Girl Power

Happy Thursday.  I hope everyone is having a nice week.

My first piece of art today is this page for Art Journal Journey and Mia's butterfly challenge. It is a page from my Garden Journal, and since that journal is one of Dina Wakely's that you can buy, it has some cloth pages in it.

I began my page by stenciling the spot background with gold gesso. It reminded me of some of the spots you see on certain butterfly wings. The big wing and the girl are from an AALL& Create set. The wing is stamped and sprayed with paint. The girl is stamped and colored with markers, and then they were both fussy cut.  I also stamped the clock and quote from a very old set of Hero Arts stamps directly onto the fabric.  I'm "forcing" myself to pull out some old stamps and use them, which isn't at all forcing as it is fun to give them some new use.

I then used some  more recent but not brand new images from Carabelle to make the other stamped images on my page. I also have a couple of very old printed acetate 12x12 pages back from my scrapbooking days. I cut a piece out of one that said all girl and used it on my page also.  I liked the idea that my page now showed progression through life from a young girl, to a young woman and the uncolored hand looking like one from a more mature adult than the large winged women in the middle.

My second piece of art today is another tag for Michele's faces challenge at Tag Tuesday . On my tag today I  also "forced" myself to use more old stamps. Hee-hee.

I used the same ink colors as on my last tag, only made more of a striped effect. I stamped the  arch image directly onto the tag, and then I used the horses and brown ink 4 times. This horse stamp is really cool, isn't it? I definitely need to use it more often.

Finally I stamped the Roman or Greek woman's face and fussy cut it. I left it uncolored to pop off the colored background.  I decided to not add any quote because the tag seemed complete as is.

That's my art for Thursday.
Thanks for visiting!

Hi Erika! Lobe both art pieces. The journal page is absolutely stunning, wow, what a beauty! And the tag is fantastic, too, thanks so much for making another tag for Michele's challenge, much appreciated! Sometimes it's fun to play with older things. I spent yesterday evening chopping up old painted pages to make more weaves. Have a lovely day, hugs, Valerie

I like the butterfly wing on the girl. Like she's just spreading her beautiful wings. Wonderful tag. The goddess face is very cool. Enjoy the cooler weather today

The large butterfly wing is gorgeous! Erika this is a great collage. The strip of acetate with the words adds a terrific layer of interest. Gives me some ideas for using my acetate sheets. I really love all your intentions for this journal page. Your tag also is lovely. Yes, the horse image is very cool. I like all the images you used on this. A great vintage feel.

I love the shimmery color on that first one. Just like a real-life butterfly would have.

Erika, your page with the butterflies is really a masterpiece. I LOVE LOVE LOVE what you did here. Great use of colours and stamps. ADORABLE.
But I admit that your tag is beautiful too. I do not know if the woman is Greek or Roman, but definitely is an ancient woman of greek-roman period. And the horses stamp is the most beautiful horses stamp I have ever seen. The horses seem to be ancient greek. If you remember the name/brand of the stamp, I would love to tell me and buy it. Thank you so much for joining again my challenge at AJJ. Kisses, my friend.

Oh my goodness, Erika. I am in LOVE with that amazing journal page. It is stunning. Almost ethereal. I love, love it. It's a great entry for Mia's theme at Art Journal Journey, too.

That's also a lovely tag. Really has a vintage almost native American feel to it.

Well, I am such a fan of A&C that you could ot fail to interest me with these images. I love that figure with her head down on her knees and that wing is so beautifully coloured. I've used the figure but never used that wing and now you have inspired me to get it out and use it.
I am impressed that you have done this on the denim page in your journal - those gold spots look fabulous, and yes, they are similar to the ones we see on the wings of a butterfly.
Love how you married all those different images to make the one piece - it works so well.
Hugs, Neet xx
