Hi everyone. Happy 2026 to you! 🎊⌛⏳
My New Year's Eve was very low key, and the new year will start that way also. How about you? Any big plans for the start of the new year.?
I'm here to start a new year at Art Journal Journey. Again, thank you Sharon for hosting last month. You rocked it! And thank you everyone who joined in also. Winter was a great way to wrap up the year, and might even be a great way to continue into 2026 from the way the weather has been going. Or maybe for some of you, a warm and sunny beach would be better.
It's a new month so time for a new host, and for January, I am hosting. I've chosen a theme of "What's Up?" Let me explain what I mean by that.
I picked the phrase "What's up?" because it can be addressed in many ways. You can take the phrase literally and make a page about something that is up. It could be something in the sky, or even something up high like an item on a shelf or a skyscraper. I'm sure you can think of many things that are up.
OR, since some people like more of an open ended theme, you can make a page as though you were answering someone asking you "What's up?" . If you aren't familiar with that phrase, "What's up?" can be interpreted to be what's going on with you, what is happening in your life, what's happening around you, or even how you are.
I'm excited to see how you interpret the theme and to see "What's Up?" with you. And just to clarify, you don't need to use both interpretations of the theme in your journaling.
"What's Up?" with me. Well I am, like everyone is, welcoming in the new year, so that is the theme of my first page. I did include some fireworks on my page because that's an example of something being up in the sky.

A very beautiful welcome to 2026,
I hope it is as bright as your page!!
A very Happy New Year to you and your family. A great page and theme for this month, I will endeavour to fit it in with our Thursday journal. Hugs Wendy.
I cannot.. oh, well first off: A Happy 2026 to you, dear Erika.
What´s up - I am not in prison. I´m just sneezing and coughing and yesterday the neighbors went BOOM non-stop with fireworks (and as I write some start again, I could... end in prison after all!). "Time to reflect" sounds much better and when I do... 2025 was a challenge but all in all a good year. Hugs and to more blogging!
Because... "Time... waits for nobody", as Freddie Mercury lets us know...
We did what we always do and went for a 3-hr-walk :-)) Staying healthy and fit is the plan! I love this simple yet so elegant page to kick start 2026, Erika.
...Erika, may you be warm, well and merry in 2026.
A Happy 2026 to you, dear Erika!
An interesting topic, and I hope you have a good time this month.
hugs Elke
What a fabulous way to begin 2026. I love how the "fireworks" stencil
was used. In fact, fireworks are going off right now as I write this.
I am truly impressed with how you used clocks in your art, too. This is
a fabulous first entry using your theme at AJJ. Bleubeard and Elizabeth
You're off to a great start. Have a Happy and Creative New Year
Enjoy the new theme!
Erika, you have inspired me with all that you do during the year. I wish you and your family the very best for 2026.
Happy New Year to you as well and what a super piece of artwork to start off with.

What a fabulous way to start our the new year Erika! I love your theme and the idea behind it in your page! The fireworks are brilliant and I love all of the collage of clocks at the bottom too! Very creative and a fun way to bring in 2026! Wishing you all of the best in happiness and health for the coming year my friend!
Mine was VERY low key. we celebrate Brit style, watching the fireworks from London on CNN, enjoying appetizers, then the Marx Brothers! Not sorry to see 2025 leave! Happy New Year!

Hi Erika! I love the pop of pink. Wishing you a fun and creative-filled New Year. Cheers, Ivy.
Happy new year, Erika! I think you've chosen a great theme for your hosting gig. We rang out the old year and welcomed the new one in a very low key way, too. At about 5 past midnight, I said, 'Happy New Year!' to Bill. He said it back. We went on with what we were doing :-) We're off to care for our friend's dog next week, so we'll be away from home for most of January.
I had a low key New Year's celebration too, but was blessed to be surrounded by family. I love the feeling of excitement in your art journal page. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year, Erika! Great art journaling for this, love the stenciling. xoxo
A great way to start the year Erika, wishing you and yours also good health, happiness, family, friends and yes of course creativity a plenty xx Take care Tracey x
Hi Erika! I absolutely love your theme for this month! It’s the perfect fit for January and the start of a new year. My sister and I are planning a day trip to Longwood Gardens today - we’re staying overnight so we can enjoy their Christmas decorations, which they take down after the first week of January. Your "Welcome 2026" art journal page is simply stunning! The pink bow and “time to reflect” sentiment are my favorites. Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and for all your support of my December Winter theme! Happy New Year! Hugs, Sharon
What a lovely page, Erika! Thank you for hosting January's challenge at AJJ. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
