T Stands for the Last of my Quebec Trip

Hi everyone. Happy Monday and Happy December to everyone too.  We have a dusting of frozen snow that fell last Thursday and hasn't melted. It sounds like we could get more later this week, but not a lot. It is December, isn't it? It seems like we get into December and autumn  is definitely over. Our nights have been cold; this morning it was only 19 degrees F (-7 degrees C). And with the holiday decorations going up makes it feels even more like we are definitely getting into winter. (Even though I know some of you had winter weather before we did and some of you haven't had any yet.)

Today for T Day over at Bleuebard's and Elizabeth's blog I want to wrap up my trip photos from my giant September  road trip to the Gaspe Penninsula in Quebec.  Today post doesn't have any photos of Canada in it but instead has some photos from Vermont and New Hampshire. And since these photos are from September, there's no snow and it's still autumn!

You might remember last Monday how I mentioned we spent our last  night away in northern Vermont, just a few minutes drive from the international border between the US and Canada. We decided that would be a good spot to break up the drive since that meant we only had about 2 1/2-3 hours left to drive home on Monday, and that meant we could get home relatively early in the day.

I had read about some new rules with paperwork that needed to be had when traveling with dogs over the border, none of which were even requested of us when we were stopped. I think the border agent was a dog person, and when he asked us to open our back window, Maddie stuck her head out. This was followed by Pete doing the same thing, and it was obvious the agent was trying hard to suppress a smile. That worked fine  as it meant it didn't take us much time to cross back into the US.

That night we stayed in this very cute little cabin in Derby Line, Vermont. And yes, it was little. but it actually worked out great as it had a king-sized bed that was very comfy.

The only heat was this electric fireplace which we ran all night, and we were quite warm.

I don't know if I would want to stay here for more than a night as there wasn't much of a kitchen or any comfy chairs other than the bed, but it did have an old claw foot tube in the bathroom.

My husband did a search on his phone for a good place for breakfast, and he found a really excellent place called The Brown Cow in Newport that was just about a 5 minute drive from the cabin.

For my breakfast I had a cup of hot tea (my ticket to T) and

the daily special which was pumpkin bread French toast as well as maple sausage. It also came with real maple syrup. Yum.

After breakfast we headed south into the fog.

We were back to sunshine and blue skies by the time we crossed the state border. (And yup, the sign in this next photo is lousy.)

That meant we could enjoy the White Mountains on our drive south.

Then we were home. It was great to be home in the early afternoon so the car could get unpacked int he daylight, and I could even start some laundry. Well I don't know if it was great to be home to start laundry, but it was nice to not have all of it waiting for me the next day. 😏

According to the odometer we traveled 1,723.6 miles (2772.8 km), but I should mention we forgot to set the trip mileage until we were in Sanford, Maine which is about 25 miles/ 30 minutes from the house.

I hope I haven't bored anyone too much with my travels. Next week for T, my post will be back to every day reality. Have a super T day and week ahead everyone.

I know what you mean about a cabin being cute for a night -- but not more! Your views coming home were gorgeous with wonderful color kicking in. And I'm glad there was no hassle at the border with the dogs!

Hi Erika. I love the cabin you slept in! And the French toast looks very delicious! Glad you enjoyed your trip so much. Have a great week, hugs, Valerie

I think the cabin is perfect for one night - no loud neighbors like you could have in a hotel. Your husband did what we usually do on a trip - look for a good breakfast place online. We seldom were disappointed. Your breakfast looks great (even though I am not into sweet breakfasts). I can just picture how your dogs put their noses out the window, no wonder the border agent didn't want to see any paperwork. The fall colors are superb, how lovely to come back to something like that. Have a great week, Erika, and happy T day. Hugs - Carola

Since I am not able to get out and travel I enjoy your travel posts very much. Gorgeous scenery on your way home-and what an awesome little cabin to spend the night-so much nicer than a hotel or motel I think. your breakfast sounded really delicious.
Have a good rest of your week hugs Kathy

I liked the story of the dogs poking their head out the window. The cabin is adorable, but yeah, one day/night. The Brown Cow looks like a great breakfast spot. Nice pics of the mountains too. We're supposed to get a little bit of snow Wed. night into Thurs. You, too? Happy T Day

I loved seeing photos from your trip, so you certainly didn't bore me.
Yes, that cute cabin would have been cold with those uninsulated walls but the bed looks very comfy indeed. Wow, that fog!!
Your breakfast looks quite calorific. I love French toast but I never have it for that reason. Yours had whipped cream on it too!
Lovely mountain scenes and colours in your home state.
Happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca

I have enjoyed traveling with you. I am so in awe of your mountains and landscape. It is so flat here, if you stand in a tall building, you can actually see the declination of the earth.

That was a tiny place you stayed your last night. The good news was you found the Brown Cow and it sounds like a fabulous breakfast and hot tea. Thanks for sharing your amazing photos and meal with us for T this Tuesday.

BTW, did you get my e-mail?
