In the Garden

Hi everyone. We're already at the middle of the week, and hopefully the very hot and humid weather that's been in my area will break today as predicted. It has been just a bit too oppressive for me.

Today I am going to share a vintage style collaged journal spread that is an ode to gardening.

I used several types of materials to make my pages. The square with the pinking sheared edges on the bottom right is some cloth. There is a vintage photo above it, as well as some various forms of paper. On the left side of my page, besides using some various printed images, I used the back of an old playing card with the peas on it and also a rather vintage looking green watch face. It went with the rest of the spread I thought.

On both sides I added some green plastic gemstones. These are the kind that come in already sticky strips. I finished my page with both a stamped quote from Alison Bomber at Paper Artsy as well as some crochet style cloth items. On the left are 3 small crochet style flowers and on the right is a butterfly. They were very white but I darken them with some paint. I also added some gold plastic gemstones. These are the kind with no stickies on the back so I glued them down.

For some reason I could get the page to lay flatter before I stamped the quote. I also digitally lightened it up a bit more.

And here's some close ups.

I am linking up to 2 different challenges.

First of all I am linking up to this month's Creative Artiste Mix Media Challenge blog, challenge #72.

I am also linking up to Mia's butterfly challenge at Art Journal Journey.

Wishing everyone a wonderful middle of your week!
Thanks for visiting.

Love your page, also your book lists, I too love cookbooks and King Arthur. I am going to have to check out the Milk Street one. I am on the fence about buying the new King Arthur. I love the old one and their flours/recipes. I ordered the jammy bits from them. They work great in scones!
I love Monty Don, so that’s going on my list.
Beautiful pictures of bedrock gardens. I must make a trek there.
Good luck with the bees!

This a a wonderful journal spread, I enjoyed liking at all the different images. You have spent a lot of time in your garden lately, so this is very appropriate. The weather is not and sticky here today, too. Have a fun day, say hello to the bees for me! Hugs, Valerie

Pretty spread. I like the vintage dress patterns. I don't get dressed up to work in the garden like those ladies. The gems also make the pages stand out. Cool is on the way. Stay safe during the storms today.

We're still in the midst of steady -but not heavy- rain. Next week they're predicting sunshine, and I'll be ready :)

I love the pinked edges.

yes, it is HOT aside and gardening in your journals is sure a lot cooler than doing it outside, Erika. But the downside is that you can't enjoy the veggies as much!

Love your work. Oh, but... it can never ever get too hot for me! I hope you have a nice, cool day. Just grab an ice-tea? Ice-cream? Cooled melon?
Here it will get but warm, not hot...

Wouldn't it be nice to get a dress pattern for 15 cents? And wouldn't you LOVE to (NOT) dress like that to garden? I love the reference to sowing and seeding and the used seed packets. This is a fabulous entry for Mia's theme at Art Journal Journey and that crocheted butterfly is the BEST!!!

Love your ode to gardening spread with those pea pops of green, adore the old gardening pic and vintage garden wear what a great finds they were. A journal that doesn't stay flat is a sign that your journal is bursting with inspiration.
Thank you for sharing with us @ Creative Artiste, marvellous mixed media creation. Hugs Tracey xx
