Hi everyone. Happy second day of July to you. I'm here today with a second look for Second on the Second which you can find at Altered Book Lover's blog blog. I'm also going to share a new page for Halle's Botanical challenge at Art Journal Journey. Both of my pages have a Botanical theme.
Let me start with my second look, which is from my post on July 16, 2018. This is a photo and a page from my Japan journal. I was very lucky to be able to travel with my school to Japan in April of that year, and at one of the shrines we visited, I discovered something called the Marriage Tree. Or maybe trees is more accurate.
The rope between the 2 trees is a symbol of how the 2 trees grow together over time, just like 2 people in a marriage also would.
I made a journal page about these trees, and that's my second look.
And for a new look and to join Halle's Botanical challenge which is this month's theme at AJJ, here's a recently made journal page.
You can see on this page I used some pink paint as well as some vintage style flowered backgrounds paper. I added the frame and a die cut bouquet that I inked and painted. The circles started with paint, then I used a watercolor pencil on them, and finally to finish those circles I used either a pink or orange marker. I added the sticker butterfly and stamped the quote which is from a set by Paper Artsy. I finished by adding the little crow which came from a roll of clear tape.
That's all for me today. When I have to be at the lake for 7 it definitely cuts into my morning blogging time. I hope everyone is having a wonderful start to this new month.
...what a great symbol, next month, my Sweetie and will have been "grown together" for 57 years.
ReplyDeleteThe Japanese seem to have maintained a special relationship with their trees, a behaviour we would do well to emulate. But we won’t. Trump is even opening up national forests to logging. All the best - David
ReplyDeleteYour page is lovely and a beautiful depiction of the trees, which is really a lovely idea.
ReplyDeleteBoth pages are pretty! I love esp. that window frame with a bouquet.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of the wedding trees! And your artwork to it!
ReplyDeleteAnd the second - a wonderful quote and art-composition - thank you for the smile. Hope your weather is not as hot as hours - or are you allowed to go for a swim whilst working? Oh, wish we had a lake nearby (we have, but swimming not allowed). Hugs and to a great day
I don't remember this post, although I remember you going to Japan (I was only a itsy bitsy teeny weeny envious)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful symbolism with the tree and in your page it is much clearer how the two trees are connected.
I remember that post. It was so clever how you tied those two trees together. I was really impressed and always love re-reading about your trip to Japan.
ReplyDeleteYour latest entry is lovely. I love the window frame and the die cut flowers outside. This is a charming entry for Halle's theme at AJJ.
Happy (early) 4th 🇺🇸🎉to you, Erika, and hope you enjoy a wonderful holiday weekend. Tis true that any type of work can reduce blog time posting and reading, including the housework and laundry I'm doing today 😟
ReplyDeleteWow! I didn't get to see your AJ page from 2018, so I'm glad you're resharing it because those trees are amazing! Very nicely done! And for this current page, I just LOVE the bright pink colors that are showing and the flower background is very cool! Love it!
ReplyDeleteThe marriage trees are very cool and you journal page captures the meaning so well. A little gloomy here this morning. Enjoy your day
ReplyDeleteJapanese shrines always provide some very interesting customs to make us think! I like the symbolism of the roped-together trees.
