Weekend Chatter

Hi everyone. Happy second half of the weekend to you.

Let me start today's post with a journal page for Wendy's On, In or By the Sea challenge at Art Journal Journey.

I started my page with a stencil and some white paint. Once the paint dried I rubbed 2 shades of blue ink over the stenciled image. Then I did some layering. I save a lot of packaging, and I had a piece that had some seashells around the edge. I glued  that piece down on my stenciled page. However, there was some writing  in the middle of that recycled seashell page that I didn't want. To cover that up I used the same stencil, white paint and a cut to size piece of blue paper. Once that dried I added that to my page to cover up the unwanted area.

I now had too much dark blue for the seashell recycled piece to stand out, so on my painted and inked parts I rubbed a light coat of gesso over them using a scrunched up paper towel.

Once that dried, I outlined the sheets of paper. I added a blank postcard and stamped a couple of quotes on that postcard using an old set of Technique Tuesday clear stamps. On some green paper I drew and fussy cut some seaweed. Then I added an assortment of pre-printed punch out images as well as adding an old postage stamp from my stash.

I also have some photos starting with my pretty decent brussel sprout crop that I harvested last week. This first photo is the top of the plant which is just a giant blossomed sprout.

You might have seen the photos I posted a couple of Fridays ago of a huge flock of turkeys in my yard. They've been back again several times last week. And this time my windows don't have doggy nose slime all over them because on the day I took these photos, the dogs were in afternoon nap mode. 😏

My project last week (that I'm finally doing even though I bought the paint months ago) is painting some shelves in my bathroom that needed a little freshening up.

I also took a road trip one day out to King Arthur flour's home in Norwich, Vermont. At their baker's store I picked up a few items for some holiday baking and was very excited when I got to the cash register and the cashier told me they were having 15% off your total order. ❤

And finally I had a load of stone delivered for an on-going outdoor project which I'll share another time.  Bet you can guess what I've been doing this weekend (at least for a little bit).

I am also linking this post up to GIllena's Sunday Smiles. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and start to the new week.

Those turkeys are quite wonderful, and they are probably going to be a regular feature in your yard. I don’t know whether you are interested in setting out a little food for them but cracked corn is dirt cheap and they relish it. You’ll have to name your place Turkey Acres! All the best - David

Did you catch one for the Thanksgiving?

I'd love to go to King Arthur if I ever get out that way! Lucky you! And your turkey pals look very content there! My crystal ball tells me there will be many Brussels sprouts side dishes in your future -- they look great!

...you sure had a rafter of turkeys. I wish that I was closer, I'd bring my loader over to help move the stone!

I bet you'd rather be by the sea than spreading stone on your driveway? Looks like you have lots of choices for fresh turkey. Enjoy the sunshine today and don't over do

Kisses and wishes are great :-) What a wonderful üage!
And brussel sprout crop I never saw for real. Oh, the turkeys are hiding in your place?
I want to do the bathroom, too, good reminder!
To a better new week, hugs.

Good morning, you have been busy I have always loved King Arthur-so nice that you have a store nearby.
I love the wild turkeys-I used to feed them corn back at the woods house-very fun to watch especially when they have their little ones. If you hunt them I used to make broth from all the bones and can them with a bit of meat.
Happy Sunday and new week hugs Kathy

Your bathroom shelf project also is great. It's always rewarding to refresh something like that, especially with a new coat of paint. And I can totally relate to the joy of finding a great deal on baking supplies. It must have been exciting to pick up some new items for holiday baking. I’m sure the 15% discount was the cherry on top!

I can’t wait to hear more about your baking adventures and other projects as the holiday season gets closer. Thanks for sharing such an inspiring post!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Another lovely page Erika, thank you again. Not sure I would like wild turkeys in my garden, but they would be safe, I find the meat too dry so we always have beef for Christmas dinner. Hugs Wendy

Oh my mouth is alivating over those brussels sprouts! And those turkeys look fat. Judging from the mountain of leaves behind the gravel, I'll guess leaf-blowing/raking. xoxo

The King Arthur store is pretty cool! We were there 15 years ago, so I'm sure much has changed since! Excellent that you happened to be there for a sale. Your crop of sprouts is wonderful. What fun to have the turkeys visit. Love your art project. I especially like the turtle--I can just imagine him slowly making his way across the page :-)

Can you eat wild turkey? Gosh if you could you could have a turkey farm sale - catch your own for Thanksgiving.
Love the sprouts - that seems to be an awful lot, hope you like them. I remember my son coming home from school on his first Christmas Dinner there telling me "we had green balls for lunch".
Love your artwork for the AJJ challenge. Gorgeous background, all the time you spent on it was well worth the effort.
Hugs, Neet xx
