Hi everyone. I hope you're having a lovely weekend. The temperatures in my area have warmed back up, so it kind of feels like summer again. Of course the shadows are so long at this time of year that it cools down fairly early and the nights aren't bad for sleeping. This past week one of the things on my agenda lately has been doing some deep cleaning both inside in a few places in the house (thanks to having a couple of mice who wormed their way upstairs from the basement-😩) and also in the gardens outside.
I'm also linking a up this post to Gillena's Sunday Smiles.
The first thing I'm sharing in today's post is a journal page for Elle's Halloween, Steampunk or Halloween Steampunk challenge at Art Journal Journey. This year I am making a little journal for Halloween all about a Halloween party. (I love to make theme books that tell a story about the theme.) The pages are only 4x6 inches (approximately 10x15 cm) in size, and the base pages are some off white, woven watercolor paper.
The right edge of this page is connected to some polka dot paper that also forms the background of the adjacent page. The rest of the background was created by inking the watercolor paper with black and green ink pads. Then I stamped the zombie image (Impression Obsession) one and a half times. I darkened the clothing so that it would give more contrast seeing this paper, although it took a stamped image well, didn't exactly highlight the black ink, making it look more grey.
I used some of these little bead-like items (I think they are called Poms?) that I've had in my stash to make the moon. Once the glue dried I used some yellow watercolor paint around the moon to show that it was giving off light. Then I drew and fussy cut some night clouds out of black paper. After I glued them down I used some grey and also some white paint to give them depth. Finally I drew in the ground with some markers, added some washi tape along the edge of the polka-dot paper, and finally finished by stamping a quote (Picket Fence) on light green paper before cutting it out and adding it to my page.
This past week we have been getting some lovely leaf color, and last weekend we went to a local orchard/vegetable farm to get some fresh apple cider. I took a few photos to share.
Unfortunately on our way home, my husband (he was driving and we were in his truck), decided to take a side road drive to check out the scenery, and when we came to a corner, we saw a motorcycle and its rider out of control and coming directly at us. We couldn't turn off the road because there was a guard rail, and we had a split second to decide whether to stay in our lane or to turn into the other lane. I don't know if it mattered because the motorcyclist was going too fast around the corner and was weaving between both lanes.
Before we could actually predict what he would do next, he drove into the front corner of the truck, banging so hard it caused the truck's air bags to go off and the motorcyclist to fly off the bike. He had no helmet on, and he was wearing only a T-shirt and shorts. Luckily for him, he seemed not to have any head injuries, but when I saw him from across the street his whole side was extremely red. Come to find out he wasn't licensed to drive a motorcycle and didn't even own the bike he was on.
We really thought we were going to see his body parts all over the road, and thankfully for all of us involved, we didn't.
He was going fast enough to mess up my husband's truck's suspension, blow his tire, bend his front wheel and cause all the front vehicle airbags to go off. The next day when we went to clean out the truck because our insurance company totaled it, we noticed that the whole driver's side was out of whack.
Thankfully we only had some bruises, and I had some scrapes on one knee from the floor airbag. In those actual moments I didn’t notice everything, and it wasn't until we went to clean out the truck that we noticed there were even floor airbags. We also had the dogs with us, and luckily they were OK too. 👍 The good thing about being a dog in an accident is you don't understand or even watch oncoming traffic so they stayed relaxed, unlike the two of us who were in a panic before we were crashed into. Even though we were zero percent at fault, neither of us would want someone to die. Having to live with that would be horrible.
Now we are in truck shopping mode which is not fun. My husband is mourning the loss of his truck, and even though he's constantly being told he can start retirement with a newer one, it's just a hassle he didn't want or need to deal with right now. And there is a bit of a time consideration here too since his boat needs to be pulled out of the marina by the end of next weekend (I think the son-in-law is going to come help with that) and we have 2 tons of biobricks that we burn to help heat the house in the winter and that we need to pick up to save the big delivery fee. I'm sure everything will work out however. We'll just have to cross these bridges as they come.
That's all the news from my house. I hope yours is more boring in a good way than some of what I posted here. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Oh dear Erika, a nasty incident but figure could have been far worse for all involved.
Lovely Autumnal photos and a very artistic piece of artwork. We too have a tiny visitor in hubby's office, yet to track him down and the girls(Dog's) seem to have no interest in telling us where it is.

