Hi everyone. Happy new week to you. If you're stopping by for T day over at BLeubeard's and Elizabeth's blog, hello to you also.
Last week the good news is that my husband fixed my clothes dryer. The heating coil went in the dryer (again), and I've been hanging clothes to dry on a rack upstairs for the last several weeks. It took him so long to get it fixed because when I ordered the part it was delayed in shipping. He also decided he might as well replace the dryer belt, which is not his favorite thing to put on and which he's had to do too many times with this dryer. What happened in that process he missed hooking up an internal wire. He kept saying how much he hates that dryer, but of course he's fixed it a few times before so his frustration is partly from having to fix it again.
Luckily when he went back to finish the job he was calm, cool and collected, and he noticed the unconnected wire right off the bat so now I can dry clothes again. Plus the parts I had to buy were cheap compared to a new dryer or even for repairs . 😀👍❤
We've also been having a wonderful cool down so I've worked in the garden a bit. I'm starting to get red tomatoes too. Hurrah.
I was craving chocolate cake too. Christine had posted this recipe on her blog a few weeks back and since it had cooled off, I gave it a try. I switched up the frosting and made a coffee flavored one instead of the chocolate glaze. It was tasty!
The other evening the hubby and I went to Concord (NH) to run some errands, and afterwards we stopped at the Red Arrow Diner in Concord for dinner. I treated him to dinner to thank him for fixing my clothes dryer. They have great diner style food, and one of their specialties is poutine. I know that's a specialty dish from Quebec, Canada, but it's also fairly popular here in New Hampshire because we have families with Canadian connections.
Basic poutine at the diner is French fries, cheese curds and brown gravy, but I added an extra with some pulled pork. You can see my and my husband's Diet Cokes which is my ticket to T day this week. I had enough left over I brought it home and had the rest for dinner the next night.
On the way home we were driving through a town that was having their annual Balloon-Fest. Going up the road we saw 2 balloons. I was driving, so I handed my husband my phone and asked him to take a couple of photos. But did he zoom in? Nope. So when I got home I had a bunch of photos that looked like this. 😞 🤣
With a bit of cropping I could get a somewhat decent photo, but still not the best. Of course you can only crop so much before you end up only with lots of pixels.
Still it was fun to see the balloons. We went to the balloon feast a few years back and the event was mostly just a big carnival, except for the balloons. I will admit I was tempted to drive back in that direction one other evening over the weekend to see if we could spot any more balloons from the road because it's not like I see them very often.
I'll finish with some views of our sky right now because the wildfire smoke from Canada is quite bad. However, it made the rising sun quite red as it came through the trees in my yard yesterday (Monday) morning.
And the view from work at the lake was pretty hazy too. The light almost looks like a solar eclipse is happening, but of course you can see the sun in the photo and it is not eclipsing at all.

...Erika, you are fortunate to have an in house fix-it-man! It's about time for some poutine for me. 37 years ago we went for a balloon ride, once and done. Have a wonderful day.
Congrats to your gandy hubby on fixing the dryer that can't die. Wow on your tomatoes! Glad you tried that recipe! We have an air quality warning all week due the fires. -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com.
Looks like you have the same smoke and haze we have been experiencing. That dryer project looks like it was a doozy! I am not sure I would ever attempt that!
So glad you got your dryer back. Kudos to your Hubby for being so handy. I had to pay the repairman to fix a leak in the washing machine. I've never tried poutine as I don't like cheese. Teague's husband is a big fan and every year they go to Old Orchard, he has to go to a place on the pier to get his poutine. The sun through the trees looks like they eye of Sauron. We had some haze on Monday, but today (Tues) it's worse. It looks like a cloudy day outside. Air quality is poor so take care.
What a great, lovely post. He did a great job getting the dryer working again!
Wonderful photos with the landcpae and eat, Sunset at the lak!
Have a happy week! Hugs Elke
So pleased to hear that your hubby fixed the dryer, he's a star! Those tomatoes look yummy and wow, your coffee frosted cake and meal looks delicious too. It's so lovely to see the sky filled with air balloons, we went to the Balloon Festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico one year and it was spectacular 😊. Thanks for the memories and wishing you a very happy T day! Hugs, Jo x
I'm glad for both of you that the dryer is now fixed :-) Here's hoping it'll stay in good working order so hubby doesn't have to go through that again!
Nothing says summer like ripe tomatoes!
Poutine was a thing in Maine, too, but I never did have it. It's always nice to have leftovers :-) Happy Tuesday!
It's always a relief when a broken appliance is fixed, especially when it saves you from buying a new one. The chocolate coffee cake looks delicious, and that poutine with pulled pork looks amazing.
Your husband is a very handy man. Lucky you! The fluffy clouds are fabulous.
Well done your hubby! I had a dryer in the UK (it rains a lot there) and I would not be able to dry anything, unless indoors in a fairly small house, making everything cold and damp. So I totally get it. You need your dryer.
Hurray for home grown red tomatoes.
I used to livre in Bristol (UK) where they manufactured balloons and regularly flew them. I used to leave for work at 6 in the morning and they would fly over quite low. I could hear the burners boost and sometimes the people talking (if I wasn't driving). It took all of my will power to keep my eyes on the road. I love to see them.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca
Your husband is quite the handyman, a keeper! I use my dryer only in the winter on rainy days, otherwise the laundry goes out on the clothesline in the garden.
So far we haven't had any smokey days this year and I'm grateful for that. There were times when we couldn't get outside because of the smoke and we had the air filters running all day in every room. I hope your air will clean up soon. Hugs - Carola
Well done to your hubby for fixing your dryer.
Your tomatoes are looking good, so is that slice of cake :)
Happy T Day.
All the best Jan
It is so wonderful to have handy husbands-I admire guys that can step in and fix things.
How fun to see the balloons-you did good getting a closer view of them. I didn't realize your area was being affected by the fire smoke-that is not good for working outdoors for sure.
enjoyed all the photos hugs Kathy
Great that you have a dryer again and that your husband made it for you.
The tomatoes look very tasty and the view of the lake is amazing!!
I´m sorry, I think I grew to 1,90m in Dortmund but my brain got lost! We have none of those things, I´m the dish-washer and I hang the clothes - thankfully! Imagine Ingo being in Salzgitter and here it all takes fire!
Fire huh.
Your last pic is so beautiful, hugs!!!
Your arteries may be about to resign in protest after the poutine, so better feed them some of those delicious tomatoes before they rebel completely! All the best - David
Three cheers on the dryer repair -- so nice that he can do that and you don't have to call in the Maytag man! That looks like a super terrific day with lots of fun. Your balloon photo story made me smile. We've experienced much the same! I had my first poutine last week, although I think it was bastardized poutine. It had the pork but I didn't find one cheese curd!
I’m always impressed by fix-it people. The insides of my appliances are a deep mystery and always will be.
THat poutine looks neat … it hasn’t reached out part of the world.

It is wonderful that he knows how to fix the dryer. That's a big bonus. Those tomatoes look wonderful. I love shooting tomatoes. Wishing you a fun rest of the weekend. Happy Shooting.
