Hi everyone. Happy almost Christmas to you.
Today will be my last post until after this weekend's Christmas holiday, but I wanted to share this gingerbread house journal page I made with you. I'm quite happy how it came out, especially since I was just randomly cutting paper to make it.
Most of today's page is drawn and fussy cut by me. The only thing I die cut was the mini gingerbread people.
I used brown craft paper for the gingerbread structure, including the roof, as it looks like bakes gingerbread. I did however cover the roof in some of this designed paper, which reminded me of the candy you might use to make the roofing shingles on a gingerbread house. The doors and window are colored with paint to give them their color, much as you might melt hard sugar candies or isomalt sugar to create the glass. When I finished, I sprayed the page with some white sparkle ink.
I am linking up to Valerie's When One Door Closes Another One Opens challenge at Art Journal Journey If you can't tell I've had lots of fun making houses (still some to come) this month. My dad was an architect, and as a kid I used to draw houses and house plans using his tools. He'd look over my design and tell me what would work and what wouldn't. My dad didn't design houses himself as he worked on a lot of public buildings like schools and medical arts structures, but he would still tell me if my house design would create a nice looking home, or not. I haven't drawn houses for a long time, and this has been fun.
I've made several gingerbread houses over the years, and you would think this year, being home, I might try my hand it another one, but somehow this month has really gotten away from me. I'll put it on next year's list and see how things are going then. Smile.
If you celebrate the Christmas holiday, I hope you have a wonderful day. And even if you don't, have a wonderful weekend.
Merry Christmas to you from me.

That's beautiful, Erika!
Your gingerbread house looks wonderful, Erika. Great job! I will look forward to reconnecting with you after the holidays which I hope will be very joyful for you and your family. Many hugs, David
Hi Erika, this is such a pretty piece, I love gingerbread, and the houses are always beautiful. I usually bake cake and gingerbread for Christmas, but I'm on my own this time so no point. Have a great day, enjoy your Christmas celebration with your lovely family, and once again, thanks so much for all your support for my challenge! Hugs, Valerie
How I wish I had bought a kit to make a Gingerbread House now I see this one of yours. I love the roof as I imagine it is covered with red and chocolate covered Smarties. I love a tube of Smarties and it is a long time since I had one so now I am longing.
Love your gingerbread people, I have got as far as taking the cutter out and now need to find a suitable recipe as it is a while since I made them. Why do I get the urge to bake when there is so much to do.
Thank you for all the memories tied up in your page for me - I love it.
A Merry and Happy Christmas to you and yours.
Hugs, Neet xx
Nice! It reminds me of those Gingerbread Christmas Village displays I've seen through the years.
A wonderful page Erika!
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas.
Hugs,
Alison
I'm going backwards as this seems to be allowing me to comment. (Not all of your posts do????? Blaming blogger) I love your Gingerbread house. I used to make several each Christmas. Some with classes at school and one at home.I don't think I would have the patience now. Love the 'candy' roof and all that 'icing' snow! .
Have a wonderful time this Christmas, Hugs, Chrisx
After I wrote my comment here I went to other posts on your blog - not one of them would come up with a comment box to write in...so...I love the ambitious knitting project, your baking, you fabulous pages, the photos you have taken and your tag.I hope your Christmas goes well and your Daughter's fiancé likes his stocking, Hugs, Chrisxx
The month got away from me, too, and I have no idea why or how. But merry and happy -- enjoy what is left!
That is a beautiful gingerbread house, Erika. I like it a lot.
Have a wonderful Christmas!
A few weeks back, the Food Network had a series of gingerbread shows where contestants vied for money (I think it was $25 K) for the best gingerbread house. Yours would rival the best of them. This is SO clever and well done. I'm amazed that about a year ago I wouldn't have even known what isomalt is. I love your gingerbread house and your design, too. I am so pleased to learn your father was an architect. I can see why this house will stand the test of time. Thanks for this incredible entry at AJJ using Valerie's theme.
Have a wonderful Christmas with your family, dear.
Yes, time runs - so nice to see your house, it makes me want to call family (but it´s too early in time). Have a Merry Christmas, enjoy!
I love gingerbread too, especially when it's baking, always reminds me of the Christmas season. Love how you collaged your house using the brown paper, it looks good enough to eat. Wishing you and yours a magical Christmas sending the warmest of wishes from my house to yours. May the season be Merry & Bright.
Hugs Tracey xx
