Hi everyone. Happy new week to you. And hello to everyone who stops by Bleuebard's and Elizabeth's blog for T day.
Why is it you can have a lot of socially busy days one week and then the next week is quiet? That's how my last week was, quiet. And the week before was packed full. I didn't mind the quiet though because I had a lot of things to do around the house, even though I didn't get the whole list finished, I did get quite a few of the big things done. 👍
I thought I'd share a few garden photos (OK warning, this is another photo heavy post!) today since everything is looking good, except my rose bushes. I'm not quite sure what the problem is but some of those roses have lost all their leaves. After doing some research, I'm leaning towards it being too dry (we are in a moderate drought from last year still) mainly because my gigantic climbing rose is doing great, and that rose bush is right near the outdoor faucet that leaks when the water is turned on, so it's getting extra water.
This climbing rose bush is very happy where it's planted. It is covered with buds right now, so in a couple of days it most likely will be filled with flowers. You can also see my thyme plants around the base of it are huge too, except the spot where the creeping thyme is.
One day last week I gave the rose bed a good weeding as there was Creeping Charlie there, and I read although it doesn't hurt the roses, it aggressively sucks up water. Now that it gone, and I've been watering more, I've noticed some of the plants are getting fresh shoot coming up from the roots.
But then even my bare roses have flowers.
This next rose is one I can remember the name of. It''s a Julia Child rose bush, and the yellow roses turn white as they age. It was named that because of course eggs have white and yellow parts.
If you're not distracted by the roses, yes, our house needs a good painting.
I gave all my roses a good feeding, and as I mentioned, have started watering them. I'm not a rose expert by any means, so if you spy something I'm missing, I'd love the advice.
I also have some late blooming fancy irises looking good.
My asparagus plants are blooming, and you can see the full pollen sacs on this bumble bee. Funny, there are many of bees on the plant, but so far I can't get a clear photo of any of them. 😒
The milkweed will be blooming soon or is starting to bloom.
All of my spirea plants are in full bloom, and besides bumblebees, my honey bees are fond of them also. I started with 2 spirea shrubs years ago, and those 2 plants have seeded many other spots in the yard. They do look great when they bloom though, but every year I pull out too many new plants. (And occasionally I keep a few.)
I plant my giant dahlia bulbs in some pots every year (it's easy to find them to dig them up come fall), and they are now popping up above the soil.
And my veggie garden is looking good. I've been picking lettuce and spinach lately. (Excuse the shadow places in the photo.)
I haven't planted peas in a long time, and look, there's some pods forming.
And my cukes are flowering. So are my green peppers and my tomatoes.
The deck pots are looking great too, and my house plants are out.
My asparagus fern looked horrible a month ago, but now it is oversized again.
What I love about my deck garden is how I can easily change it up every year, and since I plant annuals they give me flowers all season.
After some time puttering around outside, it's time for a snack. And my drink for T day.
Here's a mug of my homemade iced tea and a bag of Fritos. We stock up on little snack bags of various treats in the summer (the only time we buy them) because they are convenient for when we're out and about. We put them into a small cloth cooler and call it our snack bag.
That's all for me today. Wishing you a great T day and week ahead.
Now your garden is in full bloom! Do you have an automatic watering system in your garden or have to water all the plants manually?
ReplyDeleteCreeping Charlie!!! OK, thanks AI I know what it is - funny name! And "Originally introduced to North America by European settlers for medicinal and ornamental purposes" - interesting!
ReplyDeleteYour yellow house and flowers are so beautiful! (our house is a frustrating grey).
And veggies, wow. And that chair! So beautiful with the clean deck - you´d cry seeing ours! Ingo has hand, I have back, not a chance we get anything done.
Have a great T-Day, hugs
Everything looks great! I got some chard seeds planted the other day and will plant a few other things once I get some soil for the planter boxes. My friend is a flower gardener (and retired florist) and it's fun to see the flowers as they bloom through the spring, summer, and autumn. I don't know anything about flowers, but I expect I'll be learning :-) The poppies started blooming last week.
ReplyDeleteI love your garden so much. Beautiful flowers. I can do without the creeping Charlie though. I'm very allergic. When you asked about rose advice, I had to share what I just learned while researching what to do with leftover whey from making cottage cheese. It said that you can dilute it and water acid loving plants such as roses and blueberries. Not that it does you any good if you don't have any but I thought it very interesting anyway. Happy T day
ReplyDeleteYour roses are beautiful. Your garden is so organized. Himself's farm is helter skelter. Stay dry today as I think most of the day will be wet. A good day to do some art. Happy T Day
