Hi everyone. I hope May has started off nicely for you. It's Friday, and this past week flew by, but it was a busy week for me. Today I am sharing a post from May 2018 with some faces for Nicole's Friday Face Off , Gillena's Friday Lunch Break , and also a second look for Bleubeard's and Elizabeth's Second on the Second. Because at Second on the Second means we share a post from the past, none of these are new images, but I don't think they have to be for any of these challenges.
Back in 2018 I went to Japan with my school as part of a sister city visit, and it was just about this time when we returned. I can't believe this trip was 7 years ago, but traveling to Japan was definitely a trip of a lifetime for me. This post is from late May of that year, but it was fun to look back. You can find the original post here: Mount Fuji.
Our sister city is Nichinan, Japan, which is located about as far south on the main islands of this country as you can get. After we spent several days there doing some official business plus visiting the area, we flew to Osaka and spent some time in Kyoto. Our last leg of the trip was to take the bullet train (shinkansen) from Kyoto to Tokyo. On the way we passed a great view of Mount Fuji. From what I understand this mountain is often cloud covered, and we were really lucky to be able to see it. I looked it up and I read that the mountain is usually only visible between 100-150 days out of the year.

...what a trip that was! Erika, I wish you a Merry Month of May.
The kimono is so comfortable looking, those people in the final photo look perfect.
LOL, "horrible"!!!! My Dad sold so many SEIKO-watches (he was also a watch maker) he got a free trip to Japan and brought Kimonos for all of us (and more items I still have).
Carnival. I was sent to school in mine. Face: white, lips: red. And you can only take mini-steps in a Kimono!!! 2nd grade, I still have a pic! I even had a black, Japanese wig!
I HATE being the POV, and I was. I was 6 years old...
Good you have better memories, hugs and to a nice day, I´ll dream of another country ;-)
Hokkaido in the winter is my dream. All the best - David
Didn't you try their traditional kimono, not even for a picture? The panda cakes are too cute to eat!!
I like the panda cakes.
Loving this post, Erika, and all the photos from Japan (and your art, too!). Have we been following each other for more than seven years? Wow! I know I started reading your blog long before your trip but putting it into years kind of blows my mind! I'm glad, though, in every way!
Japan is so lovely and your photos are awesome ~ hugs,
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

I remember every bit of your trip to Japan, I can't believe it's been seven years. Yes, there is a lot more you could have covered. What a great way to look back. Thanks so much for this second look on the 2nd, Erika.
You and I are on the same page with Japan. I went in 2009. My friend won a beading contest and the prize was a trip to Japan from the beading company. She invited me. It was a trip of a lifetime for me as well. We had 2 weeks with the interpreter from the bead company and the family took us to so many wonderful place and ate food that I will never forget. Then we took a week for ourselves and traveled the bullet train to Kyoto. The language seemed very easy for me to pick up and I thought I want to live here. Had I been single I would have come home packed my bags and gone back. LOL Thank you for sharing your trip with FFO and bringing back some memories for me.
Wow, that would be such an amazing trip to take for sure! Looks like it was such a informative experience! Your page is so cool! Love your mount fuji view in your mind for sure!
I can easily understand that this trip was the trip of a lifetime, Erika. You certainly got a lot of impressions and your art, by the way, is beautiful. My husband visited Japan 26 years ago and came back with quite some fun stuff for our daughter who had just turned one at that time. I have never been, but I wouldn't say "no" to a trip there.
To answer your question about the Kouign Amann being the "fattiest pastry" I ever ate - it's made with layers and layers of butter, so the fat was practically dripping and our hands were completely greasy after we had finished eating it. Even the paper napkin we received it on didn't do anything. And yes, it's also quite heavy in calories, no wonder with all that butter. Have a lovely weekend - Carola
So happy that you got to see Mt. Fuji. Quite an impressive mountain, isn't it! The panda cakes are adorable.

Lovely art and memories!
Dear Erika, oh, you truly had a fantastic view of Mt. Fuji. I've also heard and read that it often hides behind clouds. And you can guess three times why I'm so interested in this topic 😉😎. I was very happy to see your photos of Japan!
Oh yes, life is beautiful - and it's doubly beautiful when you can enjoy retirement like we do, both the little things and the bigger things that bring us joy.
All the best, Traude

PS: Sooo cute the panda cakes!
What a unique experience for you! It is always interesting to see the culture of other countries. Mine have only been on TV, but to actually experience it like you did had to have been fascinating!
I'd love to go to Japan, we were even looking into it this year but it's not to be.
I enjoyed seeing these photographs.
The Panda cakes look good.
Enjoy your weekend.
All the best Jan
