow paint to make the sun. When that dried I used a very old Lynne Perrella stamp. I stamped it with black Verafine Clair, and then I used a white pen to outline parts of it. I also used a red Sharpie to color in some of the flames along the top. I used the same Sharpie to add some dotted lines to some of the yellow rays. Then I added some red star metallic paper trim and finished by adding a few red peppermint looking pieces of confetti.
I think the only things really loving this week's heat are my plants, even though some of them are screaming for a good soaking rain.
It's hard to get a photo of a gazing ball and not get yourself in the photo. 😏
I water the pots on my deck daily so they are looking great. Some are annuals I planted and some of these are house plants I bring out for the summer.
That's all for me. Enjoy your day!
Summer seems to roll in! Great page (I get complaints about the "heat"!) have a great day, jump in the lake? Big hugs
ReplyDeleteThat’s a whole new technique for taking a selfie! All the best - David

ReplyDeleteWonderful calendar page, Erika!
ReplyDeleteI love your summer colors!
Your flowers are fantastic!
Loving how those bright colors really pop on your green background! It certainly has been a hot...for us, humid summer this time around! Your garden is looking so pretty!
ReplyDeleteLovely page and stunning flower shots
ReplyDeleteDear Erika, when I hear “Hot Stuff” I instantly think of the disco song by Donna Summer – and now I’ve got the tune stuck in my head 🎶💃 (is it just me?). Your summer journal page turned out beautifully – and so did your gazing ball selfie 😉 (I often take those shots in my own garden globes on purpose, too). The flowers you’re showing are gorgeous 🌸 – and clearly well-watered to withstand the heat. I hope you’re coping with it just as well!

ReplyDeleteThe flowers in your garden are so beautiful!

Hi Erika, your flowers are absolutely stunning! And yes, it’s been a scorcher here the past few days, too. I love your amazing art journal page. The title ‘Hot Stuff’ reminds me of the Donner Summer song, which I’ll be singing all day! And I love the color green you used and I especially like how your page perfectly captures the hot temps. Thanks so much for visiting my blog - big hugs! Sharon
ReplyDeleteWe too need rain in the worst way. Everywhere is dry and parched with grass crinkly beneath the feet. We are still permitted to water plants with a watering can, but if water levels get much lower I am sure that will change. We do everything we can to conserve water in the house, but we have done for years. Your flowers look gorgeous. All the best - David
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun page you made (but me thinks the peppermints may be a subliminal cry for Xmas weather! heehee).
ReplyDeleteYes, your plants are definitely loving the heat AND do need some xtra watering, ask me how I know, lol. Aren't you glad you don't have an entire season of that heat? Add in high humidity and you are begging for the winter you hate. (Happens to me every dang year.) Right now, I feel like we are doing good down here. It's still breaking below 90F by morning sunrise (sometimes all the way down to 83F!), but I'll be singing a different tune if/when it doesn't, UGH! xoxo
Great page, Erika! I love flowers too (and birds).

Your reflection ball in the garden is fabulous and "I can see you". Love the top lily and that alone, as a photo, could be the page for your entry into Chris' journal challenge this month, - it looks on fire.
ReplyDeleteYour journal page is also on fire with the rays of the sun and work perfectly for the challenge at AJJ. Another great entry.
Hugs, Neet xx
(sorry I have not been very well, am playing catch up)
I love those rays on your page Erika and those words!!!! Brilliant entry for 'Hot Summer'. Your garden looks like the most amazing place to be. Hugs, Chris
