Hi everyone. Happy Friday. Hope you're having a good week. We were supposed to have a very hot week, but then all the Canadian wildfire smoke blew in, keeping the temperatures down quite a bit. The cooler temperatures were great, but obviously, not the smoke. It's too bad there are wildfires again too.
One day the sky was yellow (that was weird), and then the other couple of days it just looked cloudy. However, it wasn't cloudy; it was just smoke.
And no, my photos are not as dramatic as some I have seen on TV. I'm sure some of you have had far more smokey scenes. But one thing I noticed yesterday that I have never seen before is a sun reflection on my deck. It had rained the night before so there were puddles, and the sun was leaving a light bright dot.
I hope if you're also in the smoke it's not too terrible, and let's hope the fires stop too.
Today I'm not here to talk about smoke but to join Halle for her Fabric, Trim and Lace challenge at Art Journal Journey. I'm also joining Nicole for Friday Face Off and also Gillena for Friday Lunch Break.
Today I have another unfinished cloth journal page. I made these pages before my machine went off to be fixed, and it's just been either too hot or too busy so I haven't yet gotten back into sewing since my machine came home. 😏
I have a package of these 1930's prints pre-cut into hexagons. It was a pack with some odd cuts, meaning many of them might have an edge that is a little longer than the other 5 edges. Anyhow, that's an easy fix because I can just cut those to the correct shape. I took 3 and stitched them down on my page. Then I also printed off the face using some cotton fabric that could go through my printer. (If you're curious and didn't see how to do that, you can see it here:

I die cut the flower out of some scrap fabric, and before I sewed that and the face down I used some yellow ric-rac trim across the page.
That's as far as I have gotten. For now.
I'm not sure if I'll be joining Sunday in the Art Room and Sunday Smiles as I have a lot going on this weekend. I could schedule a post, but I'm not sure I will be able to get around to everyone's blogs to comment, so if I don't post, have a super weekend and start to the new week. If I post, I'll see you Sunday. And if I haven't been by your blog recently, I will hopefully be by soon. 👍
Weeee, that is nasty in your place with the smoke. BBQs in parks are forbidden here, save water, too. It´s a crazy world.

ReplyDeleteI have NEVER seen a sun reflection on a deck. Wow. Yes, we're seeing it here, too. Haven't done any sun pix. They say tomorrow it will lighten up. I hope so!

We are just waiting for the smoke to reach Oklahoma. It could happen. It is unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteWild fires are so scary, and the smoke is downright annoying but it's better than being in or near a fire. We are having wildfires here too in southern Spain. Fortunately not quite near my house.

ReplyDeleteDwar Erika, your journal is lovely. So far here in Montreal we thankfully don't have the smoke and bad air quality from the wildfires, but Ontario has it now, and we here in Quebec are right next door to them.

Your hazy sun photos are impressive. We have bad air quality because of the fires up north today and have decided to stay indoors considering the heat and humidity. I can’t imagine the effects our northern neighbors are having to deal with and I hope they get relief very soon. Your journal page is very cool! I love the patterns and colors which go together beautifully. The cameo in the center is a perfect addition. Have a great weekend Erika!

ReplyDeleteThose smokey skies are terrible - or better said, the air is terrible. We have been through several "smoke events" here and by now he have several air filters in the house that are running when the smoke is bad. So far we have been lucky, but I do remember the thick orange skies we had back in 2020. It was awful and felt like the end of the world is near. I hope it will clear up in your area very soon.

ReplyDeleteYour use of the hexagons and rick rack was stunning. I love how you sewed that die cut flower to the background. But the face was the icing on the entire entry. This is another great entry for Halle's theme at AJJ, Happy belated AFFF and FFO, too.
Terrible about the wild fires Erika I did see the reports on TV the smoke looked so bad, having family in Vancouver and Alberta it's always an extra concern. Lovely sewing piece, nice to have fabrics of all ages and to be able to print onto them. My sewing machine has been running backwards for a number of months now and really needs a service.. another job to sort out.

ReplyDeleteWednesday the sky looked like we were living on Mars. Today, a cold front has pushed the smoke to the mid-Atlantic states. It will be a little better for us.
ReplyDeleteGreat start to your page! I hope the fires are brought under control and the smoke clears soon. We had some days like that in Fairbanks and it's not pleasant. Fortunately our house was on top of a hill and usually above the smoke, which settled in the valley so we only dealt with it in town or at work in the university.

ReplyDeleteThese forest fires are truly awful. We had one 10 years ago, and I really never want to experience it again.
ReplyDeleteThis summer has been great here; we've had lots of rain and lots of sunshine—except for a short, intense heat wave at the end of June. Today it's raining again, and it's 17 degrees Celsius at midday. I actually wore a fleece jacket to lunch.
Your hexagon appliqué is wonderful, and I love the fabrics you used.

ReplyDeleteDear Erika, the wildfires in Canada make me sad. So much precious nature lost again. And it must be unpleasant to be exposed to all that smoke. But the photos that resulted from it are quite charming.

Hi Erika! The Canadian wildfires have also been impacting us here in PA. It was quite intense on Saturday and Sunday, but today is much better. This summer has been so unpredictable with the weather, too. One day it’s scorching hot, and the next it’s cool and pleasant. We've been in a severe drought, too.

We too had wildfire smoke but ours was from a MN fire in Ely just outside the Boundary Waters.
