Mid-Week Art

Hi everyone. Happy middle of the week to you.

Today I am sharing some various art. I'll start with another page for Halle's I've Got a Notion challenge at Art Journal Journey. Although I don't have any actual sewing material on today's journal page, I do have some sewing themed paper pieces.

I have a few old sewing themed dies, and I used them here. The sewing machine, the sewing dress form and the bottom lace are all die cuts. In the center I used an old sewing themed embossing folder. I embossed the backing on a piece of packaging from a supply that I had bought. I have a whole pile of supply and other types of light cardboard/heavy paper that makes great die cutting, embossing and even used directly art pieces. The background of my page is  a Gelli print, and finally, I used an old rubber stamp several times on the page. I thought this quote, although not strictly about sewing, suggests all kinds of clothing one can make with a sewing machine.

I also have another tag for Pinky's "Flowers"  challenge at Tag Tuesday. This time I  went a bit grungy. I’m not sure if I like this tag or not, but I don’t dislike it either. 😉 I also used a shaped die cut to make the base tag, and I also did some stamping to decorate it.

Before I end this post and since I'm not posting tomorrow, I want to wish everyone in the US a Happy Independence Day.

And to everyone, have a great couple of days!

Second on the Second

Hi everyone. Just a quick post to join Bleubeard's and Elizabeth's blog and their Second on the Second challenge.

Here's an art journal page from 2019. I'm sharing this because this month Halle is hosting at Art Journal Journey and she has a sewing themed challenge.  I was looking through my blog and came across this page.

This page is from June 25,, 2019 (link here: Material Girl).
I like this idea that I had so maybe I'll need to copy myself and try making another dress page. 😏

Have a super day!

T Stands for Wrapping Up June

Hi everyone. Happy new month to everyone. We're into the second half of 2024-wow! And it 's July, which means (at least here in New Hampshire) summer is really here.  And happy T day to everyone who stops by with their drink related photos at Bleubeard’s and Elizabeth’s blog.

June was another fun and busy month for me. Besides my usual keep-me-busy activities, I had a few fun adventures last month too.

I went to the beach one morning before my dentist appointment. (My dentist is about 10 minutes away from the beach.) I went early in the day, took a beach walk and sat and read for a while.

It still wasn't super crowded when I left for an 11 AM teeth cleaning, but a couple of hours on the beach is all I need.

This (above) is not a very good photo, but I only had my phone with me. While walking and reading on the beach I was watching a couple of badly eagles feeding and then chilling out on these rocks just offshore. No one else seemed to notice them.  The week I went to the beach I saw bald eagles on 4 different days. It was pretty awesome to see so many eagles.👍

We finally put my husband's boat into the water last month too.  On our first trip out we went fishing. We started fishing for mackerel which we put into the live-well in my husband's boat. The live well fills with water and pumps oxygen to the fish to keep them alive. We used a couple of these fish for bait, and after we finished for the day we released the others back into the ocean.

We then went striped bass fishing. I skunked my husband. 😀 ❤👍 Grin.  This guy is just a juvenile; the adults can grow as tall as me (60 inches or 152 cm), or  since I'm pretty short, even taller. He went back into the water because in New Hampshire (I believe all of New England) you can only keep fish who are 28-31 inches (71-78 cm) in size. It's part of the conservation program to protect the population. I probably would have released him anyhow, even though they are very tasty to eat.  And by the way, of all our mackerel, the one on my line was the only one to lose his life because this guy had him for dinner.

One Saturday morning I dragged my husband strawberry picking. Not his favorite thing, but he does love fresh strawberries,

We weren't even close to finish our picking when I took this photo. And below, part of the field we were picking in. I will say it was pricey this year to go picking, but these strawberries are way better than the grocery store variety.

This next picture is the photo I almost forgot to take. One Sunday for a late lunch I took my husband to Pop's. It wasn't very wonderful weather (but not raining), so we ate in his truck. But the weather meant there weren't any lines, plus it was like 2 in the afternoon so it was past the lunch crowd and before the dinner crowd. And no, my Diet Coke was not floating, I was holding it next to what's left of my lobster roll, the first of the season. They're still pricey this year although even grocery store whole lobsters are pricey this year so-far too. We brought our own drinks.

That's all for me today. I hope everyone has a lovely T day. If you're in the US., I'll wish you a happy early July 4th. And since I missed posting on Monday I hope my Canadian friends had a lovely Canada Day. And everyone, I hope you have a super week ahead.

Just an FYI- I might get a bit behind commenting this week since my husband is on vacation. We're not going away anywhere, but I know he wants to go boating and do some other things, so therefore I might not have much computer time.

Hello July

Hi everyone. Happy July 1. June flew by; I can't believe we're starting a new challenge at Art Journal Journey already. However I will admit, June 1 seems like a long time ago. I think I've gone on garden time. Early June was Iris blooms, and they seem like they bloomed a long time ago, so therefore the start of June seems like a long time ago. 😏

Since it is a new month, it's time for a new challenge at Art Journal Journey. First let me once again thank Matilde for hosting in June. And let me thank everyone who joined her What Makes You Happy challenge. It was a fun month, wasn't it?

But now that it is July,  I want to welcome Halle who you might know from her blog Halle's Hobbies. I believe Halle has hosted AJJ before, but it's been quite a while, so it is really great to have her back! ❤

Halle's theme for July is all about sewing and things to do with sewing. Her theme is

I've Got a Notion

According to Halle, anything to do with sewing works. You can stitch, use buttons, trim, zippers, threads, or as far as I can tell, anything related to sewing. Check out the AJJ homepage to see what Halle wrote.

The sewing related pieces on my page are some die cuts, some cloth trim and some pieces of thread. I started by taking a sheet of water color paper and 2 pieces of cloth trim. One is black and one is  a fabric measuring tape. I stitched them down on the water color paper, and then I cut them out. I had to do this extra step because it is very hard to stitch into a spiral bound journal, unless of course you take the page out.

I used some super sticky tape to attach the trims to my page. Then I stamped and colored 3 mandala's. I fussy cut them and added them to my page. Then I die cut the scissors, the thread spools and well as 3 paper buttons. I embossed the buttons, and then, before gluing them down, I put a thread through the holes. I also wrapped some thread around the die cut spools. After everything was glued down, I finished my page by stamping the Material Girl quote several times around my page.

I hope you're feeling inspired to "sew" a bit and join Halle this upcoming month at Art Journal Journey. Please don't forget our dreaded rules that say we only accept art journaling. But that journaling can be of any size or format.

And have a super start to the new month too.
