Hi everyone. Happy September. I'm sad to see that the meteorological summer months are over already, but I'm also excited for autumn. Autumn is my favorite time of year. September here in New Hampshire is usually a beautiful month with warm days and crisp nights good for sleeping with the windows wide open. 😏
Since it is a new month, it is time for a new challenge at Art Journal Journey Before I welcome our new host, once again let me thank Chris for hosting last month and also thank everyone who joined her. Hot August (Nights and Days) was a fun way to wrap up summer.
This month I want to welcome Mia back as our host. You most likely know Mia from her blog Craftartista. This is Mia's second month this year that she's hosting; please give her a big shout out for doing that.
Mia's challenge this month is BACKGROUNDS. She's challenging us to create our own backgrounds. Here's my first page, where I made a background that is also the art.
I used my Dina Wakely ledger journal to create my page. I also used this beautiful (and big) flower image (not sure the maker) with some black embossing powder. I'm not the best embossing powder user as I always seem to miss some spots when I go to heat set it. 😏 Plus its harder to work with in the middle of a journal compared to embossing on a flat paper surface.
Once the black powder was heated, set and then cooled, I used watercolor paints to color in the flowers and the leaves. To finish my page, I simply added the gold sun sticker and a quote from a Studio Light sticker book.
Before I finish this post I also need to mention the dreaded rules. At Art Journal Journey we only accept art journaling; PLEASE NO CARDS, TAGS, ATC's or other non art journaling pieces. And you are welcome to link up from social media, BUT JUST BE AWARE we might not be able to comment on your page if you do. Not all of us have every social media platform there is.
This should be a fun challenge creating your own unique backgrounds, and I hope you're inspired to do that. I hope you join Mia's challenge. I look forward to seeing what people come up with.
WOW! Your first entry turned out great. I'm really impressed with the embossing and the coloring of the flowers. This is a fabulous first entry for Mia's theme at AJJ.

The ledger background really draws the eye in to the pretty blooms. Autumn really setting in here, love the colours, just not so keen on the dark cold nights.

ReplyDeleteAutumn is my favourite season too. Time for all the lovely colours that are so rich and warm. Things like pumpkins and steaming cups of hot chocolate, warm fires with the flames dancing and making lovely patterns on the ceiling. Exciting!
ReplyDeleteLove your journal Page Erika the flowers are gorgeous and fill your ledger page so nicely with the script still peeking in-between the flora. Black ep is always difficult to use as it can spread where you don't want it to.
