I've Been Knitting and Other Random Things

Hi everyone. Happy Friday. I'm having a fairly quiet week,  but we've had some warmer temperatures (well winter warm,) so that has been a great break after all the cold we had so far this winter and that has now returned as of today.

Today I am joining Nicole for her Friday Face Off and I'm also joining Gillena for her Friday Face Off. Today I have some random photos to share, nothing too exciting since my week hasn't been wildly exciting either.

Here's my face for Face Off. It's not the clearest photo. But you can see part of a hat I knitted, at least the part not covered by my hood.

I've been back knitting my Icelandic sweater I started 2 winters ago. The first winter I managed to get through the 2 sleeves since I didn't start the sweater until February, and then by this fall I managed to get the plain part of the body done. Now I'm working on the  yoke, which I was hoping to finish by the new year, but since that hasn't happened, I hope to get it done soon. Icelandic yarn is pretty heavy so if I don't get it done soon, it will be sitting through the hot weather until next winter.

I counted wrong when reading the pattern to start to yoke, and by the time I realized it I would have had to rip out several rows. Nope, I didn't want to do that so I've been creating my own design as I go. But I have been following the pattern to know when to decrease stitches. I love creating my own pattern though and knitting with the multiple colors too.

Since we had some warmer days this week, I took the dogs down to the beach one afternoon when it was low tide. I didn't get to walk as long as I wanted to because my husband wanted me to drop him off at his office so he could get his work laptop and bring it home, but I did manage to get a nice hour of fresh air. The beach was great that day because even though there was no sun, there was also no wind.

Miss Maddie enjoyed the walk but not as much as Mr. Pete did. Maddie (being blind) needs to stay on a leash, but Pete is great off leash and doesn't bother other people. Since the beach wasn't  crowded, he got to do a bit of running.

That's all for me. Have a great rest of your Friday and start to your weekend.

  3. I love that Icelandic sweater. The colors are wonderful. i need to pick up a hand-craft again that I can do while watching TV. I should go with knitting since I have the yarn. If I start my needlefelting class this month (i need to contact the instructor) that's something too. I'm glad you had a good beach walk. Nice to be able to walk to the beach!

  10. Oh that sweater is going to be so cozy! It looks great--as does the hat. And I think it's great that you're winging it rather than frogging! It'll be even better because of it.

  12. I'm waving to you... oh, the sweater is beautiful, and it doesn't matter if it's your pattern or not, the main thing is that you can wear it in the end. I love things like that... your beach photo is wonderful, seeing you with your dog! Have a lovely Friday evening, hugs, Elke

  13. Lovely to see you smily face! (Love your hat)
Yes, I remember you starting your Icelandic sweater. Good to see it has progressed. It's going to look amazing, especially with your own design pattern. Those must be long round needles! Me being used to round needles for socks, which are much shorter of course.
You comment on my language skills. I'll tell you a story about one of those holidays. We would have our meals as a family in the hotel dining room every night. It wasn't a huge hotel so during the week the guests would all be the same people sitting around us at the other tables. On the last night, a gentleman from one of the next tables came to talk to us and asked: "Please tell us where you are from. I have not been able to figure it out." We would speak German to the waiters, mostly Dutch amongst each other. But sometimes we would speak English among each other, because my son doesn't understand Dutch. He would speak English to my parents. My son speaks mainly Italian so if he was being naughty I would tell him off in Italian, or I would translate the menu in Italian to find out what he wanted. To confuse matters even more, my son had been at his ski class all week and would every now and then cry out something in German he had picked up during the week. I totally understand that the man was confused with four different languages being spoken at one table.

  21. Your knitting is awesome. I used to knit things, but wasn't very good at it. I once made a hat and my friend couldn't stop laughing when she saw it. So, I will stick to things that I can do that won't give my friend an excuse to laugh :)
How lovely that you live near the beach. I lived on a lake for years and loved every minute of it, but we got too old to manage all the things that required care so we moved into a MIL apartment with my son and his family. It is wonderufl having them around, especially the Granddaughter. So, of course I enjoyed your post and look forward to coming back. We have had some not so cold days here (in Illinois)too, so I am hoping we are in for a mild winter. Stay warm and if we ever meet in person, I will hope that you can show me how to knit the right way :)

  22. Taking the dogs to the beach is an absolute pleasure, for them and for you. My Labrador loved running on the sand and the splashing in the shallow waters.

  23. Erika, your sweater looks amazing - it will be so beautiful when it will be finished. I have never knitted with Icelandic wool - is it soft or not so much? Somehow it looks to me as if you need to wear a long sleeve shirt beneath it (like I do with that LLBean sweater), but maybe my skin is simply too sensitive. Did you buy the wool when you were in Iceland? Have a great weekend - Carola
