Happy December 26

Hi everyone. Happy Friday. I hope if you celebrated Christmas  (and aren't celebrating today) you had a lovely holiday. And whether you celebrate or not, I hope it was a great week. Today I'm linking up to Nicole's Friday Face Off and Gillena's Friday Lunch Break.

I had a lovely and enjoyable holiday with my husband, daughter and son--in-law. They arrived Tuesday, and we had our family celebration on Christmas Eve Day.  We started out our holiday by  all climbing into the hubby's truck Tuesday night after dinner and driving through a bit of a snowstorm to go to see some holiday lights at a place in Maine called Sandy Hill Farm. The hubby and I have been there before, but not my daughter and son-in-law so this year we were able to share it with them. I've posted photos from our previous visits before also, but this year the snow made it even more magical.

Here are a few festive views.

Although these photos don't look like it, it was actually fairly crowded. The farm does a great job of spacing out people since you have to reserve a time online before you go. They don't sell tickets at the gate. With the snow it took us a bit longer to get there than usual, but  at the gate the girl told me that everyone was late with snow and it was better to be a little late and safe, especially since we seem to drive there when the snow was at its worse. The drive home was not even half as tricky.

When he left the house there was barely a half an inch (like 1 cm) of snow on the ground, and when we got home 3.5 hours later we had 5 inches (almost 13 cm) of snow on the ground. The farm with the lights is close to the ocean and they did not get that much snow, maybe just a couple of inches, so it wasn't  bad walking around.

And here's some faces for Friday Face Off. First of all a family portrait.

And then a great photo of everyone but me (because I was taking the photo).

I have one more face to share today. My son-in-law is a pretty talented guy, and he made me a mini-Sasquatch out of a big chunk of log for Christmas. Big Cheeks also known as Wilbur stands about 24 inches (61 cm) tall.

And if you wonder why he's known as Big Cheeks just look at the back view.  😏

Grin!  I'll end with that view, so have a super weekend ahead!

Wow, I've been to light parks before but never while it was snowing, that's gotta be an awesome upgrade! And totally worth it to get those gorgeous family shots! Framers for sure! Your daughter is 150 thousand % your mini-me! And I'm very impressed with Son-in-law's whittling skills - Amazeballs, or should I say Amazecheeks? Hahaha xoxo

...Erika, I wish that I had been able to be at light show in person, but your images are the next best thing. They lit up my dark morning. thank you. May you be warm, well and merry as you enter the new year .

Oh Bigcheeks is a hunk. (I love his cheeks btw)
The light show was amazing. I love the tulips of course...
So glad you got there safely. Do you have to put chains on your tires? Where I lived in Italy it was compulsory in the village where I lived.
Great photos of you and your family!
Enjoy the holiday,
Lisca

Wow, I would not have braved the snow to see the lights. They were spectacular. I absolutely love Wilbur. Your SIL is very talented. I'm glad I wasn't sipping my tea when you showed why he is called Big Cheeks. A little snow coming tonight. Are you getting any snow? Enjoy your day and have a great weekend.

Big Cheeks cracks me up! This is a wonderful post, Erika. That light display is something else -- truly worth the visit. And I think you are right about the snow. When it's a quiet, falling snow, walking in it is lovely. I adored the family photos. They are real gems. It sounds like Christmas was very good for you. Let the celebrations continue!

Wow! What a beautiful light show for Christmas. I like the idea that you have to schedule time so people aren't packed in together. The photos are wonderful, especially of you and the family. OHHHHH you are right your SIL is very talented. What a fabulous gift. I'm glad you had a nice Christmas. Thank you for sharing with FFO and have a warm and cozy weekend. Too much snow for me. LOL

Your celebrations look great — lucky you that the snow wasn’t bad enough to stop your tour of the lights.

You've captured the seasonal illuminations beautifully and provide a loverly insight into the splendour on display which I'm sure was totally magical irl.

Very best wishes for the rest of the Christmas period (not sure if't it's ongoing till New Year as it seems to have become here in the UK) and a creative 2026.

The family portraits are lovely, and Wilbur is absolutely hilarious. Your son-in-law clearly has a great sense of humor (and some serious woodworking skills). "Big Cheeks" is a name well-earned!

Merry Christmas.

Dear Erika,
WOW, your blog is so festive and colorful and shiny today: absolutely beautiful! I'm still glad I didn't have to go out into the snowstorm 😅😉 - and that you all got home safely. It's wonderful that you had such a lovely family Christmas! The mini Sasquatch with the big bum is hilarious 😂. By the way, I bought Sasquatch socks in Canada... 😊
Thank you so much for all your kind comments from 2025! We also saw some waterfalls in Iceland a few years ago. It's true that Niagara Falls seems more touristy - but ultimately, they are a truly MIGHTY natural spectacle that I (like you) wouldn't have wanted to miss. Thanks also for your comment about the new Dan Brown book. I think I already read on the book covers that he lives in New Hampshire. I like his books because, although they're primarily thrillers, there's always a lot to learn along the way—I like that. When I read that one particular passage, I thought, "Wow, I have to write that down in my own words and share in my blog - it's SO true." Just then, Edi came up to me, and I told him about it. He had read the book before me, and he said YES, that's how he felt too, and he would have talked to me about it after reading it...
I wish you and your loved ones a wonderful start to a happy and healthy New Year!

We have a light park here as well, but the snow truly makes yours magical and very Christmas-y. Spending Christmas, even an early one (if you usually celebrate on the 25th) with your daughter and her husband is a spcial treat. A white Christmas is something special as well. I love the Sasquatch - your son-in-law indeed is very talented. Will you keep Big Cheeks in the house or will he eventually move into your yard? Have a lovely weekend, big hugs - Carola

You take snowing in with humor - I love your new banner (no snow here).
I missed your post (nearly!). Glad I did not - lovely!!!! The sunflowers sure are my fav. Dad loved them and now... they ask for peace and freedom.
Happy family :-) and thank you again for sparing me to check what size the cute guy is in cm! I´ll never learn! Wow on the butt, LOL. To a great Sunday (already), hugs!

This year, we did not attend any holiday light show, so I appreciated that you shared this one, Erika. Your Big Cheeks gift is a fun one and even more so as it was hand made especially for you -- what creativity and such fun! Sending our best wishes to you and Dave for a Happy 2026 🥂.Retirement is a wonderful thing, as you well know, and your husband may find out too!
