Daisies in the Field

 Hi everyone. Happy July!

With the new month arriving means today we start a new challenge at Art Journal Journey.  Thanks to Mia and everyone who joined us last month with beautiful butterflies.

This month we'd like to welcome Alison, who you might also know as Butterfly from Words and Pictures blog.  It's Alison's first time hosting at Art Journal Journey also. We're glad to have you as host.

Her challenge pick for July  is Summer Countryside.

Here's my first summer countryside view.

I stopped at a local craft store awhile back because I needed some  glue. Of course I walked around and browsed a bit which can be a dangerous thing for my wallet if I find lots of markdowns. Smile. (Luckily not that day!) However, I saw this cow stamp,  and I just fell in love this lady.  Also luckily stamps happened to be on sale at 40% off that day too. She was actually cheaper than buying the glue I needed. Now she is a part of my too big stamp collection, but I love how she works on this page.

I started my page by using watercolor paints to make the sky. I actually painted the entire page.  Once dry I added the 2 acetate leafy stickers because I thought this page was going to go in a different direction. They still work, but I didn't really need them once I got going with the page. That seems to happen  every now and again because pages often take on a life of their once you get started.

I stamped the cow on a separate sheet of paper. She was colored and fussy cut her before adding her between the stickers.

I painted the grass with various shades of green acrylic paint. Once dry I used some Stabilo water based pencils to add some details. Then I decided to paint in the daisies to match the one in the sweet cow's mouth.

I also painted in the clouds and used a black Stabilo pencil around the clouds for some depth.

I drew and hand cut the fence  pieces from white paper, and then I added some TH quotes.

This is such a bucolic countryside view to me.

We hope to see you and your Summer Countryside art journal pages at Art Journal Journey this month. Remember both paper, cloth, canvas and digital pages  (etc.) are accepted, but not cards, dimensional art, tags not on a journal page, and other forms of form.

Happy new month to you. And to my Canadian friends, Happy Canada Day to you.

Oh, I love this cow. What a beauty. I agree that pages often have a mind of their own. It's hard to explain until it happens to you the first time. This is a genuinely beautiful first entry, Erika and worthy of very unique inspiration. Thanks for sharing this using Alison's theme at Art Journal Journey.

Yes, that cow is just perfect and you have used her so cleverly. She looks very at home on your page as she munches the flowers by the picket fence.
I am not surprised you had to have her and what a lovely surprise for you when she was 40% off. Not often you get a stamp cheaper than glue.

I couldn't have left that cow image in the shop either, it is a fabulous image and perfect for your countryside page, a wonderful summer scene that brings a smile when looking at her eating the daisies.

Erika, thank you so much for your suggestion as to how i can make my blog post today fit in with the theme at AJJ. I have now tweaked one or two bits of the journal story and posted it.
Thanks once more, it was so good of you

Erika, if this scene doesn’t scream summer, then nothing will. Your happy cow in its heavenly green pasture of abundant grass and tasty daisies makes me smile big. How I know a page can turn direction on you at any time. There’s been some fun art with cows in the retail world and your page follows that trend. It’s just too hard not to smile when you see these seemingly boring cows depicted in such a way as you have done. There’s mega cow personality coming off your journal page!
