Cool Skies

I've been sky watching again.
Searching out sunshine in what short days we have-
and they're only getting shorter!
Sunrise off my back deck one morning last week.
Fuzzy but another morningwith some cool watercolor skies.
The bottom of my driveway when I got home one day last week. It was only 4:15. (And only 29 degrees-Fahrenheit)
And there were some pretty wisps in the sky on my way home Friday after I picked up Katie at school. This photo is kind of late...you can just see the moon as a white spot in the sky.  Before that the sky was some wisps of blues and greys and white.
I thought it would make a great sweater.
This was the moon Friday night.
This photo is bright and makes you feel like your looking into a lightbulb.
So its another Monday, and today it is going to rain
(so much for pretty sunrises).
Then the cold is coming back.
Oh my.
Luckily it was nice on Saturday and warm,
so we went out and finished up the leaves.
Dave worked on fixing up some driveway ruts too.
I am really glad I got that job done!!!!
Once my snow tires go on on Wednesday I will be ready for snow-
UGH!!!!!
Not in my head though.
Never ready for snow.
So did you do anything fun this weekend?
We went to see Thor at the movies Saturday night.
Dave and I.
Then the daughter calls and we end up meeting her on her boyfriend there.
So much for our date night.
But it was fun and I enjoyed the movie.
Yesterday it was dark and damp all day.
Rather a downer.
But Katie needed to go back to school early so we went out for breakfast at a local
place called the Farmer's Kitchen-
which I go by every morning on the way to work and want to go get breakfast,
so it was YUMMY! and a treat!!!
And later when we got home I tried to motivate myself to go play in the studio
but it just wasn't in me.
More like a nap and some reading kind of day-
with a fire in the fireplace and the darkness, much more cozy to snuggle on the couch and
relax.
Before a busy week.
New reading book for me
This book was mentioned in this book
which I recently read and enjoyed a lot.
So I picked up a used copy of this book
and so far I am liking it.
Elizabeth and her German Garden was written in 1898 so it is a classic.
Plus, it kind of falls into my international reading.
Oh yeah,
on that note,
I found a book of Latin American short stories I had on the shelf and had read a
long long time ago.
So I am going to reread a few stories.
Really serious about doing some of this international reading.
So what have you been up to?
Thanks for stopping by.

No Work Monday

It is spectacular when you have a Monday holiday.
Get to sleep late, do something fun or putter around the house at a snail's pace.
My kind of day!!!!
So far my weekend has been good.
A little more overcast than I thought, and COLD...
and they say really cold tomorrow.
Guess old man winter has to pop his head in at some point.
:(
I spent Saturday cleaning my studio...
took me a lot longer than I expected-
(what's new?)
and  though it is a lot neater now
there's still a lot to go through and purge.
Another day.
And look at what I woke up to yesterday morning
SURPRISE!
The first snow to whiten the ground this season!
(We've had a few rogue flurries, but nothing like this!)
Luckily it all melted by late morning.

These photos have a cool light since I snapped them as the sun was breaking through the clouds for a few minutes.
And yesterday Katie and I went out shopping and for lunch. Was  a fun mother-daughter afternoon-got some things we needed, a few Christmas gifts and a new jacket for me at Chicos marked way down to $27 from the tag price of $136. Love a good deal.
Plus, we had a delicious desert during our lunch at the Cheesecake Factory- YUM!

My friend Vicky is coming for lunch.
And I am going to relax and enjoy my entire day off.

Hope you have a super Monday whether you are off or not.
Thanks for stopping by.

New Cabinet and a Few Other Things

Yesterday was a busy work day for me- doing a bit of spring cleaning and helping Dave install my new bedroom cabinet.
This is replacing my bureau. The dear hubby built the frame and I bought the internal parts at the Container Store back in late January when they were having their big Elfa sale. He still needs to build the doors and the 2 drawers at the bottom, but this cabinet is so large  that it was taking up all his work space in in workshop.
Besides, I need to decide how to finish the outside. I am leaning towards painting and Dave is leaning towards staining. My bedroom is the purple-grey color you can just make out on the walls and I was thinking of painting this grey. Dave is thinking stain-but once the floor gets put down there will be lots of wood there- and out house is post and beam so we have wood there too.
What do you think? Any suggestions?
Love how it looks so far though and I am so excited to start organizing and filling it up.
So today I am going back to the Container Store because I think I want 2 more shelves on the right and then I need to price some bins for the shelves; they might be a bit pricey at the Container Store so I might end up looking for those bins elsewhere. But not a bad way to spend the first real day of vacation. Once I get those things thing I plan on spending tomorrow home organizing all my stuff (along with cleaning and sorting too).
I managed to do a few other spring cleaning items yesterday too! Feel really good about that.
Getting these chores done early in my vacation is great, and I am hoping then to have some low key and down time to play and create later this week.
Oh yes, and I did try my hand at homemade yogurt yesterday. Think I ended up putting in too few live cultures for the amount of milk I used- it needed to culture overnight instead of the 5-10 hours, but it still tastes great. There's a learning curve I guess.
Be back tomorrow with some art and maybe a few other photos too.
Thanks for visiting.

Guess What?

Today is my birthday.
I won't tell you how old I am.
And I am going back to work after a week off and my fun adventure in New Mexico.
Oh don't I wish I was there right now.
But it is back to reality.
:(
I am going to wear one of the new pieces of jewelry I bought on my trip-
I was bad- bought several pieces-
nothing super expensive but Taos and Santa Fe are silver jewelry lovers paradises.
This morning I need something fun to give me a little boost -
I would rather be doing this-in my bed!
Someone is VERY happy to have me home and he will be crushed when I have to head out for work.
I am crushed too-ha-ha.
And since it is my birthday, here's a sort of celebratory card. I made this before I went away.
The cute little beer steins are from Paper Smooches.
It is very simple card except that I added this St. Patrick's Day pin that I had in my stash. Going to drop it in the mail out to my daughter-the college girl who is able to go out this this year since she is now 21. St. Patrick's Day isn't all that far away. And that means it isn't all that long until it is SPRING!
I love that.
Thanks for stopping by. Time to get this sad state of a body off and ready for another day at school.
