Weekend

Hi everyone. I hope you're having a nice weekend. We're into a bit of a wet spell, which will be kind of nice if  it doesn't last for days on end because 1) I won't have to water the things I've planted and 2) it will give me a chance to get the house picked up and do some art. Especially the do some art part. 😏

First today I want to share a journal page for Neet's It Must Have Wings challenge at Art Journal Journey

I've been busy working outside a lot lately, so my page is  kind of a quick one. I chose a page in my ledger journal that I wiped some excess paint off of a brush. You can see that mustard color right in the middle. The rest of the background is actually a piece of deli paper that I worked on while making several  other pages. I love all the marks and blots of color on it. I tore the paper and layered it around the page.

Thank goodness for these Art by Marleen punch out images. 😏 They work great for when I don't have a lot of art time.  Except for the clouds (which I hand drew and fussy cut) I used a lot of images and arranged them to make the design. You can see the 3 birds I added. The sun is actually a flower image that I fussy cut down to just the face.  I used some yellow paint in the area to make it sunny and bright as the sky is behind the sun, and then I added this image. Afterwards I added some sparkles to the petals to make them sunnier and brighter. I also used  white and  black pens to add a few details.

And here's a few photos of my yard "excitement" as of late. I have a pair of Eastern Bluebirds nesting in my bluebird house. I've been watching them go in and out for a couple of weeks now.

I took this next one with my camera rather than my phone.

And I saw my first Baltimore oriole for the season too.

I was out working  in the yard and so I took these on my phone, but I wish I had had my camera out there with me.

My weeping cherry tree (named Al after my Dad as it was a memorial gift from my co-workers when my dad passed) has been blooming. In fact it's past its peak now and the leaves will be popping out soon. Here's a few views of when it was looking gorgeous.

It's a bit strange looking tree  as during an ice storm several years ago it split at the top, so it hasn't really grown very tall but instead outward. I rather like its uniqueness.  And sadly the blossoms never last long enough.

I am also linking up to Gillena's Sunday Smiles.

Have a wonderful rest of your weekend and start to the new week.

So many wonderful signs of spring, Erika. The bluebirds are exceptionally exciting. We had our first hummingbird at the feeder two days ago, and yesterday at a local park Northern Parula, Ovenbird, Black-and-White Warbler, Nashville Warbler, Blackburnian Warbler and Willow Flycatcher. Spring is here! All the best - David

Adorable, Erika!! I really like how you use your scrap pages and pieces, and the flower-turned-sun is so creative! Love all of your yard photos--kudos to your oh-so-resilient tree. Wishing you a creative May! Anita xx

Your yard is very popular among the animals :-)) We had a few really HOT summer days early this week, now we are back to 7C and rainy..The page looks so jolly and beautiful. I like esp. the two birds at the right bottom and that poisonous mushroom.

Good morning Awesome art page-and I love that you have bluebirds-how wonderful to be able to watch them in your garden. This year I only saw one hummingbird that was passing through and no orioles-sigh some years we have lots of orioles but not a one-I miss them
Happy new week hugs Kathy

I love how your tree has split giving it that unusual shape but isn't it beautiful. It is like a fountain spewing blossoms all around the ground beneath. I think your dad had a hand in this happening.
Gosh, you have some beautiful coloured birds. I only see black and brown ones near me apart from the various tits we get. Blue tits are my favourite along with the Blackbird.
Your journal page is so full of colour and there is so much to see. I love the Art by Marlene figures, they are always fun and make one smile.
I admire all the work you out into the sunshine. What a beautiful one it is and I bet it is even more beautiful in real life. as you can see the sparkle.
Once again you have used a ledger page and it is hardly noticeable with all that is going on there. Love the flowers on the left above the mushroom and a spotty mushroom is always a firm favourite with me.
Such a fabulous page Erika, thanks for joining me again at AJJ.
Hugs, Neet xx

Bluebirds are nasty and mean if they think their young are being threatened. They've been known to attack dogs. I know that for a fact.

Isn't deli paper great? I love the transparency. Your bird for Neet's theme at AJJ turned out great.

What a unique weeping cherry tree. Hope you are enjoying today.

Your birds are brilliant, both in color and in the mere fact of their presence. These are two I've never seen in person. How wonderful to have the blues nesting. And your tree is gorgeous. That's a beautiful way to honor the loss of your dad. What a thoughtful gift.

Your page is cute especially the birds and the toadstool. Wow on the birds! I only saw a couple of bluebirds back in Feb. or March. Al is absolutely stunning. What a thoughtful gift from your co-workers. Rain predicted most of the week. Stay productive and dry
