Projects in Progress

Hi everyone. Happy Sunday to you.

I'm having a relaxing weekend; I hope you are enjoying yours also.

Lately I've been back into my sewing machine. Funny I go months and don't touch it except maybe to stitch a line or two on a page, and then I suddenly get the urge to sew.I'm back in a sewing mood, and have started a couple of arty projects that will, eventually, most likely turn into cloth books.

While going through things in the spare bedroom project, I came across a bunch of vintage lace pieces I've collected over the years. I'm using some with some stiff felt squares I also found while cleaning. I'm trying to keep things in neutral shades (white, greyu, brown glack). These are far from finished, as you might be able to tell from these next photos.

I've stitched down the bits on a few of these, and some of them are just laid out waiting for hand stitching. Or perhaps I will change my mind about how I will lay them out.

And here's a couple closer to being finished with everything stitched down either by machine or by hand. They still need something, but I haven't figured out what that is yet.  They might still need a bit of edge trimming however.

Here's a couple that are finished, unless I have another idea for them.

Last weekend when my daughter was home we took a trip to Joanne's Fabrics. They were having their fat quarters 10 for $10, so I picked up a few that were the right colors for Halloween. They also had Halloween fabric on sale, so I picked up a 1/3 of a yard of a couple of different ones I liked.

You can probably guess I am thinking of making a Halloween  book. Here's a couple of started backgrounds.

Ideas are rolling around in my head for both of these fabric projects. Any suggestions?

Enjoy what's left to your weekend.

These lace pieces are beautiful -- they'd make a fabulous book for Halloween or just something pretty!

Hello Erika, You have some lovely vintage pieces, and I love what you are working on-a cloth book for Halloween sounds very fun. I need to get my creative juices going-I have been in a slump but have projects I have in mind.
Happy Sunday evening and good week ahead. Hugs Kathy

Glad you have been sewing. I have phases where I sew a lot, and then others where I don't want to. I love your beautiful little squares, they are really gorgeous. They would make lovely covers for mini books, or some could be made into a big collage. Looking forward to seeing what you make. Hugs, Valerie

I can only imagine a future archeologist uncovering a crafter's stash and wondering what it was all about. What conclusions would they arrive at? Might they even assign religious or ceremonial significance to it? Maybe you'd be a high priestess in their eyes, Erika, endowed with special powers. We'll never know! Hugs - David

Lace is so beautiful, especially those aged ones. You are using them in a really neat way.I have one little piece from my grandmother's wedding dress, around 130 years old. It's incorporated in a doll's dress from my mother's dolls. Treasure!
