Call of the Wild

Hi everyone. I hope you're having a good week so far. Mine has been busy but definitely not as busy as the last couple of weeks since I am done working at the lake. 😏

Today I have a page for Mia's Background challenge at Art Journal Journey. This page is from my summer journal. In that journal all my pages are made from  colored cardstock. That's what I started with for this page, and you can see the original brought green color along the edges of my page.

I stamped the large background, which included the mountain, the ground and the 3 trees on the left which are all on one large rubber stamp. I used a bit of watercolor to lightly change the background color. (Some blue in the sky, some brown for the mountain and some green for the ground layers) I didn't want to actually color in those areas; if I had I would have used markers. I just wanted to give them a  light wash of color. Then I stamped the tops of the trees on the bottom right just to give the view a little more depth. To highlight the trees, I used  Sharpies on them. Then I took a couple of old images from some background making sets (1 from Cornish Heritage Farms and 1 from Stampscapes), stamped them on white paper, fussy cut  and added them. I finished my page by framing the edges with some washi tape and stamping the quote.

Let me finish off this post with a few more photos from Bedrock Gardens, my local botanical garden that I visited one day last week. There were so many bumblebees on flowers that day, which you might notice in many of these photos.

Have a great rest of your day.

  2. I love your art piece--it's an Alaska vibe for me :-)

Such gorgeous flowers! I'm particularly smitten with the white flower with the fringey petals.

  3. The photos from Bedrock Botanical Gardens show such a wide range of plants, flowers, colours and shapes, I wonder who designed the gardens in the first place. They are splendid.

  10. Just saw your comment on the plastic. I "THINK" it held glue sticks. I just remember keeping it because I liked the shape.

  12. Your journal page reminds me of the scenery at the Weirs. Looks like the wild were called to the flowers at the botanical garden. Predicted rainy day turned sunny. Hope you got to enjoy it.

  13. Did you hear the NPR contest about gardens having a contest on what lily pad could hold the most weight? I think one is MIssouri won with a man who stood on it. Like your photo, I've never seen more than a frog! Like your page, too!

  14. That is a huge stamp you used on your artwork. Wow, well done on using it so successfully. Love how you watered down some areas to give a variety of the same colour, a really effective technique to use .
Thanks for all the photographs of the flowers in the garden. Ranging from that bright red to the raggedy white beneath it. Love the metal pieces

  15. Wow, you have Stampscapes? I subscribe to the owner Kevin's newsletter but have never had the courage to invest in them. I've seen some stunning artwork made with those stamps but not for the casual stamper! Great title for your page. Ever seen the Clark Gable and Loretta Young COTW movie? They had a torrid affair during filming up in Canada, he knocked her up, she secluded herself until she gave birth, then pretended to adopt their daughter, who all the while was the spitting image of Gable. They say it was the worst kept secret in Hollywood and the night before Judy's (the daughter) wedding, her fiance' finally told her who her real dad was. The movie's pretty good but the backstory is the real draw, lol. This last week has seen a ton of butterflies, bees and frogs in our backyard. I'm constantly amazed at the difference in nature this year. XOX
