T Stands for More of Forillon Nation Park-Quebec

     Hi everyone. Happy new week to you.  And Happy T Day to everyone who stops by from BLeubeard's and Elizabeth's blog. I'm back with another travel post today from my September road trip to Quebec. I'm still in Forillon National Park like I shared in last week's post (Forillon Part 1), but today's photos are from the south side of the park.

      Once again I apologize for the longer post too.

  One little adventure we had was when we checked out some fishermen who were on a dock. We go mackerel fishing from our boat, and we use multiple hook lines, so you can potentially catch up to 6 fish at one time. Of course you're lucky if you get 2 or 3 at one time, or sometimes even on an entire fishing trip. The first thing we noticed was the different regulations for fishing here. And I learned a new word. When I fish I am a pecheur. 😏

      The biggest part of this adventure however was not the type of hook and line, but who was taking advantage of the fishermen's skill  to grab themselves a little lunch.

I was able to get a great shot of the cormorant.

We also had some more beautiful coastline views.

     There were also hundreds of gannets, a northern seabird, flying around Gaspe Bay. I was happy since I couldn't get to the gannet colony on the island the day before, and it's only on very rare occasions we see one from our boat as we are a little too far south of their usual range. They are really handsome birds.

     There was a small museum too.  Hyman and Sons General store was built in 1864, and according to the ranger I spoke with, it stayed open until 1967. Not only did they have a fascinating exhibit, but we learned a lot of history of the area where the park is located.

And those boxes at the bottom, could be filled with tea.  I had to look it up, but they still make  Salada tea. That's drink one reference for T this week. 

These barrels in the next photo would be filled with dried and salted cod, caught in the Gaspe and then sent out to other places in the world. The front barrel is stamped Naples because they were the biggest buyer of the Gaspe's salt cod. 

     Later in the day we went for a walk down to a waterfall. The maple tree leaves had changed color and a lot had fallen, so I thought this photo was appropriate since Canada's symbol is the red maple leaf.

    And since this is T day, I'm going to share another drink reference. This one isn't very exciting, but here's the little store down the street from our cabin. We stopped here and grabbed a frozen pizza for supper one night. It wasn't the most exciting meal, but it filled our tummies while put up our feet and relaxed. 

If you look carefully at the windows on the left hand side you can see some drink posters in the windows. 

And by relaxing I didn't mean just my husband and myself either.❤😏 Here are my bed buddies that night.

Weekend Chatter

     Hi everyone. Happy weekend to you. I hope yours is going well. Mine has been busy with some outdoor chores. The yard is in the process of being cleaned up and the gardens are almost prepped for  winter. Friday was very windy and many more leaves came down. 🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂 However it was windy enough that all the leaves covering the driveway blew into the woods. ❤

What's very exciting is that with some warm days in October, I still have quite a few roses blooming.

It's almost time to pick my  brussel sprouts too.

    Enough said about my yard and gardens. Today I want to share some art for a couple of challenges. I'll start with another journal page for Wendy's On, In or by the Sea challenge over at Art Journal Journey

 

     This page is in my small journal, and I painted the background a blue-grey color before stenciling the navigation/map line in a metallic black paint. I also lightly rubbed a bit of black ink on parts of the page. I added some punch out and fussy cut images, and then added a few little half pearls just to the right of the sailboat.  It was a pretty simple page to make, and I hope you like it.

    I also have a tag to share for Michele's Day of the Dead challenge at Tag Tuesday. I was really happy with not only how my tag came out, but how it photographed also.

     I used a set of rubber stamps from Pink Ink Designs for all the images. I also did some coloring with markers and a white pen as well as adding a bit of gold sparkles.  I love the  background, which started with a big mistake and turned out to be perfect.  I decided to use a large envelope that had some fun scratchy lines on the inner side. When I glued it down on my tag, and when it had a sat for a few minutes (or more), I realized I had stupidly glued down the scratchy side I wanted to use as my background.  I peeled it off, and where the glue had dried, some of the paper didn't peel off. I think it was a dumb mistake with great results as I really like the way it peeled away. I will definitely need to do this again and hope it works as well as it did this time. 

    I should mention I also used some light pink ink over the entire tag. I did this just before I added the glitter glue dots.

     Lastly (sorry, long post I realize) I thought I'd share a photo from something my husband did last week.  I wish I could have been there with him.

     My husband is a civil engineer who specializes in airports, and when he was visiting one of his clients last week, he was able to go visit the biologist who keeps the runways clear of birds. I guess they put out traps to capture the birds, and then they are removed and brought to a safer place. (Safer for everyone, the bird and the people in the plane.) 

      This day they had caught a juvenile red tail hawk. I think it's exciting how close  he was able to get to the hawk. According to the biologist they usually capture a bird a day. A bird a day! That's  a lot of birds. I know a lot of raptors love airports for all the open land, but I wouldn't have thought they'd be quite so many birds.

    I also learned that they band the bird to keep track of it, and only about 5% of them return to the airport. Usually the ones who return are older birds who have been in the area for some time. I would imagine all airports with either commercial or military planes need to do this since all airports are on more open land.

It's November!

Hi everyone. Happy new month. It's already November. Where did October go to?

      It's time for a new challenge over at Art Journal Journey since it's a new month. Let me first once again thank Alison for being such a super host, and also let me thank everyone who joined in. ❤

      For November, our  host is the talented Wendy, who (if you stop by AJJ frequently) you know from her blog Wendy's Arts and Craft Journal. Wendy has hosted for us many times before, and it's a fun theme she's chosen for this month. As Wendy mentioned on the AJJ blog page she is trying to avoid winter, so her theme this month is

 On, In or By The Sea

      There are so many ways to go with this theme, from tropical beaches to under the sea. And even if you don't want to avoid winter, you can do a winter ocean scene.

   My first page comes from my love  of beach walking. I tried to create a background that reminded me of the spottiness and colors of our local beaches.  Then I used a definition stamp and stamped it on my page in a couple of colors of ink. I die cut several beach finds (shells, sand dollars, sea stars) from some printed paper. Finally I finished my page with the seashell postage mark and also the sea quote. 

     I hope you're  inspired to join Wendy this month. Please remember we only accept art journaling, but that art journaling can be of any type. And I hate to have to say this every month, but no cards, ATCs or other forms of art please! 👍

     Early last week we had some gorgeous October weather, so I took the dogs to the beach for a walk. I thought I'd finish my post with some sandy views that  inspired my page today.
