Hi everyone. Happy Thursday to you. Slowly spring is coming. We're back into some chilly chilly temps at night way below freezing. Brrr. But at least the ground is about 85-90% snow free. And today we have no inclement weather in the forecast either. 👍
Today I have a spring journal page for Chris's challenge at Art Journal Journey. I am also linking up to challenge #124 at Creative Artiste Mixed Media challenge blog since I have used more than 3 types of media on my page.
My page started with me using up some left over blue and green paints. It really was just a wipe off my brush page but it had potential. To pull it together I took a brick stencil and some white gesso.
The actual flowers are from a punch out set of images from Art by Marlene. I arranged them, glued them down and then used 2 different green paint pens to make the stems and leaves. To enhance the flowers I took some yellow daisy cloth trim and clipped the daisies into separate pieces. I glued a daisy down in the center of each flower and then added a small confetti piece.
I also had a die cut on my work table that I hadn't used. It's the shape of a card you'd wrap threads or yarn around. I didn't wrap anything around to but I outlined the edges with a white paint pen. Then I inked those edges with a blue ink pad similar in color to some of the blue on the background.
I stamped the butterflies and quote. I also added a a bit of black and white color to the butterflies to make them stand out more.
If you stop by frequently you might have seen the photos of my jar of tulips. Sadly they never bloom very long, but even as the blooms start to go, I think they look pretty cool. They also make great photo fodder. Here's a few more recent photos I have taken of them.
And if I brighten up the photos a bit, here's what I get.
Have a wonderful Thursday and (if your an occasional visitor) have a great rest of the week.
...Erika, you sure got a lot of milage out of your Costco tulips.
ReplyDeleteI like the contrast of the bold, bright flowers against the wonderfully painted green brick wall.
ReplyDeleteThe early arrival and quick demise of tulip blooms has made me happy-then-sad all my life!
ReplyDeleteGood morning Such a beautiful post I enjoyed it
ReplyDeleteIf one does not like flowers they are not to be trusted!
ReplyDeleteHow long have you those tulips? They are still very healthy and pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love the cheery colors in your art. Tulips are pretty when they are in perfect bloom but they fascinate me much more when they start to move on, artistically drape their petals, better reveal their inner life. I love them.
ReplyDeleteYour pretty page is a reminder that the Vernal Equinox is tomorrow! Cold and sunny today.
ReplyDeleteYour page background makes me think of stone walls on a frosty morning. It works well with the flowers as a spring page, considering the back and forth of the weather at this time of year. Those tulips are still beautiful for sure.
ReplyDeleteErika eu amo flores, que lindo, desejo uma feliz quinta-feira bjs.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous flowers!
ReplyDeleteCharming page that really goes well with Chris's theme at AJJ. It's always sad when the tulips enter that stage. At least it is for me.
ReplyDeleteYour page looks so cheerful! I love how you layered everything and added those little daisies, makes the flowers pop. The tulip photos are gorgeous too; spring really feels like it’s on its way!
ReplyDeleteOh, that is a beautiful page, Erika, and yes, very spring like. I'm sorry for your low temperatures. It's quite the opposite here. My French lilac has been blooming for two weeks and it's now slowly fading. I'm still weeding like a maniac, it never seems to end.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Debra. Those bright flowers with the green back works soooo well!
ReplyDeleteThese tulips are absolutely wonderful. The first picture is too!
ReplyDeleteAnother lovely floral post Erika, can never see too many flowers both on artwork as here and those via the camera. I ventured out an took a few earlier after the frost went, hopefully share over the weekend.

These are lovely, flowers and that pretty page :)
ReplyDeleteA lovely page and flowers.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Erika, I love your journal page! The flowers are beautifully bright and cheery, and I really like the addition of your fabric daisies--they're such lovely pops of texture. The brick background is a well-chosen solid backdrop. (And thank you for sharing this over at Creative Artiste. 🙂) Your orchids are gorgeous, enjoy their beauty while they last! Anita xx
