Hi everyone. I hope you are having a lovely weekend. It's gotten bitterly cold again in my area. I think even colder with wind chills than the cold weather we already had. 😨 So much for February being a bit warmer- ha ha. But I will say it was up around the freezing point last week which almost felt like a heat wave.
Today I am joining Nicole for her Sunday in the Art Room and also Gillena for her Sunday Smiles . Plus since I have some art journal pages to share, I'll be linking a up to Bleubeard's and Elizabeth's Anywhere, Any Place, Any Time with Anyone challenge at Art Journal Journey.
When I go away on a trip, I like to collect bits and pieces of things like brochures, napkins, postcards, feathers, postage stamps, stickers...you can get the gist I'm sure. When I come home I love reliving the trip and making a travel journal. I not only get to use those bits I picked up but lots of other supplies I already have.
My last trip was this past September when I visited Nova Scotia for the first time with my husband and our 2 dogs. This past week I finished my travel journal from that trip. Hurrah! I had 90% of it done before the holidays, but it was time to complete it. I thought today I would share a few spreads from it as it's the art I've been working on for the last couple of weeks.
Before I end this post I have to ask if anyone is going to watch the Superbowl? I know some of you are probably not interested in football at all, and some of you probably aren't happy your team didn't make it, and if you live outside of the US, perhaps you have never even seen or know anything about American football. I am excited to watch the game tonight because after a bad start to the football season, The New England Patriots shocked us all by making it to the big championship game. I think most of us feel that even if they lose, we didn't expect them to get this far this year, so just making the Superbowl is fantastic. (But I wouldn't put it past Drake Maye.)
The weird thing is the last time the Pats played the Sea Hawks in the Superbowl was 2015. Strangely enough that year my husband was in the hospital with both kidneys having failed (and this year it's his back). Plus that year we had a brutal winter just like this year. I know that because since the hubby was in the hospital I was home stuck shoveling out the snow... 😬 That year the Pats won in the last few moments of the game. I hope there's more than just coincidence, and that win happens again tonight. Go Pats!

It was minus 26 here yesterday morning when I got up. I haven’t checked yet this morning butI suspect it’s not much warmer. This really has been an old-fashioned winter. As for sports, I enjoyed playing them when I was young, but I have never been into watching them. Football baffles me. It takes almost three hours to play a one hour game. All the best - David
Here we always have dog poop bags attached at the garbage bins for dog owners..I don't understand American football. Hope your team wins today!
p.s For dry salt brined chicken, I do find them salty, but at normal range. I used coarse salt and left them just 8 hrs in the fridge. And of course, you need to brush all the salt off before roasting :-)
I love everything about your travel journal--the poop bags were especially amusing! I like the use of the 3-ring binder.
Have fun watching the game today. It used to be a big deal for us back in the day. We lived in NH in the 80s when it was the Bears and the Pats. I was rooting for the Bears and they romped--that was the year of the Super Bowl Shuffle song. Not sure I've watched one since. Now I have my daughter telling me about the Portland Trailblazers basketball team and Bill going off about the Red Sox. He listens to the games online. Anyway--hope you have a fun day!
...scented poop bags, now that's an idea. Stay warm and well.
Your travel collages are great! What a super way to commemorate and remember a trip! I love Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island too. It's been at least 10 years since the last time I was there.
Gorgeous journal you made! Are your hubby's kidneys ok now? -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
I always love your travel journals. They are so meaningful and I'm sure when you are doing them, you remember where every bit of memorabilia came from. I'll skip the superbowl, watch the ads on youtube, maybe. I'm sticking with Olympics and my Sunday night Brit line-up!
We had a rise in temperature this morning and something round and very bright in the sky.. I believe they call it the sun Haa haaa!!
The dog walk was a delight but now its back to darkness and drizzle boooo!! Loving your holiday junk journal, full of great bit & bobs, Im giggling about the scented poop bags because I actually use them.. biodigradible lavende, they make my waterproof jacket pockets smell very nice (obviously when the bags are unfilled :D)
Happy Sunday Hugs Tracey
P.S Good luck with the footie game xx
Erika! I'm amazed at how you collect bits and pieces of treasures from you travels then come home and create outstanding journals. True keepsakes. I'm happy to read that you found the perfect paper too. It takes a clever artist to create these journals and you are that artist. As for the game. Mr. M. and I used to watch the games but have just lost interest in them. I will be watching the puppy bowl though. LOL Thank you for sharing with SITAR and have lovely day.
Olá minha querida amiga Erika. Confesso que não entendo nada de futebol americano. Aproveito para desejar um excelente domingo e bom início de semana. Grande abraço do seu amigo do Brasil.
I enjoyed your trip journal. I had to laugh that the puppy poo bags are scented. I'm not interested in sports. While Himself watches the television in the living room, I'll be in the bedroom watching Bridgerton and an artsy movie a friend told me about.
Really cold here too-supposed to warm a bit Tuesday. I love your travel journal. It's got such interesting layers as well.
I don't watch football.
It's sunny and 70F here today.
Your travel journal is lovely, Erika, and a great memory of your trip. I buy stickers etc. on my travels as well, but they get into my "regular" journal. When my daughter was small, I used to make sketchbooks of our travels, but stopped doing that several years ago since I more often than not didn't have the time.
I will definitely not watch the Super Bowl today, I'm simply not interested. It's in the afternoon for us, and during that time the nursery has a 20%-off-everything sale for all non-watchers - I can't let that offer slip. I'd rather be with plants! Enjoy the game! Hugs - Carola
Warm wishes, Erika

Wow, another fabulous trip journal. You make awesome ones. We're not big football fans but the coincidences are noteworthy. I gather it would mean a lot for the Pats with their head coach and Brady gone. So, go Pats! xox
So much work has gone in to your travel journal Erika but what a lovely way to retain those special memories. With so many relying on photos on mobiles it so easy to store photos in a folder and lose touch with things.

Dear Erika,
And – did the Patriots win? I know I could look it up online, but I'd rather ask you 😉. I'm not really interested in football, but I think even where the sport isn't so popular, you can't escape it – there are so many movies where football is a theme, even if only peripherally... I generally don't watch sports broadcasts. My husband is different – he's currently very interested in the Winter Olympics.
Your vacation diary looks like a wonderful, very creative, and personal collection of memories – with a definite focus on furry friends 🤩.
Hugs from Austria, Traude
Erika, your travel journals are always so interesting and creative. I do not make any from our travels, but recently have started doing online photo books. Like yourself, I include bits from our trips which I take photos off and upload, like postcards, menus, brochures etc. After the book is done, I usually discard some of the items and send the postcards to friends.
My husband watched the Super Bowl and I was in another room watching a Rob Reiner film, The American President.
I don't watch the super bowl although it has a huge worldwide following.
I do like your art journals.
Hope the new week will be a good one for you - here in the UK it's started very wet again!
All the best Jan
That's a great travel journal and I love how you put them together. Very clever how you add all those interesting items and info about the lobster for instance. I didn't watch the Super Bowl only because we don't have mainstream TV anymore and we would have had to pay to watch. Neither of us are into football much. So sorry about your husband's health issues and I hope his back is okay now.
It's wonderful that you found the perfect journal for you. I agree they're so rare, and I too have just bound my own so far. (Not complaining since I like the process anyway.) Love all the eclectic stuff on your travel journal--it's such a lovely memento. Anita xx
Love your holiday journal. I never ever manage to finish one. Great idea for Elizabeths theme. Hugs Wendy