Some drivers are just careless! I am glad that none really got serious injuries, still very annoying. Continue to enjoy some nice warm weather which I would love!
Oh, I hate cold nights. The other Stripey Tiger had his first work-night as I was freezing!
Thank you for giving cm! That´s twice my size and still quite small!
Weee... no, to the brew, ahhhh... RUN!!! And thank you for explaining the moon-making, too.
Lovely pictures of the farm!
Oh. What a horror!!! See why I´m afraid of driving a car these days. I once had a cyclist (push bike) on my hood. He came from the wrong direction, too.
A floor airbag?? Never heard of that!
Fault, btw... I had to pay, despite the dude came from the wrong direction.
Boring here, thankfully very boring here! Yikes I cross fingers and toes you get all in order in time and something good comes along with it, too. Big hugs, weee what a shock!
Oh Wow Erika how scary for all of you-thankfully neither of you or your dogs were injured-could have been much worse. hoping the motorcyclist was fully charged for this accident.
what a hassle though to go truck shopping. Hugs Enjoyed the fall photos hugs Kathy
...Erika, I'm sorry to hear your, at least you were safe and sound.
How frightening for everyone involved. So glad no one wasn't seriously hurt except the poor truck. Lovely Fall photos to go back and look at the get my heart rate down after reading about your accident. I hope you have time to enjoy the beautiful weather today.
So glad you guys are ok! So scary.
Nice page and photos by the way.
Oh my goodness! So glad that you only had some bruises from the accident and not worse for all involved! That would be so scary for sure! Your harvest looks lovely and full of Autumn color...which the cooler weather IS coming soon for us now! Finally! Love your fun zombie page with that textured moon! So cool!
Yikes, Erika. That's so frightening and I am so very grateful the two of you had nothing but bruises and, I dare say, a real shock to the system, probably being rather sore for a bit. And good on the dogs, too. I'm sorry about the truck, but better that being totaled than the two of you, although you're right about the timing. I suspect the impact of this (no pun intended) will sit with the two of you a long while. I'm glad your son-in-law will be able to help. Yes, all will be well and one day at a time and all that but ... well, just wow.
Holy crap on a cracker. I'm soooooo soooooo sooooo happy that you are all okay and safe. Wow, this is some serious stuff. Very, very, very happy you're okay 🧡
I'm so glad that you all weren't hurt! What a terrifying experience, though. I hope you'll be able to work out the boat and biobrick issues and that hubby will be happy with his next truck. It's such a shame that this happened though.
Oh my goodness ... so frightening ... so pleased no one was seriously hurt, but it shakes you up!
Sending good wishes to you.
All the best Jan
Nice textures in your journal page
Happy Sunday

Hope you get a truck that both of you like

Your journal page is cute. I like how you treated the figures. This was great for Elle's themes at AJJ.
Lovely autumn images of the farm where you got the apple cider.
How scary to have that wreck. I hope you are feeling better. I know the bruises can exacerbate in a few days time. PLEASE take care of you. So glad you SIL will be able to help.
Your art is way too cute, the autumn flowers, pumpkins and squash are lovely but that motorcyclist. REALLY? I'm so glad you two are OK.
What a nasty accident, Erika! I'm so very glad it didn't take a worse turn, and that everyone is safe. I can't imagine how you both must have felt while it happened (and afterward.) Take care, my friend; I hope the rest of your October is less scary!
As for the creative side, a theme book is such a lovely idea! Love the spooky page. (And that sentiment, lol...) Looking forward to seeing how the rest of it shapes up. xx Anita
First, let me say what a zombie apocalypse look your page has! Spooky! I especially love that moon! Those aren't poms, tho, they are called Prills (Art Institute makes them). Poms are the little velvety yarn balls. I have a little jar of gold Prills but I've never used them. Now, about your wreck: that's horrible! But so happy y'all weren't more physically involved. Lucky for your hubby with his recent back strain. Those airbags can be rough. I would recommend highly the Honda Ridgeline pickup, but your hubby probably needs more horsepower for towing that boat. Honey bought his in 2017 and loves it even more today. Good luck with the search. Those sticker prices are redonkulous!
Nobody needs an accident like that. It's just a good thing nothing serious happened to you.It is annoying because you needed the truck but help will definitely come I also believe in it
Your journal page is creepy, and the presentation of the topic is a great idea.
hugs Elke
Jeepers - looks like you had a lucky escape.
Love the book idea - the spooky page and the autumnal vibes would all add up to a great theme for starters!
You would think that taking that side road would have been a safer alternative if not for that careless motorcyclist. From the truck damage photos, it cure looks like a scary situation, more so for the truck. Glad you were all ok, including the pets. Shopping for anything when it wasn’t planned is always a headache. Hope your husband finds a truck he likes.
oh my goodness Erika! I am so glad you and your husband are okay! That is scary to go through. sending you lots of hugs and prayers. Lovely artwork. I love the trespassers will be added to the brew. lol cute. beautiful photos of pumpkins and flowers. truly lovely and i am happy you and your husband are okay. hugs!
oh my goodness Erika, I am so glad you are all ok. That is so dangerous and irresponsible to get on a motorbike like that, he could have killed himself and others! He must have hit your truck really hard to do that damage, it's amazing you weren't all seriously hurt.
I really love your zombies and that quote made me laugh. Thanks for joining in with my theme this month, elle xx
Oh my, how scary! I'm so glad that you are both ok and then dogs were unfazed by it all ❤️. Take care and I hope you find the truck of your dreams soon! Big hugs, Jo x
Thank God, you are OK, Erika.
Beautiful page! Great for Elle's challenge at Art Journal Journey.
