Wrapping Up Another Week, More or Less

Hi everyone. Happy Friday. It's been a crisp fall like week at my house, with some sunny days and some cloudy ones.

And even a bit of rain, though not much. It was only 55 degrees F/ 13 degrees C when I went to work Wednesday, and it only reached a high of 63 degrees F/ 17 degrees C. Brr. And we've even had a couple nights where the temperature has dropped to 47 degrees F/ 8 degrees C.  Double brrr.  But there is a bit of a warm up coming, which is great since we have the niece's outdoor wedding tomorrow.

Today I'm linking up to Nicole's Friday Face Off and Gillena's Friday Lunch Break. It hasn't been the most exciting of weeks, but here's some views  from this past week.

The 2 mama turkeys and their babies were back. The babies are getting so big.
Below, here's 3 other turkeys that came wandering through the yard. They're my faces for this week. I'm curious what the turkey population in my town is. I bet there's a lot of them because it seems you can't drive through town without seeing some.

I've been picking lots of tomatoes.

And also getting a regular pick of bell peppers and also jalapenos.

I put some sunflower and zinnia seeds in a growing bag earlier this season. The sunflowers are getting very tall and  flower buds are forming, but no blooms yet.

And I FINALLY have a couple of cucumbers coming. It's about time.

Something is taking bites out of a few of my tomatoes. GRRR.

The leaves of my brussel sprouts have been decimated. I'm guessing it's by some kind of insect since they are eaten around the veins, not just having a big bites taken out of them.

But I do have some little brussel sprouts starting.

You can never be unhappy when your zinnias bloom.

And even better, I saw my first monarch caterpillar on one of the milkweed plants growing in my yard. 😀

This beetle  was glistening a gorgeous copper color in the sunlight at the boat ramp. When I checked what it was  my Google Lens identified it as a sculptured pine borer.

I found this dead spider on top of my rain barrel, but I haven't been able to identify it.

This loon was sitting not too far off the boat dock at the boat ramp the other morning, serenading me.

Speaking of loons, I learned this new fact about them this week.  It's on this never ending calendar my daughter picked up for me at a conference put  on by the department she works for in Massachusetts.

And finally, I'll end this post with a view from a lovely morning walk I took the other day. That is one beautiful thing about cooler nights. They make wonderful mornings for walking.

Have a wonderful rest of your Friday and start to your weekend.

  1. Turkeys and tomatoes, sweet peppers, jalapeños and sprouts. Great results from your garden, and regular visits from turkeys. That all seems great to me. The pine borer is a bit ominous, though. I am happy that you have found a Monarch caterpillar. Where there is one there are probably more. We are raising three in the house right now. Two have pupated and one is still happily chowing down on swamp milkweed. Have a great weekend - David

  2. Good morning you got some garden veggies and blooms too-here none of my zinnias or marigold seeds grew-sadly and I love those, most of my perennials never bloomed either-just too hot and dry here sadly oh well just one of those hot summers here. Happy Friday and weekend hugs Kathy

The turkey, well, there's a roast turkey right in front of you. It's amazing how many of you have... oh, and your lovely vegetables are being nibbled on. It's nice that the duck on the dock serenaded you!
I wish you a nice start to the week too!

  10. This is truly a beautiful post. Turkeys are such good luck so look for something good to come your way. Your garden is amazing. All those tomatoes and peppers. It was too cold for mine. Hmmm wonder what got your Brussels. I've never seen that before. If there were loopers you would have seen them. A beetle maybe. Ohhh and your tomatoes. GRRRR is right. You cuc look good and healthy. The brussels look in good shape too. Wonderful flowers too. I didn't know about the Loons and their bones. LOL I really enjoyed your post. Thank you for sharing with FFO and have a great weekend.

  12. How exciting to have found he first monarch caterpillar. I hope there will be many more. I think the dead spider is some kind of orbweaver. I seldom use Google Lens anymore as an ID tool since it very often is just not correct. I love the Seek app - have you tried that one? Have a lovely weekend, enjoy the wedding of your niece. Hugs - Carola

  16. Big doings in your garden. The turkeys have been wandering through town here, too. Always have to be careful as they seem to cross the road at the most inopportune time. Great haul on your tomatoes and peppers. Too bad something has been getting at your plants. Himself's zucchini bit the dust. We saw a monarch butterfly in the yard, but haven't seen any of their caterpillars on the milkweed. I thought there was a periscope near that loon. 🤣I hope it's a great weather week in NH this week for 2OLOTR.

  23. Ugh to the spider first of all - that would make me run!
I am always amazed at the turkeys that wander all over

  24. Ugh to the spider, that would send me running.
I am always fascinated by the turkeys wandering around your garden and now you say they wander in the town. Do people catch and eat them? Or are they protected or inedible?
Love all your produce - shame some has been enjoyed by others.
Interesting information about loons and a wonderful photo to end with
    Hugs, Neet xx
