Where Would You Rather Be?

Hi everyone. Today I have a couple of pieces of art to show you.
First of all Joan's challenge over at Tag Tuesday is the Beach. So I made a shaped tag.
I don't know why but the idea of a plastic bucket and shovel popped into my head. The kind little kids have when they sit and  dig in the sand. The kind that they use when they fill the bucket with sand and then tip it to make a sand castle. It brought back memories of when my daughter was a toddler and would play in the sand.

Its actually  double tag.The shovel comes out of the bucket. I painted some paper and then drew the shovel and bucket, cut them out, and added some details with markers. Then I added some die cuts that I colored or painted, and I stamped the sun, painted it and fussy cut it. I wanted the bucket to represent both my beach memories and also some beach things like starfish, shells and seagulls, of course.
And I wanted to participate one more time at Rosie's Circle challenge at Art Journal Journey one more time before June becomes July.
Can you believe it is almost July?
I've had this page pressed under books for 2 days trying to get it to lie flat and it has somewhat flattened out, but not fully. It looks a little lopsided in this photo, but that is why.
So my background is made with layers of tissue paper, napkins and paint. I've also added  some little stars, as well as my hand drawn and painted moon and a TH person. My scribble says He's a handsome man in the moon.
So where would you rather be-in space or on the ocean?
I'm definitely an ocean person but looking up into the night sky is pretty amazing too.

Hope its a beautiful late June day  or starry night where ever you are.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Beautiful journal page and tag. Lovely idea with the bucket and spade, brings back fond memories. Thanks a lot for joining us at Tag Tuesday. I would rather be on the ocean than in space! Have a nice day, hugs, Valerie

How clever for the shovel to be removed from the pail. I love the man in the moon page. To flatten it, have you tried spritzing the back with water? and then ironing flat? When I do this, I use a pressing cloth like a man's handkerchief to protect the artwork and the iron. Tough choice to make. Beach or stars. Maybe head among the stars and feet in the sand. As to the weather, eye to the sky. When thunder roars, go indoors.

What a fantastic tag and handsome man in the moon page! I love the elements you used for the bright and cheery bucket and spade and also the beautiful space sky background ๐Ÿ˜€. It would have to be the ocean, exploring space really doesn't appeal to me but I love walking on the beach and swimming in the ocean - perfect ๐Ÿ˜. Enjoy your week! J ๐Ÿ˜Š

It's a toss up, Erika. I certainly like both art entries today. The tag is fabulous, and if I lived near water (other than my bathtub), I would love to be at the beach. But because the night time sky is everywhere, I guess I am drawn to it. It's a clever way to use that TH paper doll, too. I adore how you depicted the sky with circles. Of course, the double tag is so well done, and using the die cuts and other ephemera makes it even more special.

You have to have a bucket at the beach! That's why!

I love them both, Erika! Loads of fun. Isn't pressing till flat -- and not getting there -- frustrating? Have you tried lightly spraying the back of the piece with water and then pressing (put waxed paper or foil under if you are pressing on something that might be damaged by the damp). I've had some luck with that technique but not sure about dimension, etc.

Its a fabulous tag Erika, it brought me back many memories as well, buckets and spades were always the first to be packed for a day at the beach.
The journal page is wonderful as well, super textures with the napkins in the background.
If I had to choose it would be a beach destination for me, I have a big phobia about planes and flying.

These are both brilliant. What a clever interpretation of the Beach theme - to me, a bucket and shovel for sand castles sums up 'the beach'. I also love your treatment of the night sky on your journal page.
