Lots of Stenciling

Hi everyone.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. It's been a bit chilly the last couple of days and felt so much like fall.  Which of course it now is. Today is supposed to warm up a bit, so let's see if we actually get a little bit of summer back.

This weekend we had to bring my husband's boat home, which is never a very happy day for him. For some reason the marina is closing a week early this year. Usually they ask boats to be removed  over Columbus/Indigenous People Weekend (in 2 weeks), but this year they are closing next weekend. We can't get the boat next weekend  as my daughter  and her fiance are having a "cookout" with their closest friends, us and her fiance's family.  I put the word "cookout" in quotes because I'm guessing they are really going to surprise us by having a justice of the peace marry them. I'm thinking that because my daughter has been acting/sounding pretty anxious lately, and she and her fiance have been talking about this cookout all summer.  I know my daughter well enough to know when not to try to make more of a situation than she wants, so I'm waiting to see if the right moment to ask ever comes up. And if it doesn't come up, then we'll just go with the flow and let them surprise us.

And then again, I might be totally wrong and this might just really be a cookout. (Even if my gut feeling says differently-smile.)

I'm here today with another page for Neet's Fur and/or Feather challenge at Art Journal Journey.

For this post I have some colorful feathers on my stenciled toucan. This is a newly discovered species that only lives in my imagination. I'll scientifically name this new discovery Toucanis warmcolorii.  Smile.

After using a Sharpie and a toucan stencil on some already paint stenciled cardstock, I took some gouache to color in Mr. Toucan. I then had to re-outline a few of my stenciled lines.

I also used black paint to stencil the leaves on my watercolor paper background. (I think stencil is the word for my post today.)  I stitched the bird piece onto my background paper, and I edged my  base (the watercolor stenciled part of the page) with some pink ink. I then cut out the big tropical flower from a sheet of printed paper and added that, along with a stamped quote, to finish off my page.

And there you have it. Thanks for visiting, and I hope you enjoy what's left to your weekend.

I needed a warm coat this morning when I took a walk in the woods. It's really chilly these days, esp. in the mornings. The page looks so lovely with that bright berry colour.

Sorry from me to your husband about the boat but oh how exciting to think that your daughter might be getting married. How wonderful. I do so hope you are right in what you are thinking.
Love your. Toucanis warmcolorii. He is beautiful and such a lovely warm colour. Your background is fabulous and I do love the tropical flowers and foliage. Do I spy stitching?
A great journal page again for the theme at AJJ.
Hugs, Neet xx (can't wait to find out about the cookout)

Cookout or wedding, it sounds like a great time to be had with lots of good people. Maybe they are worried about weather fallout from the hurricane and wanting boats out in case it gets bad. I'm sure it's a sad time for him.

We're headed north after I get my heart monitor tomorrow or possibly Tuesday. I opt for Tuesday, as Rick is in hour eight of installing my new dishwasher -- nine or more trips home or to the hardware store for stuff and he's stumped. Now he's watching a video which might have been a wise thing to do several hours ago. It will take a day to put the kitchen back together. My vocabulary has been increased by a number of words today -- unfortunately none I can share in a blog!

Dear Erika,
I like your Toucanis warmcolorii very much (a great new zoological discovery)! What you write about your daughter's "cookout" reminds me a lot of my daughter, who is also prone to such secrecy. One day my husband and I were invited by her to a minced roast (because we all like to eat it and she likes to cook it). But somehow I had a certain suspicion because of her behavior. There was indeed this dish, but then there was also a scratch card to scratch off - and by then (but actually already when I was invited) I had an inkling of the text I was going to scratch off: "You're going to be grandparents". Our grandson is now 10 months old :-DDD
Hugs from Austria and all the best,
Traude

PS: You wrote to me that you walked into Mexico from California, "but coming back to California was not an easy walk." Do I understand you correctly that it was difficult because of the border controls? Or was it emotionally difficult?

An exciting cookout :) I look forward to hearing if your prediction comes true. To be honest, if I had it to do over again I'd elope :) but a cookout sounds like a great idea.

Your toucan is amazing. i love how you sewed and added that added element to the toucan. The flower is awesome. It's an absolutely sunning background and toucan, which worked great for Neet's theme at Art Journal Journey, Erika.

How do you feel about your daughter getting married and you not having any input? I hope you are good with it, dear.
