Hi everyone. Happy Sunday. I'm posting again this weekend because I want to share another page for Mia's Background challenge at Art Journal Journey. This time my background is made entirely from stamping and then over-stamping images.
I'll also be linking up to Gillena's Sunday Smiles.
In my ledger journal I started with a large (6x6 inch) crossword background stamp and black ink. Then I stamped with some reddish brown ink and a 6x6 grunge style stamp. I finished with navy blue ink and a different 6x6 grunge style background stamp. All the inks I used are from Versa Fine Claire.
I then took some paper clock images and layered them. The colors made me think of autumn, so I added a mushroom. The mushroom needed something to attach to (so it wouldn't be floating in air); to fix that I used some clock printed washi tape. To make the tape not look like it was floating, I used some scraps paper that I had die cut an edge from. I thought the left over had some design too, so I trimmed the straight edge and added it. Finally I added a small piece of clear tape from a roll that had crows printed on it.
I should have stamped the quote onto a separate piece of paper to make it stand out better, but I didn't like how the paper looked when I tried it, so instead I just stamped onto the page directly. Here's a close up of the quote.
The other day I had to meet someone in the afternoon, and where I was meeting them was not far from my local botanical garden (Bedrock Gardens). Since I haven't made it to the gardens since opening day in May, I decided to leave early and go for a walk around the gardens with my camera. It was a lovely day for a walk, and the gardens were not crowded. I didn't realize how mentally good that would be for me until after I got back in the car and realized how relaxed I was. ❤👍😀
Here's a few flower and late summer views photos from that walk. I hope you enjoy them.
Gorgeous inky background for the A&C clocks and as you say, the washi grounds the shrooms nicely.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed my trip round your garden again, the waterlily is amazing to still be blooming, ours finished ages ago.
Have a lovely week,
B x
I don’t think it’s a surprise that a walk through the gardens had a becalming effect. Flowers and their pollinators will do that for you. All the best - David
ReplyDeleteI really love the background of this page. We just came back from our 3-hr-walk..didn't bring the camera though.
ReplyDelete...Erika, it's nice to see the water lily bloom still looking fresh! Take care and be well.
ReplyDeleteLovely page and photos
ReplyDeleteHello Erika! I really love the backgrounds you have created. Wonderful layering and texture. Lovely work and lovely photography too. I love the berries one. Have a lovely September! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the look of clocks in art and this is a nice one. What a beautiful garden and how different in the fall than the spring! Happy September!
ReplyDeleteTime something we could all use more of, or at least be able to stop for a bit. Beautiful photos. Did you get the severe thunderstorms on Saturday? Holden had an actual tornado! We got heavy downpours, thunder, lightning. No winds and no hail. Stay dry today
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely page with the background and the clock faces. With your garden, it reminds me that time changes and moves forward no matter what. Wishing you well and a happy week ahead!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post. I really admire how you combine creativity with mindfulness the layered stamping, careful details, and thoughtful additions show both patience and artistic vision. Your walk through the botanical gardens also highlights the restorative power of nature, a gentle reminder from God’s creation to slow down and appreciate the beauty around us.
ReplyDeleteNice background and thanks for sharing the flowers on your walk
ReplyDeleteMuch♡love
A lovely page you've shared.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photographs too ... I do like the month of September.
Sending good wishes across the miles.
All the best Jan
That's an excellent page and the quote, which I've always loved--is perfect for it! I love your photos of the gardens--so much seasonal beauty.
ReplyDeleteSuper background, Erika. I love those words about it never being too late too. Lovely photos! Hugz
ReplyDeleteI love your journal page, and yes I enjoyed your photos-not much in bloom here Happy new week hugs Kathy
ReplyDeleteThat sounds absolutely rejuvenating! 🌿📸 There’s something so restorative about a quiet walk in a beautiful garden, especially with a camera in hand to capture the moments. It’s amazing how much a little time in nature can calm the mind—you can really feel the difference when you leave feeling relaxed and refreshed. ❤
ReplyDeleteGreat artwork! My Dad, amongst other, was a watchmaker. As kid I hated the ticking sound, now I have many clocks ticking as only noise when I work.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers, too! Hugs and thank you!
What beautiful flowers you've shared. Do have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteThe background and foreground are really beautiful. Very clever piece. It is amazing how flowers bring such joy. I wanted to tell you that all flash freezing does is keep the food from sticking to each other when you do freeze food. LOL A lot of freezing there. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteI hope your week is starting off on a good note. These flowers are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat an impressive background. I love the way it goes so well with the ledger paper. This another amazing entry for Mia's theme at AJJ.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of the flowers at Bedrock Gardens.
Your page is beautiful, but what I really enjoyed are the photos from your walk in the botanical garden. That would have relaxed me as well. Gardens are wonderful places for finding some peace.
ReplyDeleteWonderful this Journal page! Beautiful Photos are Flowers!
ReplyDeletehugs Elke
Beautiful florals from your walk, I love the last one particularly.
ReplyDeleteYour journal page has such a lot of work in it and it shows. It is a beautiful page and you must be so happy with it. I love the background with all the squares and the different over stamping and then the addition of the clock faces, Time is a favourite topic of mine, so for me you could not have chosen a better theme for your journal.
Lovely beautiful work Erika.
hugs, Neet xx
Lovely gardens and clocks/time is a good symbol for autumn because it is so fleeting. xoxo
ReplyDeletePrecioso Erika, un fondo muy original. Me encanta. Un abrazo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful page and flowers! Thank you, Erika, for entering my challenge at Art Journal Journey.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Mia
