Perfectly Imperfect

Hi everyone. I hope you're having a lovely weekend.

Today I have a journal page for Mia's Background challenge at Art Journal Journey Mia challenged us to make our own backgrounds, and for my page, I once again made a  the background  that is also the page.

My background is made with a lot of layering. I started in my Dina Wakely ledger journal by stamping the green background. I used Hero Arts' Acanthus background stamp. It's such a pretty image, and it even covers up the writing on the ledger page.

I then took a sheet of Gelli printed deli paper and tore it into pieces. I used matte media to glue those down. I also took some  washi tape (by TH) and added that to the inner edge of my page since it's hard stamping with a large (approximately 6x6 inch) stamp so close to the binding.

Once that dried I used an old Magenta flower image and white embossing powder. I heat set the powder, and there was my page. I finished by adding the quote (a sticker from a Studio Light quote booklet).  What I like about this page, besides the page itself, is that I could add something to it in the future if I so desire.

I am also linking this page up to Creative Artiste Mixed Media challenge, challenge #119. The theme there is always anything goes, but you must use at least 3 types of media.

Let me also share a few views from one of my last mornings working at the lake. It was a cold morning, but  the smoke coming off the water  made some beautiful views.

I can't decide which of these first 2 photos  I like better. What do you think?

Unless you're a lover of cold weather, I hope your weekend isn't chilly enough for smoke to form on the water.   Enjoy!

The mist on the lake looks quite sublime. Supposed to be quite chilly here today. Good for long walks and I have two of them on my schedule today. Have a great weekend. All the best - David

The first landscape photo is my favourite because it has a green boundary on the right hand margin. Water from one side of the photo to the other seems not like a lake.

The 2nd one is my favourite! The 3rd and 4th are fantastic too, Erika. Did you take them with your phone? Amazing, how advanced the phone camera has become!

Your page looks luminous! I like the first photo best but every photo is lovely. We had mist too -- it's bloody cold up here now, unseasonably so. Rick is getting a ride to Pittsfield and his brother's because of the rain. I'm relieved!

I love the last photo the best, although they're all lovely and so peaceful looking. It's feeling a bit autumnal here. I'm grateful. Have a great weekend!

I like the first lake picture because of the reflection of the sun in the water along with light streaks. Like heaven is reflected on earth. The ring cloud on the second picture reminds me of the Magenta flower on your journal page. Stay safe today.

Those lake photos are amazing ... the wispy clouds and the steam coming up ... I like the first two best ... and maybe the top one. It's just eye-catching. Beautiful there. Nice artwork too.

Since you asked for a vote on the first 2 photos, Erika, I would select the first although admittedly I like the last one the most 😏. Our weekend will be in the mid 70s with rain later, so rather humid.

I prefer the first photo as the sun is centered and reflected; the last one is your shot for the mist. And that's a great art page, the white embossing powder makes the flowers pop. Keep practicing and you'll be the master of embossing in a journal for sure. I'm always a sucker for watching the powder melt. Kinda like when I first saw the jump to light speed in the original Star Wars. Girl, I was gobsmacked by that for days...weeks, lol.

You put a great deal into that background. I was most impressed. Loved the quote, too. And that embossing was awesome. A fabulous background for Mia's theme at AJJ.

I can see why you love this page in your journal. Hard to believe it is a ledger page covered up with all, these beautiful images.
The white embossing certainly brings it to life and works so well against the background of green.
A fab page to start of Mia's theme at AJJ.
Hugs, Neet xx

A fabulous page. You've created great depth with all the layering and textures. The white embossed flowers add a pretty detail.
Thank you for joining in with our September challenge "Anything Mixed Media Goes" at Creative Artiste Mixed Media. Good luck! x
