Hi everyone. Happy weekend. I hope you had a wonderful holiday last week.
We're now in the middle Twixtmas or what I think of as that luxurious holiday downtime, the days between Christmas and New Years. I imagine lots of other people enjoy the time between the 2 holidays, especially if they have vacation time or don't have to work. With the Christmas crazies more or less over I'm enjoying the lights, trees and decorations, watching more TV than I usually do and reading. It's been quite chilly in my area too, so that makes another reason for lots of lounging around the house. 😏
Plus my husband has been around and has had some time off which has been fun for us both. His big news is that in a couple of weeks he's going to go to part time work and semi-retire. I think he's having some adjustment thoughts about working less, but I think in a few months he'll wonder why he didn't just fully retire. Time will tell what happens I guess, and maybe he'll even surprise me and go back to working full time. 😮
I have another page for Sharon's Winter challenge at Art Journal Journey, and I'll also be joining Gillena's Sunday Smiles. My page today is about the the winter Christmas holiday.
When cleaning earlier this fall I found a couple of old greeting cards that had some fun dog prints. With the red check bow and the ball in his mouth, this guy made me think of Christmas and how the dogs in my house (and many other houses too) enjoy getting some fun little presents at Christmas. I fussy cut him out of the front of the card.
I used some plaid paper and some fabric trim to make the background. The trim on the top and bottom are the same but it was hard to get equal light on both of them. I then added the dog image, some die cut black paper ric-rac as well as a fussy cut Santa image. Then I used some various paper greetings and mini-tags that I also had in my stash.
I thought before we moved beyond the holidays I would share a few more views from our holiday light walk last Tuesday (December 23). The walk at Sandy Hill Farm is around a mile (1.6 km), and as I said in my other post about our walk (Christmas Lights), the snow made it magical.
I'll finish this post with the little Santa gnome I put out on the back deck. You can see he had a bit of snow on him when we left for our light walk Tuesday (the 23rd) night.
And ha ha, this is how he looked on the morning of the 24th.
It will be nice to have a bit of a warm-up a couple of days this upcoming week, but first we have to get through some ice and rain. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we don't lose power. Have a great rest of your weekend and start to the new week.

You are so right about the snow making the lights magical! That holiday card is joyful and beautiful.
Semi retirement sounds perfect for hubby! Lovely page and enjoyed the light show!
Oh Wow I enjoyed seeing all of these winter photos with lights-no snow here but cold is coming. enjoy the down time hugs
We are on an 11-day Christmas staycation and it’s nice. Like you mentioned, that time between Christmas and New Years is a neat one. Not sure if/when I’ll take the trees down. But I love having the time off with Tim.
What made your hubby want to go to part-time? You mentioned he has mixed feelings.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you don’t lose power either. We’ve had Christmas times when the heat just died. Burrr….
I love all the photos and that second one with the tree, how neat is that?
Happy Christmas. Happy 2026 and Happy in between time!
Cheers, Ivy.
...Erika, thanks for sharing more of the light show.
Cute page. The cats wouldn't tolerate the jaunty checked bow. The lights are just beautiful. Poor little gnome. I'm hoping we get mostly rain.
I love this time of year, too. The pressure feels off. And we can recharge a bit. I love your art piece today -- and those lights! Fantastic (again!). Who knows -- he may find retirement is amazing! I sure do!
Awe! That pup is having such a fun Christmas here! I love the pretty patterns that remind me of Christmas with the reds and the jolly guy himself in there! Love the fabric in there! Very cool idea! Your Christmas lights walk is very pretty! I especially love the dangling from the trees! My hubby retired 5 years ago and he says he's busier now than he was when working! LOL It's a weird adjustment time, but it's fun having him home with me. Enjoy the moments and looking forward to things to come! HUGS
The retirement decision is tough for everyone, depending on physical health, mental health, financial stability and alternative activities during the working week.
Semi retirement for your husband sounds like an excellent idea.. I wish I had done that myself.
Twixmas. Nice term. Luv your pics.
Thanks for linking to SundaySmiles
🎄much love
Such a color-filled update, Erika! Your photos are amazing, and the Santa gnome gave me a chuckle. Love the simple joy depicted on your art journal page. Hope you have a blissful week ahead. Anita xx
What will I do once Ingo retires? (He´s a bit older than me) - hoh, boy.
When he had days off and I was working from home he came in telling me what´s on TV - hello... working!
He also brought me treats, though! Hope all works out great for you two!
Oh, love the art and lights!
After the ice-episode here: Stay home! Gosh, was I scared! Hugs and to warmer times
I highly recommend retirement. I have never regretted it, even for a nanosecond. I worked three days a week during my final year, but that was for the benefit of the company not for me. All the best - David
I'll keep my fingers crossed that you don't lose power, too! We're looking at some freezing weather with snow (not much), ice, sleet. That will cause chaos because these things are not handled well here. Your outing does look magical--it's been ages since I took a walk in the snow. Your art reminds me of our furry friend with his ball. We'll be going to care for him again very soon. I hope hubby enjoys semi-retirement--and you enjoy it too!
Hi Erika, guess what? We lost power for a couple of hours the other night, but our generator and fireplace kept us warm and cozy! I hope your power stays on, my friend!
Your art journal page is absolutely adorable! I love the pup with his new ball, and the Santa Claus too. Your background is stunning with all those different patterns and the zig-zag! It’s so beautiful!
And I absolutely loved seeing more views from your holiday light walk. It was definitely magical!!
I hope your husband enjoys his semi-retirement! Have a very Happy New Year, my friend! Sending you lots of hugs, Sharon
Lovely photographs here.
Good wishes for your husbands semi-retirement.
Happy Twixmas and Happy New Year too.
All the best Jan
I hope you did not lose power, but good hubby home to start generator if you did. Congrats to him for taking next step. It's nice he has those choices of what to do next. I know it's tough for responsible men (and women) with good jobs to leave them. Honey worked 11 more years after he could first retire. It has paid off big time as he ended up working until age 68 and at his highest pay too. Cool lights and nice doggie page, xoxo
