Hi everyone. I hope you are having a lovely weekend.
Today I want to share my last journal page for Mia's Background challenge at Art Journal Journey. I'll also be linking up to Gillena's Sunday Smiles.
Thank you Mia for hosting again this year. You know we really appreciate it. ❤And thank you everyone who joined in. ❤ This past month I focused on making my backgrounds more of a part of my page rather than just making a background to put my page on. It was a nice challenge to change up my thinking and approach a page a little bit differently.
I found a page in my ledger journal where I had glued down 3 cloth hexagon pieces and then had done nothing else to the page. I decided to finish off this page.
I started with an orange ink pad and a smaller design image rubber stamp. I decided to go grungy and do some overlapping in spots. Then I took a piece of felt cut like lace that's been sitting in my stash for way too long. I cut it to fill in the edge by the book's binding where my mounted rubber stamp wouldn't fit. I also cut the felt to work around the edges of my cloth hexagons. Once I glued it down and that was dry I used an orange Sharpie to color in the flowers that were in the lace.
To finish the page I wanted to add something that wouldn't interfere with the background. I took 3 black and white stem/leaf images that I also had in my stash. I went with no color because I wanted to keep the orange on my background the focal color. I went with leaves also because there's a few flowers on the page in the felt lace and also in a couple of the hexagons so the leaves felt appropriate. To finish the page I used a sticker quote.
The orange in my journal page reminds me of autumn, which really has started to take on some color in my area. Here's a few photos from a walk I took Friday morning.
That's all for me today. We're having a bit of a warm up this weekend, which is nice. Have a super rest of your weekend.

Beautiful site – I love the color scheme and the choice of materials with the colorful fabrics and the handcrafted lace.
Well done.
Greetings to you and thank you for the beautiful autumn photos you share.
Hugs, Viola
Yesterday I led a walk along the north shore of Lake Ontario and the temperature flirted with 28 degrees C. That hardly seems like fall weather! All the best - David
It reminds me of Autumn as well with those rich colours, lovely looking at your photos and the Lab, we have a couple of them here as well.

The 3 cloth hexagon pieces would be great for some homemade jam package :-)) The last photo is so beautiful.
The red and orange leaves look so special, I wonder if they could be kept in a vase without fading.
Your page reminds me of a cozy quilt though it won't be in use today. Fall really came early this year. Hey Pete! Boop your nose!
Beautiful Fall photos, wish you a happy sunday.
...Erika, I wish you an Outstanding October!
Lovely page and stunning fall leaves already. They are a background in themselves -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
Our leaves are changing every day, and the colors look deep and beautiful. I love your photos!
Your autumn is looking lovely! We're in for a pretty nice week here, too. Yesterday in the 80s. I'll take it as long as I can get it!
Colorido, otoñal y bello. Me encanta
This post has such a delightful autumn vibe and your page makes me think of sitting in a comfy chair, hot beverage nearby, doing some English paper piecing (the hexagons) to make a quilt, whilst looking out the window at the colorful leaves. Wonderful! Hope your new week starts off well!
Thanks for sharing your Autum motifs a d lovely journal page
Happy you linked to SindaySmiles
Much♡love
That is a lovely page.
I did enjoy your Fall/Autumn photographs ... beautiful.
All the best Jan
What a fabulous way to end the month and Mia's theme. Those hexagons are awesome and the orange and black really make the page feel like autumn. Thanks for sharing this with us at AJJ.
Great autumn photos and a good shot of Pete, too.
Beautiful art and wonderful photos.
Absolutely love this page! And with you autumn looks nearly good. Hugs and thank you!
I see a quilt-y look to your page, which goes nicely with an Autumn theme. Anyone who doesn't have an Autumn quilt throw handy needs to get one! :-) All we get is brown leaf shedding with the infrequent little burst of yellows and reds later on. So I'm always happy to see actual leaf-turning. Hoping you get some purples this year! Happy new week, xox
Your journal page is beautifully designed!
It was so nice and warm until the evening where I live, and the sun is shining. Great photos of your early autumn!
Have a great start to the week.Hugs Elke
Not a fan of cold weather, but I do miss fall in New England. Have a good week!
Your gorgeous page is definitely reminiscent of autumn, Erika! How wonderful that you're approaching your backgrounds differently--I'm on the other end of the spectrum, I'm so involved in creating the background that the focal elements then become things to scramble around for. 😂 I need to try changing my approach too, but I'm sure that'll take years. 😉 Take care, and continue to enjoy the lovely autumn weather. Anita xx
