Hi everyone. Happy Thursday to you. My post today is also going to be for Friday Face Off and Friday Lunch Break, which I hope to have time to link up to tomorrow. Tomorrow, as you know, is July 4 (since today is July 3), and here in the US it is our Independence Day. I'm not sure whether we are still much of a democracy anymore, but if I put politics aside, it is the big holiday for my husband's family. Many of us will be at the lake tomorrow enjoying what looks to be a beautiful day. (And if I don't get by your blog before the weekend, I hope you'll understand.)
Here's some more garden photos. I hope you're not sick of them.
The other day I had 2 mama wild turkeys and their babies pass through the yard. (Ignore my grass in the photos; it's a disaster. 😏) I had to take the photos through the window since if I stepped outside they'd be gone.
My zinnia seeds are growing great, but I'm waiting for my begonia tubers to sprout. I didn't get them planted until late this year.
In this next photo you can see brussel sprouts, lemon grass, parsley, kale, and some basil seeds that have sprouted.
Can you also see the 2 duck faces?
The tomato plants have gotten huge,
and I have lots of green bean plants starting to flower. The peppers in the back of the beans haven't grown very much, but I do see some flowers.
The milkweeds are starting to bloom too. They smell fabulous. You don't even have to be up close to get a whiff either. No wonder why they attract butterflies and bees.
And there are still roses in bloom.
All this plant growth and blooming inspires me to once again join Halle's
Botanical challenge at
Art Journal Journey.
I don't like the stamped quote in the middle of this page, but they are there and that's all I can say. 😏 I made this page as an ode to walking in a garden. I started using 3 shades of blue ink. I used those blues on the background, the splatters and the butterflies. I had originally painted the edges of this page with some bright color and I really hated how that looked, so after some white paint and then some more blue ink, I took care of that. I added the frame that started out white, some fussy cut flowers, a stamped and fussy cut bird and finally a couple of little half-pearls.
That's all for me today. Wishing everyone a happy rest of your week, and if you're celebrating the July 4th holiday, I hope you have a lovely holiday too.
Freshly watered pots of plants can not only look attractive, but they can also supply your kitchen with fresh fruit and vegetables. I cannot wait to see your tomatoes and green beans etc in full growth,
ReplyDeleteIt must be so much fun to have these Wild Turkeys bring their babies to visit. I am quite envious! Your milkweed looks very healthy. With luck Monarchs will be drawn to it and a whole new generation will take wing. Enjoy your festive weekend coming up. All the best - David
ReplyDeleteYou have got some cool visitors! That basil plant looks pretty strong and great. Mine never looks so healthy.
ReplyDelete...to have turkeys so close is amazing. I always scare them off.
ReplyDeleteA lovely walk through your garden. Mama turkeys and poults so cute. Your flowers are just gorgeous. Another winner of a day. Eye to the sky for thunderstorms later.
ReplyDeleteWhat is blooming there at your place, magnificent!!!
ReplyDeleteThe turkey family is so cute!
Your journal page is beautiful with the butterflies and pretty flower heads! The background with the blue patterns is perfect.
Hugs Elke
Love your garden photos. Nice page too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post Erika, and I loved seeing the wild turkeys too-we would see them more often at the woods house but we have them here too along with the deer
ReplyDeleteWow -- it's growing like a neatly ordered jungle of green and color! You have the knack. I've never seen such teeny turkeys!
ReplyDeleteIt is such good luck to have wild turkeys in your yard. Your garden is exceptional. So pretty and everything looks healthy. Happy 4th.
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful garden! And ohhh, the cute turkey-family. Love your blue art, too - to summer!
ReplyDeleteAnd to celebrating independence - hope you have or had fun at the lake, hugs
Beautiful flowers and garden, my friend. I love that turkeys come up to your yard - we used to have them too and I miss them. Lovely page representing your garden walk. Hugz
ReplyDeleteDear Erika,
ReplyDeleteI will never get tired of looking at garden photos – especially when sweet little creatures are part of the scene! Your two turkey families are simply adorable 🦃🦃. And I completely understand why you had to take the pictures from indoors – I often do the same to avoid disturbing the animals. Sometimes the experience itself and our love for wildlife matter more than getting the perfect shot.
Don't worry one bit about your lawn – the whole "English lawn" thing is overrated and honestly out of fashion. The new trend is all about natural, pollinator-friendly gardens – so you're totally on point 🌿!
You've planted quite a few edibles – good for you! Actually, it's more than I managed this year. Besides fruit trees and berry bushes, we only have tomatoes, salad greens, Jerusalem artichokes, and herbs. My zucchini, sadly, didn’t make it. (But next year I’ve got big veggie-growing plans again!)
Your flowers are stunning, too – the yellow rose looks a lot like mine. Is it a climbing rose by any chance? 🌸
No wonder your beautiful garden inspired your journal page – and I think the result is wonderfully harmonious, even if you're not 100% satisfied with it.
All the best from Austria,
Traude

I thoroughly enjoyed the look at your garden--the one milkweed flower looks like it has a face in the center :-) I never had good luck growing peppers, except for Hungarian wax peppers in my very first garden and sometimes jalapenos. Bell peppers, not so much. I'm hoping to grow some cool weather veg now that I have some outdoor space, so will be looking for spinach, chard, etc. In the meantime, I'll grow some msutard and cress microgreens and some sprouts.
ReplyDeleteHave a great Independence Day weekend with your friends and family!
My congratulations on the US Independence Day 🤩
ReplyDeleteI'm wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead 😘🌿🍒
P.S. your garden looks already great; thanks for sharing the photos 🌞
Lovely garden, I only spotted one duck face.
ReplyDeleteOh, and now I realize the other duck face was in a different photo. LOL
ReplyDeleteHappy Fourth of July, Erika

Erika, your flowers are looking beautiful and hope the butterflies will be coming soon, if not already. Wishing you a wonderful 4th celebration.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness...love your garden photos. I also loved your journal page for AJJ. Happy 4th...it's hard to know how to feel this Independence day...because is it really any more??
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you shared this post with FFO. Have a very nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteThose wild turkeys are amazing. I love your garden. Your basil is doing well and so is your lemongrass. Mine died because I stupidly cut it back.
ReplyDeleteYour roses are lovely. My grandmother's favorite rose was yellow. And your tomatoes are awesome.
What a great journal page. I especially like the soothing colors and the frame. This is a great entry for Halle's theme at AJJ.
Love your garden photos, Erika! I can see how all that greenery inspired your page. I too was going to say it has a soothing vibe before I saw Elizabeth's comment. 😊 Hope the plants continue to thrive. Happy July! Anita xx
ReplyDeleteI did enjoy your garden photographs.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Lemongrass!!! How cool is that. I'm super duper jelly. Very cool that you're growing your own lemongrass.
ReplyDeleteI never had turkeys as visitors in my garden, Erika. I live in town, so this seems incredible for me.
ReplyDeleteI love the photos of your garden!!!
And what a beautiful page, my friend! Great for Halle's challenge at Art Journal Journey.
