Hi everyone. Happy new week to you. I'm here with my post for T day over at bleubeard's and Elizabeth's blog. I thought I had scheduled this post for later this evening, but I guess I didn't so it's up a bit early. However it's not that early where I have to delete it.
Last week we had some lovely weather, and I spent much of it working outside. But on Friday one of my friends asked me if I wanted to go to the senior project presentations over at the University of New Hampshire. Graduating seniors work on some sort of research project depending on their major. They then create a display board and at a selected time, different majors display their project boards. Visitors can walk around and view the boards, plus the students are there to talk about their projects or answer your questions. I remember going to one of these when my daughter was about to graduate, and since she was getting a degree in civil engineering, her presentation time was with her school of engineering. This past Friday was when the biology/biological science students were on display, and so I was really interested to go (since my undergrad degree was in biology and I taught high school biology for 36 years).
It was fascinating to see what some of these students were working on. My friend's former student had asked her to attend, and his project was in immunology. I learned some new things and was happy I remembered as much my pre-retirement life as I did. 👍 And boy, biology has sure come a long way since I was in college. Grin.
I won't bore you with the details of the presentations, but afterwards my friend and I took a walk around campus and the town of Durham (where we parked and where the University is lcoated). We even happened upon the University art museum where some student art was on display. I thought I would share some art today since I am sure many of you aren't interested in the Hedgehog signalling pathway (the name of a human cell development pathway I learned a little bit about at the presentations) or other biological process.
Here's a few murals that were downtown where we parked.

I wish I did better at biology in school :-// The murals are very beautiful. Those potato tots look so addictive.
I like that first mural.
Lovely murals and exhibit. Never seen sweet potato tots, great idea.
...Erika, thanks for sharing the colorful, upbeat art this morning. I wish you a Merry Month of May!
This sounds like a great day -- good murals, time with a friend, and wonderful art. I'd love to see the costumes (reminded me of Isabelle de Boracheve's idea of paper costumes). The presentations would be interesting, too. And lunch looks tasty. I've never had sweet potato tots either. Interesting idea; I think I'd like them!
What a wonderful display of art and how awesome to be able to see from the new talented artist out there! TFS
Sounds like you had a fun day. Art and Science what can be a better combo? Oh, add lunch out. Sweet Tater Tots. I've never seen those. Will have to keep a lookout. I hope you're enjoying the weather today. I'm washing windows and changing curtains in the kitchen and living room/dining room. I still have the Christmas curtains up!
Loving all the art. Your lunch looks delicious.
Wow, there is some great art work here. Thank you for sharing.
I'm sure that the presentations were very interesting, Erika, especially when you have taught biology and most probably understand more about it than a "normal" person. Some of the murals are really cool and I also like the museum exhibits that you show here. I'm not a big fan of BLT sandwiches, but the sweet potato tots look delicious! Happy T day - Carola
I did enjoy seeing all the art on your post.
Pleased you enjoyed the sweet potato tots.
Have a good week.
All the best Jan
How lovely hanging out with you today enjoying this beautiful art period you must be so proud of your daughter! Aloha friend
You would not have bored me with more details on biology!
And of course I wiki-ed "Hedgehog signalling pathway" - a tough one! " polypeptide ligand"?! And "Mammals have three Hedgehog homologues"? All the things I do NOT know (so far, very interesting!!!! Sad "cancer" pops up so often...)
Beautiful murals! You could share with Sami?
YES, "HOPE IS A DISCIPLINE"! So true.
over (Dover)? I think the little place in Great Britain where I was at age 14 was named Dover, too.
Fat Dog Cafe??? You really have me laughing here! And hungry, too!
Have a wonderful day, you made mine, hugs! (Studies are stupid right now)
I can imagine you were really enjoying the biology exhibits. As I would the engineering exhibits (from days gone by)!
Loved the blue cat. Lots of great art. And the murals were fabulous, too.
Your sandwich looks interesting, but I want the sweet potato tots. Thanks for taking us to the biology exhibits, the great art and murals, the BLT, and your water with us for T this Tuesday, dear Erika.
Of all three kids that went to uni, I only attended one presentation. It was Tracey's who did Fine Art. I would have like to see the Biology projects. I bet they were interesting. But the art you showed was fun and colourful.
Your sweet potato tots look very yummy. I've tried making sweet potato fries in the air fryer, without much success. They weren't crispy.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Pinguin Lessons. It was interesting that it was in the middle of a political situation that I was very much aware of at the time. I remember 1976 well as I gave birth that year. Years later the Dutch crown prince (now king) married the daughter of a man who was in the government of Jorge Videla (daddy was minister of agriculture I believe) , and caused a lot of controversy.
The penguin becomes a confidente and almost a therapist. (as people talk to the penguin who can't answer, and unburden themselves). Very sweet. Steve Coogan is an excellent actor. He plays an ex-pat teacher with 'baggage'. He conveys the sadness of the character so well. But there are lots of funny moments too and I really liked the film.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca
I am sure that the students completed their projects with pride, and I wish them well in their future careers. All the best - David
If I recall right, we visited this university art museum years ago, but after reading this post, Erika, if may be time to revisit the area. Thanks for sharing all the great projects. Patrick wojld have enjoyed the science displays as well.
I love to see murals — more and more of them seem to be appearing in many cities. I’ve seen quite a ew on my current visit to Houston and Galveston, Texas.
Good art.

Wow those murals are fantastic, I also like sweet potato but never had it like that. Happy belated T day!
