Time for a New Challenge

Hi everyone. Happy Tuesday. Today we are starting a new challenge at Try It on Tuesday. Before I get to that, let me thank everyone who joined our Going Round In Circles challenge. ❤

Our newest challenge works perfectly for this season and back to school for so many children. In fact our new theme is CHILDREN. But your art does not have to relate to going  back to or getting out of school. It just has to be about children.

I made a small journal page for this new challenge. I started by using a Creative Expressions/Sam Pool alphabet background stamp with light colored ink on the background. Then I used an old La Blanche  image as my centerpiece. I always like this one with the boy reading on the mushroom.

I stamped the image directly onto my page, and then I used some paint pens to color in the mushroom. I stamped the image a second time on some white paper and then fussy cut the boy and his books. I added that over the stamped boy and book on my page. Doing that made him pop off the page more.

I used watercolor paints to make the grass. Then I took some white doily flowers from my stash and colored them with some alcohol ink. I drew in the stems and glued down the flowers.  I added  small confetti pieces for the centers. I added the kitties (49 and  Market laser cut) and stamped the quote. To finish the page I outlined the edges with a black Sharpie and used a bit of pink ink on the background for a little more depth.

This challenge runs for the next 2 weeks, and as always, we accept all kinds of art. Be sure to check out what the design team has made for some other ideas.

I'm looking forward to seeing what people create for this theme, and I hope you're inspired to join us.

I am also linking up to Mia's Background challenge at Art Journal Journey. She wants us to make our own page backgrounds, which I did with this page.  Please just  remember AJJ only accepts art journaling.

A beautifully worded sentiment, seems very appropriate for the lad sitting on the toadstool.

Oh that quote is so touching Erika! I very much agree that we can always try to go back to our childhood memories and find comfort in them no matter what age we are in now. Just like when I saw the sunset this afternoon and it got me so inspired to share a story that I saw when I was a child and as I wrote it it brought me back. Sending you hugs Erika!

What a sweet little scene you created, love it. At first, I was like, La Blanche? Never heard of th... . Then, I thought to look in my stamps folder and I have 3 of their silicone stamps, rubber on thick foam, all vintage. A chair, curtains and a peony. Geez, memory loss is such a slow process, hehehe. Hope you have some good weather this week, xoxo

What an adorable scene you created with the boy sitting on the mushroom reading his book. That is a lovely quote and perfect for the challenge and the scene. Thanks also for a great background that will be great for Mia's theme at AJJ.

My doctor was onlhy telling me she is going on holiday and taking lots and lots of books with her (husband too - both avid readers) and I picture them sitting in the sunshine, sheltered on a balcony reading. I love the idea of a child sitting on a mushroom, reading an exciting swashbuckling book.
That is the perfect background for reading and a beautiful quote.

A lovely page Erika, I love the sentiment you've used and it's just perfect for the image of the little boy reading in his own special garden. The alphabet background works so well.
