T Stands for a Sweet Treat

Hello some of my favorite ladies. Tuesday is here again.
I wasn't sure if I should take you back to Japan for T Day this week, or maybe share something more recent.
So then I thought, how about show both? :) How about a little sweet ice cream treat? It's that time of year when something cool tastes good.  (That is, if ice cream is your thing.)
One afternoon while in Nichinan, Japan, our van that was shuttling us around turned onto a narrow dirt road that was just a little side road with houses on it. Then we pulled into what was much like a driveway, parked in front of the garage and walked back to this house.
There was nothing making it stand out as anything other than a house. But when we walked inside we found it was a little fruit and ice cream shop with maybe 4 tables. What they served were amazing fruit and ice cream creations. Truly food art.
I had one of the strawberry creations. I think 4 of us this one of these strawberry creations.
I had never seen pink strawberries before. Not pink because they aren't ripe, but fully ripe pink berries.
You can see my drink was some water.
One person had the melon creation. Not quite as pretty as the strawberry one, but it still looks good.
And one of group didn't eat fruit, so he just had a bowl with some ice cream. And a cup of coffee. Delicious, but not as amazing as the fruit art.
And this past Saturday night the hubby and I went to see the new Star Wars film (Solo), and just before the theater we passed one of those open only in the summer food places. Sawyer's Dairy Bar originally opened 73 years ago in 1945, and I don't think it had drastically changed since then either. I love the fact we still have a few of these vintage places so you pretend to go back in time and live some old fashioned moments.
Sawyer's sign even spins around .
And they make their own home made ice cream which is delicious.
I had a small mocha frappe (pronounced frap) with coffee ice cream and chocolate syrup. Just the right amount, the size of a coffee cup, and the big wide straw to get the ice cream chunks up through.
In lots of places a frappe is called  milkshake.  But here in New England a milkshake is just milk and flavoring, and if you add ice cream you get a frappe. Here's an article in Yankee Magazine you can read about our unusual New England naming of this dessert  if you desire: The Difference Between a Milkshake and a Frappe.
I am linking up my T Day post over at Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog. If you have a drink related post you should join in too.
Have a great T Day!
And I always appreciate you stopping by myblog.

Hello Erika, I am wanting some ice cream now after seeing these delicious photos. The food art was really a fun way to serve fruit and ice cream. The pink berries I was not familiar with either.
I love that you have vintage restaurants nearby-those would be allot of fun to visit.
and I did not know that about milk shakes and frappe-I will check out that link nest-thanks
Happy T Day Hugs Kathy

I was truly impressed with this incredible post from Japan. The mundane looking house went from blah to majestic in a single photo. The ice cream treat looked out of this world. Such beautiful strawberries, even though I'm usually not a fan of strawberries. These are pure art in a glass.

Just like I called iceberg lettuce, head lettuce, you call a milkshake a frappe. We distinguish milkshakes from malts when malt powder is added to the milk/ice cream mix. It's like you live in a whole different country (grin). Thanks so much for sharing these beauties with us for T this Tuesday, dear Erika.

that Cup of strawberry ice cream would be super for this hot day here! i love strawberries, and actually my first thought was: how can they offer immature fruit? i never heard of pink ones before... but if they taste good, this is an interesting variety.
happy t-day ♥

Well if it wasn't for the fact that weather today is about 12 degrees lower than Sunday (16c here at present) I would be raiding the freezer right now for ice-cream :) Thanks for explaining about Frappe.
Hope you enjoyed the film as well.
Happy Tuesday.... Gill xx

the strawberry ice cream dessert looks amazing. The melon dessert looks refreshing, but not with coffee as a chaser. Can't beat a frappe. I haven't had one in a long time. Usually, I'm too full to get one or won't eat my meal. Looks like a beautiful weather day, today. Enjoy! One day day less until school lets out for the Summer! Happy T Day!

I had trouble getting past "didn't eat fruit"! It makes me want to convert them to the summertime joys ;) That all looks so pretty! The coffee ice cream and chocolate syrup sounds like something I'd like, too, especially with home-made ice cream. What a treat! I haven't seen the new SW movie, but I'm hearing good things. Happy T Tuesday!

Wow, so glad you chose to share both Japan and home today! Those strawberry ice creams are truely a work of art and I've never seen pink strawberries either - so yummy 😁. I love frappes too, my choice is always chocolate with whipped cream on top ...lol 😉. Here in the UK ours are made with ice rather than ice-cream though. Wishing you a very Happy T Day! J 😊 x

Wow I didn't expect to see such delicious ice cream creations being served from that small house, they look yummy. I know this sounds odd but I cannot eat ice cream with any additives and a lot of products include them, but I think I may have been tempted to try a small ice there.
Your shake drink sounds good as well.
Happy T day wishes.

The Ice cream creations look amazing, but mine would have to be strawberry.
It was interesting to read the difference between a milkshake and a frappe.

I love the old-style ice cream places...but what a wonderfully mysterious introduction to fabulous ice cream in Japan! Thanks so much for sharing your photos💜

Fantastic! I love all this amazing fruit cups - simply delicious looking and the littl ehouse - cutest ice crem parlor! And the vintage place also is somthing to make one happy, isn't it?!
You inspired me to make myself a curd cheese ice with artifical sweetener .
The pot of the ice machine is already in the freezer. I just made one youghurt icecraem last week for me - I do it since I want to have icecream with no other ingredients as I put in.
And with low calories. But for my family I have to buy the normal sweet icecreams and popsicles with chocolate coating and such .... no - not for me..
but such a japanese fruit -wonder- cup I had taken with pleasure!
HAPPY Tuesday on Wednesday morning dear Erika!
Happy Day!

Since we just enjoyed ice cream sundaes this week at a local Nashua creamery, Haywards, I was interested to read about your local place, Sawyers, and maybe one day we will try it as well. The Japanese treats looked nice enough but needed more ice cream for my personal taste.

In Mexico people say you never know what's behind the walls. Some of the plainest looking exterior walls open onto grand haciendas. Good thing you had a driver to take you to the little ice cream house. Boy those sundaes looks wonderful. That would taste so good right now. It's 82 F in my office.

Belated Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen

Oh what a surprise in Japan to be taken to an ice-cream house. Lovely to see the strawberry and pineapple art.
And then to see your own country ice-cream as a contrast.
Have a great week ahead.
