Hi everyone. Happy new week to you, and as I always say, hello to all the T day participants who join in with their drinks over at Bleubeard's and Elizabeth's blog.
Last week was a very busy week for me. Besides working my 2 mornings, I spent some time at the lake where my mother-in-law's house is. I believe I've mentioned this before, but even though I call it my Mother-In-Law's home, she is now in a nursing home as her dementia as well as her body functions have become too much for her to be cared for at home or in the assisted living where she was. The house is actually now my husband's as well as his 2 sisters. This is the second year we've all been assigned weeks, (the best way to keep any one family from "hogging" the house), and last week was our week.
I was very excited that my daughter had some comp time at work and so she took Friday afternoon off and came over to join us. My husband also took the day off from work too, so the 3 of us could have a nice time together. (Well 5 of us if you count the dogs.-Grin) We had a nice afternoon, but later in the day we had a huge rainstorm.
Luckily that storm only lasted about 30 minutes, but, HA HA, it was just long enough for me to doze off and have a nice little nap. π
Saturday I had a wedding shower to go to for my husband's niece. She always tells me I'm her favorite aunt, and I definitely think of her as my niece too. Anyhow, when her sister had a wedding shower during COVID, I didn't go. I did send a gift and I made a paper flower bouquet as a decoration on the gift. That bouquet was a big hit, so I figured I better make one for the niece too. I thought I'd share a few views of this latest bouquet today.
I had a spare tyvek envelope from the post office, and I liked the material, so I die cut a bunch of flowers from that envelope. Then I played with some alcohol inks to color the flowers. I also cut a few flowers from cardstock that I mixed in with the tyvek flowers.
Here's a close up view.
Earlier in the week my good friend who lives in North Carolina was up visiting. She tracked down someone who we used to work and be friends with and who had moved away 20+ years ago, so one afternoon the 3 of us had lunch together and had a good catch up. And ha ha, when the waiter came over, I looked at him and thought he was one of my former students. When I asked him he smiled and said "Hi Mrs. Nelson. I recognized you as soon as you walked in." Not only did I have some friends catch up but I was also able to catch up and see what my former students was up to. π
I never took any bridal shower photos, but I have 2 drink photos for T day this week. I'll warn you, there's some food in case you're hungry.
The first one is when I had lunch with my friend this week. I had a couple of pulled pork tacos and a frozen strawberry margarita. It was very hot and humid that day and so the icy drink was refreshing.
My other photo is from Friday when I mentioned that my daughter took the afternoon off and joined my husband and myself. She loves a good lobster roll, and she hadn't had any from Pop's this year, so on our way up to the lake we stopped and picked up some take out for our lunch. You can see my Diet Coke which I brought from home.
I probably wouldn't have shared a photo but I have to say that this lobster roll was the best one I'd had in a long long time. It was hot that day and also we wouldn't be eating lunch for about 30 minutes so I got both of our sandwiches with mayo (figuring butter would make everything soggy after that time), which as you can see if really lightly added. This sandwich was my idea of lobster roll perfection and definitely one worth taking a photo off. π
What a lovely way to share a slice of everyday life. Your paper flower bouquet looks like such a thoughtful and creative gift using that tyvek material with alcohol inks must have made for a beautiful texture and color combination. It’s wonderful how you keep those special family traditions alive even through busy weeks and changing times. That moment with your former student recognizing you must have felt like a heartwarming full circle those connections really do last a lifetime. And your meal photos made me smile; a frozen margarita on a hot day and the perfectly light mayo lobster roll sound like little joys worth savoring.
ReplyDeleteI’m curious, do you think the nursing home and the family’s shared care of the house have brought you all closer in some unexpected ways? It’s a lot to balance, but it seems you find the meaningful moments in it all.
What a full and lovely week. It looks like the lake house provides a great escape, and it's wonderful that your family can gather there. Those paper flowers are truly special; using Tyvek from an envelope is such an inventive touch. Do you find the alcohol inks give them a different texture or vibrancy compared to other coloring methods?
