Hi everyone. Happy new week to you. and hello to everyone who stops by Bleubeard's and Elizabeth's blog for T day on Monday night or Tuesday.
Last week was a busy one for me, but not as busy as Friday and Saturday ended up being. On those days I had a couple of fun adventures. And once again -Sorry 🙀- I have a longer post again.
The story actually starts in February, but first let me jump ahead to August. Many of you probably know that my husband and I really enjoy following our college men's ice hockey team. For the last couple of years they have been doing really well, so back in August when individual game tickets went on sale, I went onto the website as soon as ticket sales began. Do you think I could find 2 seats together? Not easily; I could only do that for one game, and that was this past Friday night.
Since my husband and I both went to the University of Maine (which is also where we met), Friday morning we left and took the 3+ hour trek up to Orono (where the University of located), stopping along the way to visit his mother who is in a nursing home on Portland.
No, that's not a lake in the distance, but the clouds make it look like a lake and a mountain ahead.
Maine was playing the University of Vermont. Even though we didn't have very good seats, we had a great time. Although I think you get more details watching it on TV with the commentators, the calls from the student section and the other noises of the game really give it such a good atmosphere. And even better, we won 7-0.😉
I took this photo before the game began because it was actually a sell out crowd, and there wasn't a seat to be had.
And for T, here's my first drink. Before the game I had some hot pretzel sticks and a bottle of water. That was my dinner, since we'd had a big lunch in Portland after we visited my mother-in-law.
OK, now let me go back to August. I purchased the tickets for this hockey game and then about an hour later I had one of those "OH *!#*&!*" moments. Darn it. I knew my Fridays were free, but I never looked at Saturdays. And the next day after the hockey game, I had to be in Boston which is about 4 1/2- 5 hours south from Orono.
Some of you may know that I am a Harry Potter fan as well as a UMaine hockey fan. The traveling Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is playing in Boston. My daughter and I had bought tickets back in February to go see the 1 PM matinee showing of this production for this past Saturday.
That meant that we had to drive down from Orono, Maine early so I could not only make the play, but I could meet my daughter and we could travel into the city together. The plan was to meet at 10 AM at a park and ride along the highway.
Saturday morning I set the alarm for 4:30 AM. My husband and I (and also the dogs who didn't go to the hockey game but slept in the car during the game) hit the road by 5:15 AM.
This next set of photos I call watching the sun come up from the front passenger seat and that I took on my phone as we drove. 😏
Friday when we drove north to the game, I left my car at a park and ride lot just south of Portland, Maine. My husband dropped me off there at about 8:30 Saturday morning. He headed home, and I headed down into southern New Hampshire to meet my daughter.
After my daughter and I met at another Park and Ride where I left my car again, she drove down to Cambridge, Massachusetts. There we picked up the subway and headed into the city. At this point I was very relieved that everything had gone smoothly. There had been nothing to throw off our meeting time (like traffic issues) nor our getting into the city (like traffic issues), and we were able to get into the city with enough time for a quick lunch before the play.
We even got to the theater early, and I bought us both iced butter-beers (the non-alcohlic butterscotch flavored drink famous in the Harry Potter series.) Here's my second drink photo.
The play was fantastic, and the effects were amazing. Here's the stage view while we waited for the play to begin. No photos were allowed during the play, and I don't think I would have remembered to take any even if they were.
At least on the trip home, I wasn't worried about getting someplace on time.
And when I finally got home, at about 7:15 that night, I was pretty tired.
That's all for me this T day. Wishing everyone a happy T day and week ahead.
Lucky you! Seeing both a game that interests you and a great theater performance… sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI loved playing hockey throughout 6 years of high school and 4 years of uni, but that was many decades ago. However I cannot tell if you play/watch regular hockey on grass or ice hockey.
ReplyDeleteWow busy busy-glad getting to the play and back went smoothly and a ice hockey game too-it all sounds very fun.
ReplyDeleteHugs
You had a busy and fun life :-)) You can't even pay me to go to a theater..
ReplyDeleteI like how you refer to the game. Here they say "against", which I don´t like.
ReplyDeleteOh what fun getting up that early for a drive! Put wonderful pics and you got it all, yippeee. And you look all happy :-)
Sounds like a great weekend, happy T-Day, and hugs, thank you for the fun read.

ReplyDeleteWow, a very long day and many miles for a very nostalgic trip but sounds like you packed in so much fun and activity. Many thanks for sharing all those lovely photos, Main always sits in my mind as an unscheduled Virgin refuel touchdown when bad weather diverted our journey.

Absolutely fantastic – theater and sports, plus meeting up with family members.
ReplyDeleteYour weekend was almost like mine,
except our drives were a bit shorter.
It's so lovely to share experiences with my daughter...
Best wishes.
Whew what a weekend! It's always exciting to see a play live and on stage. Even better to see it with your daughter. Happy T Day

Glad you managed to fit both event in, where there's a will and all that! That's a great photo of you at the theatre. I haven't seen the play but I did listen to a full cast production of the audiobook. Oh and my sister and BIL recently went to Harry Potter world near London, and had butterbeer, but they thought that version was too sweet. Have a great week! xx
ReplyDeleteLooks like a very fun and wonderful time! Love you sharing your fun adventures! Have a great rest of the week!
ReplyDeleteWhile very busy, it was a weekend with events you really liked plus you got time to spend time with your daughter - always a plus in my book. The stage of the play looks fantastic and I can imagine that the whole event was worthwhile the early getting up and all the driving. You look very happy in the photo. Happy T day!
ReplyDeleteWow! That was quite a weekend! No wonder you were tired. I'm so glad you had such a great time.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds fantastic, Erika. What a fabulous weekend with a great array of events. I'm so glad you enjoyed both and made it back to be able to have time for the show! I'd love to see that myself.
ReplyDeleteErika, I have never watched a hockey game either televised or in person so glad you and your husband have a mutual like of the game. What a busy weekend, but it looks like you had a fun one, aside from getting up early and driving.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a blast and you NEVER need to apologize because of a long post. It's fun to see everything.
ReplyDeletePhew! What a busy but fun weekend.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing your photographs.
Hope your week is going well.
All the best Jan
Great post! I loved reading it and seeing the sunrise with you in the car. To answer your question you asked when you visited my blog; yes, that is our son from Maine. 😄. I hope you had a great t day.
