Fishies and Stars

Happy Friday everyone.
I'm going for a short post today since I've got an agenda for the day. Since its a rainy Friday I have errands to run and I need to pop into school to put my things away so I can find them when school begins at the end of August. The kids and teachers still have one more week left before their summer vacation beings, but I am not going back in after today and whatever is left my sub can do. Which should be clean up his things and put away the textbooks.
Plus there is a little get together for one of my department teachers who is leaving after this year winds up, so I want to go and say goodbye.
So I am trying to push some more artist boundaries this summer and knock myself out of my art routine a bit. One thing I have in my head is to make some journals. So I've been working on the outer covers for 2 new journals right now. Neither is finished but thought I would give you a peak.
This top one with the fish is going to be an ocean themed journal and this bottom one with the stars is going to be a night/ space themed book.
Since the theme at Moo Mania is Underwater, I am linking up as that is where you find fish. :) I was thinking maybe I should wait until the cover is finished, but then if I get distracted, which I most likely will, I might miss the link up. So there you go. I don't think I am going to add a lot to the front of this cover because I think those wooden fish (which came off some old mobile I had years ago and just needed a little paint and sprucing up) make the front of this book pretty complete. I do have binding plans though, and will show you the finished cover someday soon.
This is all for me today. Time is getting on.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Both journal covers are fantastic, my fave is the night-time one. Have an enjoyable day out at school, enjoy yourself! Hugs, Valerie

I've always been intimidated by journals with such lovely covers, afraid I'll mess them up. Maybe I should've looked at the covers as inspirational instead :) I especially like your stars.

Your fishy cover is beautiful as it is already --and the star cover is also fantastic!
Great to see you linking to Moo Mania & More Erika!
A big THANK YOU!!! ♥♥♥
I am not back to my normal routine yet - also many things on the agenda- but tonight I have taxi-service and possibly I get some art time while waiting for picking up the kids.

HAPPY weekend to you!
I guess you feel very free to go to school and not to have to work until end of August!!! Super!

They are going to be two fantastic covers for your journals.
You have set yourself a task and i look forward to seeing them as they progress.
I liked the under the sea page with the wooden fish, the background was great.

I hope your gathering was loads of fun. Nice to say farewell to your colleague -- and also hit school with no one much around.

I love both these art pieces so very, very much. I can't decide my favorite (though I lean toward the fish). They just feel like summer and make me smile!

These are incredible journal covers, Erika, and the themes are really inviting. I appreciate their beauty, but I admit, I never create my cover until the book is finished. If I do, I have a tendency to muck it up. You have courage, especially with the fish.

Of course, I really like the stars/nighttime/space concept, too. It fits right in with what I'm sharing at the Cosmosphere. BTW, to my knowledge, there were no women working in space exploration in the late 1940s, early 1950s. From what I gathered at the museum, the "human computers" were first employed to track trajectories for Explorer I, which happened only after NASA was created. At the moment, we are talking about the V-2 being modified by both the U.S. and the Soviets. The space race has barely begun, and yes, two of the three embarrassments begin with Sputniks I and II. Thanks for asking.

I hope you enjoyed your time at school. I'm sure you are glad that the sub will finish out the semester/quarter for you. Hope you are having a gRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRReat weekend, too.

Both of these are terrific, I especially like the night one with this lovely colour combination. What a good idea to have themed books.
Have a happy time making joirnals, that's fun.

OOh liking the journal covers and your dimensional elements. How are you feeling? Vintage Bazaar is next weekend. I can only go on Sunday, have to gallery host Saturday and be available if any families show up for our free art day. Do you still want to go? xox

You are correct and I was wrong. The Explorer I was fired in Jan, 1958, which is definitely prior to NASA. It was still the Army Ballistic Missile Agency (ABMa) back then. This is also after the Sputniks were launched, because the Explorer 1 was our first satellite in space.

When the Vanguard blew up on the launchpad in Dec., 1957, von Braun was allowed to work on his Redstone rockets and the women were used to calculate trajectories. NASA wasn't created until Oct., 1958. Thanks for setting me straight.