ReplyDeleteLove the bouquet and the food looks yummy -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
ReplyDelete...FABULOUS flowers and FABULOUS eats. I'd love an all day rain.
ReplyDeleteIt must be such a peaceful retreat. That nap during the rainstorm sounds like a sweet little treat! And wow, your paper flower bouquet is gorgeous
ReplyDeleteYou did an excellent job creating those paper flowers. We really had enough rain last two weeks...today will be again another day full of rain..I am still waiting for the summer to arrive.
ReplyDeleteLucky you to have those flower dies. I'm in awe. I love using tyvek, but the PO got wise and added words on the inside as well as part of the outside. Fed EX tyvek is still only one sided. It's harder to find, though. Your bouquet turned out great.
ReplyDeleteYou are right. You really made me hungry, but not for lobster roll, which I have never had. Thanks for sharing your diet coke and margarita with us for T this Tuesday, dear Erika.
Your paper flower bouquet looks wonderful, Erika, and I'm sure that your niece appreciated it. Very creative idea to use a tyvek enevelope for this. The lobster roll looks delicious - When we were in Maine many years ago I ate lobster roll almost every day. So yummy. I love seafood and am glad that we get it very fresh here, living so close to the coast. I hope you have a wonderful week! Hugs - Carola
ReplyDeleteIt's 6am here and I fell hungry already, and oh for lobster, so hard to get here in the UK and when we can sooooo expensive!
ReplyDeleteYour decoration idea for the gifts is beautiful and so unique, can never be two the same.

What great times spent with friends, family, and an unexpected meeting with a former student--very cool!
ReplyDeleteThose paper flowers are fabulous!
Wow -- what a perfect week! That bouquet is fabulous and had to have taken a lot of time -- but it's a keeper! I love that you had time with your daughter, your husband, longtime friends (isn't that fun!) and even a student! Then the fun of a shower. And Pops! That lobster roll looks to die for! Why is it we feel we can have those longer get togethers and reunions in the summer and they're so hard to pull off the rest of the year, even when we are retired? It looks terrific!
ReplyDeleteGood morning Looks like a really fun time at the lake home, the wedding shower and more. Love the bouguet you made and the food looks delicious.!
ReplyDeleteYour floral bouquet is incredible. Sounds like a good week with time on the lake and lobster rolls from Pop's. Fun that you recognized a former student and had lunch with old friends. Stay cool Happy T Day
ReplyDeleteOh yes, dear Erika – your lobster roll made my mouth water! ππ¦ And I certainly wouldn’t say no to a frozen strawberry margarita either ππΉ
ReplyDeleteHow lovely that you, your husband (and the dogsπ) were able to spend some quality family time with your daughter.

How lovely to spend time with your family at the lake, that downpour looks epic π. Loving your flower bouquet, that looks like a fun and detailed make - stunning! You had me at lobster roll - so yummy ❤️. Sending you very Happy T Day wishes! Hugs, Jo x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job making these.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bouquet and... thank you for the VERY BIG smile! To old friends and pupils!!!!
ReplyDeleteHmmmm your food and drink looks very good!
Oh-oh on the mayo, though! Last time - many years ago in summer - Ingo and I went to Braunschweig zoo. Fries with ketchup and mayo on a hot day.
We made it home and then... then....2 days sick! Be careful with mayo on hot days.... (I know it was that as the ketchup stayed inside).
Happy belated T-Day, glad you are well! Hugs
Those flowers are awesome! Those foods look so yummy too!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason my whole comment has disappeared. Suddenly it jumped right off the page. I love the bouquet you made, and you took me back in time to when i had a tyvek time. So many wonderful things I did with it, but i cannot really remember now. Something with the heat gun? Anyway your flowers are lovely, so bright big and bold.
ReplyDeleteGlad you have had a lovely social time. A catch up with friends and a past student (I once had a meal in a local pub with a friend and the waitress was a girl from school [I knew she worked there] but until she brought him out I had no idea her brother, a past student, was the chef)
Lovely to have your daughter meet up with you and oh what envy I had when I saw that lobster roll.
Hugs, Neet xx
I LOVE those flowers and that food and drink look delish! xox
