This Weekend We're Back to Nova Scotia

Hi everyone.  Happy weekend to you.  We've warmed back up a bit from our freezing Friday temperatures ( it was -3 degrees F/ -16 degrees C when I got up Friday morning-brrr), but the weather has done exactly what you'd expect in December. It's gotten cold and snowy.

And no, I haven't traveled anywhere beyond my local area, but I wish I had. 😏

Today I want to share the last  of my photos from in and around Cape Breton Highlands National Park in Nova Scotia. The only thing today's photos have in common is that they relate to the ocean. My husband and I (plus our 2 dogs)  spent a day in this Canadian National Park back in mid-September.

I still have a lot more Nova Scotia photos, but after our day in the park, we spent a few days doing some museums. Timing wise that worked out great since we had a beautiful sunny day in the park, and then we had a couple of very overcast and even slightly wet days plus some wind so museums were perfect for the weather. Those photos will come in future posts.

Today's photos are in random order from our day, except for the last couple.

I walked this trail, but I guess I never took a photo of the beautiful little beach I discovered at the end of it. 😕
And when I returned to the car, someone was longingly looking at me wondering why he didn't get to walk with me.

I'm still confused why there should be a light pole in the middle of this stretch of rocky shore (in the photo above). There was no sign to explain it.

This lighthouse, which was along a section of the road that was not in the park but sandwiched between 2 parts of the park, was no longer in use and had been turned into a little ice cream stand. Ice cream would have tasted great at that point of the day, but unfortunately they only took cash and neither of us had any on us. 😕

However we did stop for lunch that day, and I had one of my favorite sandwiches. 😏

And then the road took us back into the park.

I couldn't get any more zoom on my camera, but we saw a few seals bobbing in the water along this rocky shore.

On our park day, we  left the Margaree Valley (where we spent the previous night) in the morning and drove along the north side of the peninsula past Cheticamp and into the park.  The park is  the darker green area on the map (see the next photo). We ended up  following the park road as well as  veering off through a few towns on the north end of the park. We  then drove down along the southern coast on the peninsula . If you find the town of Ingonish on the map, we drove through there and then  as far as St. Ann's, which is where we were staying for the next 2 nights.

In St. Ann's  we stayed in a lovely little cabin colony  called the Fern and Thistle which I found on Air B&B. Our cabin was the one on the left where you can see the tail end of the hubby's Subaru.

This cabin was really well equipped with anything you could possibly need except of course your food, clothing, and personal items. There was no TV, but that was OK because after a couple of busy days, TV would have just put me to sleep. 😉

In the next trip post I'll start sharing one of our museum visits, but if you missed any park posts and want to check them out, you can find them here (The Bog) or here (Some views from the park) . For the rest of my Nova Scotia trip posts to date just click on the Nova Scotia label at the very bottom of this post.

I'm also linking a up to Gillena's Sunday Smiles.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and start to the new week!

What beautiful photos from your holiday in the national park! The seals must have been a wonderful experience. Thank you for your report. The sandwiches are such a different kind of food than what we have here. The cabin looks great; so close to the beautiful scenery, you don't need a TV!
Have a lovely Sunday, hugs, Elke

This looks like a wonderful spot to stay. What great scenery -- and your blue skies! We haven't seen those in awhile here, so that's a lovely sight. Loved the blue house and lighthouse especially!

Beautiful photographs. I love the one of Pete with that forlorn look. Cold and sunny today. No snow, ice, rain, or bitter cold.
