Yellow

Hi everyone.
I'm back again today with another page for Mia's flower challenge at Art Journal Journey
What do you think? Can can you see the flowers?
I used some of the Dina wakely spray paint and a stencil on watercolor paper to start with.  Then there was some spray ink and some rubbed ink. I stamped the again background image twice-one above the other, and then I added a scrap of Japanese book page.
I stamped the cranes and used a white pen to color them.
Finally I took some pieces of mica, attached them and stamped some cherry blossoms on them. Mica is fairly common in rocks around where I live, and since my driveway is gravel, I can go out and pick some up. The pieces are  never huge, but about the size of what you see on this page, since I picked up this mica from my driveway.
I will stick with yellow today. It is forsythia season in New Hampshire.

It is so exciting to see spring blooms and things getting green.
And how about this sign I saw last weekend?

Happy almost weekend again.
Thanks for visiting.

  2. What a fabulous page, Erika - I love the drama and the dark shadows at the centre, and that wonderful strip of calligraphy. How brilliant to have mica "on tap" as it were... and the forsythia is looking amazing.

  3. Oh Erika! First of all I super love the art. This might be my favorite so far out of all the beauties you have done and shared to us that I have seen. Those cranes look super alive on what you did by highlighting them with their white feathers, the sakuras on mica (I had to search what Mica is) is very creative. But the colors you used on the background makes it so perfect. It reminds me of Chrysanthemum flowers that my grandma buys every Wednesday in Manila when she was still alive, and yes, Chrysanthemums are Japan's National flower and has been the long running symbol of the Imperial Family of Japan. So it's very amazing!

    Sending hugs this Weekend!

PS First time for me to see photos of Forsythia, they look so magical!

  4. Lovely page and beautiful forsythia!
Today's one of those days when I'm struggling to see the positive, time to get out in the garden I think.

  7. Yes I can see the lovely flowers in your background, it a wonderful shade of yellow you used and I think maybe you inspiration came from the lovely flowering bushes. A fabulous page for Mia's AJJ theme
It was a super message on the sign as well, that dog looked so cute.
    Stay safe,

  13. I'm LOVING the colors you chose and the Asian theme. It's a gorgeous beauty with the cranes, too. Simply perfect for Mia's theme at Art Journal Journey, too.

Love the spring colors and the forsythia. I used to have that in my home in MO, but I don't think it grows well here. I've not seen any in Wichita.

Hope you are well and thanks for checking in on me. I am trying to play catch up.

  15. You can stick with yellow any day of the week for me! I like this piece a lot, Erika. The geisha looks suitably at home with the gold and the mica, which is really fun!

  16. Oh how nice to see yellow art. I have liked yellow a lot more since it was Rike's theme at Art Journal Journey a while back. Your stamping and white colouring is really excellent stamping, the cranes are so clear.
Funny about forsythia, we have a large bush but don't really pay much attention to it but now I will go out and see if it is still in flower and admire it. Thanks for the reminder.

  17. That's a great sign, so appropriate for the world we are living in at the moment. I don't know about you but I have up and down days, luckily more up days at the moment.
Loved forsythia, I think it makes everywhere look so happy with its bright sunny colour. I seem to have lost my forsythia bush in the garden - must go and investigate.
Great page with that lovely background and I love anything Asian. Am not quite as besotted as I was but i should think out of all my stamps my largest collection is of Asian themed stamps. Always wanted to go back to China for a holiday - guess I won't be doing that now.
Not quite sure what you mean about picking up mica - do you mean like the sheets of mica that we use in artwork that you peel layers from? You have me intrigued now - need to investigate.
    Hugs, Neet xx

  18. This is such a pretty composition Erika, lovely elements with the strip of text, cranes and little flowers. How marvellous to have mica to hand, do you grind it down with a pestle & mortar? The forsythia is a magnificent yellow a truly beautiful display. Wishing you a safe & happy weekend Hugs Tracey xx
