Last of the Ocean Journal

Hi everyone.  Friday and the workweek is almost over and another weekend is almost here.
Smile.

Do you remember the journal I was working on this past summer with an ocean theme?  It had fold out pages and being summer, I was thinking about fun by the sea.  

Or in this case, fun in the water.

This last spread  is a fantasy page about mermaids.

And seashells along with polka dots too.
And since polka-dots fit my challenge this month at Art Journal Journey, I am linking this spread up.

My favorite part is the waves. I made then by painting on acetate and then cutting them out. I like the effect the created and think I am going to use that little find again.
You' also might not be able to tell, but the  mermaid here on the above right hand side is made from paper clay in mold. I then painted and colored her in.
Autumn feels like it is here in my world (even though yesterday we had some summer warmth), so my urge to be a mermaid is put back into the bottle until next summer.

Wednesday Art

Hi everyone. Today it is time to share a bit of summer art with you. These are pages that I didn't forget about but just never posted.

I'll start with this ocean page above. The windows on the building look like a child drew them, but I really really like how the rocks came out. The water perspective is a bit different too, but I like the striped color effect. So the picture works from the rocks down, but from there up, well it needs a bit of work.

 I could go back and fix it I guess, and maybe someday I will. But right now it was a good learning experience.

And how about some strawberries?

The background is painted and then some painted stencil, and I played with paints to make the berries. It was a good lesson to play with shadows.

We have a warm front moving in and could get a lot of heavy rain tonight. Hopefully if we get this rain, the driveway work we just had done last Friday will hold up. Keep your crossed for me.

The End of July

Hi everyone.
I can't believe it's already the last day of  July. It is always a little bittersweet to start August since that brings the start of school, although not for a couple of weeks. It's not the start of school; it the fact that summer just goes by way too fast.

So let's end the month with one last page for Chris' challenge "We Are All Going" over at Art Journal Journey

Today we are all going to the sea.

This is a page from my fold out ocean journal. Each fold out has 4 sections, and so I am showing you the 4 sections of the page in these 2 photos. I've numberred them to maybe make it make more sense.

I began my page by cutting up some beach paper I had. They are all in an 8x8 paper set from Graphic 45.  I used the pieces to collage my background. Then I added some vintage beach photos from a  collage sheet  as well as some mermaids in bottles from another collage sheet. Finally I used mermaid, jellyfish and dolphin stamps to finish off my spread.

And I had a nice ending to my month because I received some happy mail yesterday from Mia. I  wanted to share it with you.
There's also a little ink pad which I forgot to take out of the box when I snapped the photo.

BIG thanks Mia. It was so much fun to get a package from Greece- a new experience for me!

Splatters and Splotches

Hello there everyone. Time for a new challenge at Try It On Tuesday Already!

Thanks to those of you who joined us at Colours of the Rainbow. 

Now are you ready to use Splatters and Splotches?

I am working on an ocean book. The cool thing about this book is that is has these 4 part fold out pages. You can see that in my photos above.

But it is hard to see the splatters and splotches. So let me show you some close ups.

I used some Fred Mullet fish stamps I've had for years to make these fish. They are added to the background which is made by squirting paint and then making splotches with those paint blobs.

 I used the side of some pipe insulation to flatten out out the splotches.

 They I sprayed some liquid black ink and splattered some watered down white paint on the background.

Lazy Sunday Morning

Hi everyone. The heat is here and it is making life a slow moving  Sunday morning. I've watched quite a few movies in the last couple of days and also lounged in the lake at my mother-in-laws, which felt good but wasn't even all that cool once you climbed out of the water. (And then had to reslather yourself with sunscreen, and then 20 minutes later you're back in because it is hot in the afternoon sun. Smile)  But I will admit, it was still better than not, and the dogs had  many nice swims too. (Making them clean and fluffy today.) Nothing is better than clean and fluffy dogs. (Just like clean sheets on a bed)

So back in the spring I found these cool journals on sale. They don't have tons of pages, but the pages they do have open up, as I shall show you.

 I've been working on one of the 2 I bought. I'm making a theme journal with one of my favorite art topics.

The Ocean!

 I painted the background and used a lot of collage items and stickers to make my spread. I picked up a vintage ocean collage image set off of Etsy back in the spring also (Scrappybird seller) which was only $5.00 for 60 images which I used a few on this spread. I also used a few stickers and images from my stash, including the quote, as well as a bit of scrap tissue paper also.
