Guest Designer at Creative Artiste Mixed Media

Hi everyone. Happy Friday.

I'm honored today to announce that I am July's guest designer at Creative Artiste Mixed Media challenge blog. This month is challenge #73. Thank you ladies for having me.

For those of you who don't know me:
I'm Erika from New Hampshire in the US. I love playing with various art supplies, and I especially love to art journal. It's always exciting to see what happens when I combine those various supplies. It is also fun to see the story the page ends up telling. The changes as the page evolves and are created are often so unexpected.

This month's  challenge, as is every challenge at Creative Artiste Mixed Media is anything goes as along as you use various types of media on the your project.

As it is summer, I was inspired by the ocean and water. I thought I would make something fun.

I used a mop up page and stamped the words along one side. Then I added some scraps of wavy cardboard that I inked with some blue.

The fish, starfish, and mermaid are stamps by Craft Emotions that I stamped on white paper. They were then colored and fussy cut.  After attaching them to my background, the fish and seastars got some googly eyes. The mermaid had some glitter glue added to her tail.

I free hand cut the tall seaweed out of some heavy duty cardstock, before outlining it with a pen.

With those big eyes, the mermaid really looked surprised that anyone should see her, so I decided there needed to be a reason for her expression. I stamped the submarine (Hero Arts) and colored and fussy it out also. I doodled in the face in the sub's window, as the driver of the submarine is as shocked to see Ms Mermaid as she is to see him. I doodled in the control panel in the front of the sub also,  and I added some clear glue to the sub's window areas as well as on the mermaid eyes.

Finally I stamped and added the quote.

Thanks for visiting my page, and I'm excited to see all your mixed media creations at Creative Artiste Mixed Media Challenge blog.

Thanks for visiting my blog.

It's so lovely to see you as Guest Designer this month Erika @ Creative Artiste. What a grand addition that wavy card is, those googly eyed fish are swimming very happily amongst it. Love the play on words throughout your page and that extra attention to detail that I love exploring within mixed media.
Fabulous under the sea creation.. thanks for sharing July with us, it's a real pleasure to have you.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend Hugs Tracey xx

Love those googly eyes, Erika - haha! But I really love that word background - it's amazing and so useful. The shades you've used are so nautical and reminiscent of summer. Great page.

Erika, this is such a fun art page to see and read about. I just love your great underwater world of life. The cardboard waves are so clever an idea. The fish with google eyes is a perfect detail to bring them to life. You came up with a fun way to explain the cute mermaid’s surprised expression as well as the guy in the submarine.
I haven’t been able to link my mixed media page to the challenge. I can’t figure out where I am going wrong. Hopefully someone will be able to help me out with that.
