T Stands for Chicken and Waffles

Hi everyone, including those of you who stop by  Bleubeard's and Elizabeth's blog  for our weekly T day. I hope the new week has started off in a good way for you. We are having a few lovely cooler days after last week's heat wave, so I hope to be able to get outside a bit more. We also have hurricane Erin coming up the coast. It's not supposed to really affect us except that there will probably be small craft warnings and high seas so we may not be able to get boating this week. (Much to my husband's disappointment.)

Not much to report on since last week it was too hot to do much of anything. I did work my 2 mornings at the lake, and this photo from last Monday at 7 AM already looks  hot and steamy   I think it was about 72 degrees F/22 degrees C at that point and our temperatures went up at into the 90's degrees F/ 30's degrees C.

Compare that to this morning's 7 AM work photo when it was only 54 degrees F/ 12 degrees C.

You can tell it was much crisper without all the humidity.

Swimming isn't allowed at the boat ramp, and it is one thing you can quickly be fired for if you're caught. Sadly with last week's heat it was tough to be sitting next to some clean cool water (Merrymeeting comes in usually second for one of the cleanest water in the state) when the temperature is up around 90 degrees/ around 32 degrees C. But ha-ha- I managed. 😉

It was my husband's uncooperative sister's week at my mother-in-law's house on the lake, so I couldn't even go up for a swim there either. 😈That was OK because there was some cyanobacteria growing in the water. According to the agent who came to check it out, it was probably OK for people to swim in if you didn't go under water, but you definitely didn't want your dogs drinking it. Cyanobacteria used to be called blue green algae, but it's actually a photosynthetic bacteria. Some of them release toxins that can cause severe gastro-intestinal issues, and we didn't need that in the house, especially with the dogs.

At the end of the week the weather turned nicer for a couple of days, so my husband and  I visited my Mother-in-law at her new care facility in Portland, Maine on Saturday. Afterwards we stopped at Costco. In their prepared food section, I got all excited because I noticed they had a chicken and waffles meal. Every now and again I order chicken and waffles if we're at a restaurant that serves it, and when I do I always get a bit of eye rolling from my husband. He'd never tried it, so it was time he did. We picked up one of their packages and decided we'd have some of it that night for supper.

This photo is also my ticket to T this week since you can see his glass of milk. I think Costco did a nice job with their prepared meal. The waffles were crispy; the chicken had a bit of a kick; and it even came with some real maple syrup. (And hot honey, but I'm a purist when it comes to honey.) And even better, there were 4 servings so my husband (who decided it was tasty and that he didn't need to do any more future eye rolling), got to have it for dinner twice. 😏

Wishing everyone a great T day and week ahead.

I was also the first one to like the chicken and waffles , but I made my hubby a lover of this meal, too. I can’t imagine not being able to swim off your own boat dock. When we visited my parent at their lake home, the kids and I lived in the water off the boat dock. We used to have so much fun there in the Summer. If we weren’t in the water we were out boating and skiing. Nice to see what you are doing. Oh, and I love Portland Maine!

That sounds like such a fun week despite the heat and the challenges!🌞 I totally get the temptation of wanting to swim when you’re right next to that clean water. Your Costco chicken and waffles find made me smile. I love that your husband finally tried it and enjoyed it too.

What peace there is there at the lake!
I really like crispy chicken and this looks successful!!
Surely the glass of milk (whatever drink you want, he says) gives you a ticket to T's party!

Chicken and waffles does sound like an odd combination, but it’s always good to try something new. A fellow blogger, sadly no longer with us, swore by peanut butter and pickled beets on a sandwich. Seemed awful to me and he always ribbed me that I never gave it a try. Maybe I should, in memory of him. Think I’ll pass on the chicken and waffles though - at least for now. Who knows what tomorrow might bring? All the best - David

Chicken and waffles sound a very strange combination to me as I consider chicken savoury and waffles as sweet which I would have as a dessert rather than part of the main meal. But each to his own...
I'm with you about maple syrup. I love maple syrup and I always have some in the house. It comes in small bottles and is very expensive but it has its own unique flavour.
You commented on my postcard and mentioned coffee milk. Is that a special sort of creamy milk to put in coffee? Or is it another word for milky coffee?
Yes, we seemed to have had (and are still having) a prolonged heatwave (Sinds the end of June) and I'm sick and tired of it. It's constantly between 30 and 40 degrees C (86 to 104 F). I will be considering buying airconditioning next summer.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca

I think the wicked hot and humid days are behind us. Wasn't this morning downright freezing? Chicken and waffles is fun. I think IHOP has it on their menu. Happy T Day

Sorry I am late again! Oh, that lake-pic is sooooo beautiful! Sad you are not allowed to swim there and that you got that bacteria on top in the water. I have never heard of chicken and waffles - sounds yummy! Hugs and to summer!
